Looking forward to this weekend...

I made a road trip to Walmart today to pick up my 16 year old dog's heart meds, and decided to buy a few groceries while I was there.

The oppressive heat is back with a vengeance, 100+ degree temps, so I plan to just relax and stay cool in my own home. Our little town does host a nice fireworks display every year, but it's a nut house finding somewhere to park close by, and the traffic is terrible afterwards!

My house sits up high on a hill, and the fireworks will be about 10 blocks south of me, so if I take a hankering to watch the fireworks, I'll just chill on the lawnchair in the back yard with my dogs!

I grabbed a package of brats while I was shopping. I LOVE brats, but never fix them because my 21 year old thinks they are gross. Well guess what? She's going to be gone camping all night tomorrow, and I am going to treat myself to brats for the 4th!

I'm also going to pick up some fresh strawberries for strawberry shortcake, and who knows what else? I'll even get the little individual sponge cakes so each dog can have some too!

I just don't think life can get much better than this. I have a new job in a field I am completing my degree for. I want to cry every morning when I walk down the hall to clock in. I am so blessed!

There is no longer any insanity or chaos in my home. I don't take a front seat to anyone's addictions or alcoholism anymore...not a spouse, not a child, not a friend. God willing and the creek don't rise, I will celebrate 19 years clean/sober this coming August.

My home is my safe place, my haven. I'm surrounded by a zoo crew of unconditional love. I have so many wonderful friends in recovery, both online and IRL. I really am blessed beyond my wildest dreams.

Same here, Freedom. I can watch the fireworks from my driveway and intend to do just that. Got myself a new book at Barnes & Noble yesterday and I have plenty of time to relax and read. The only drama in my home now is the occasional movie on television.

I plan to pick up a Fourth of July little vanilla party cake (just enough for me and a nibble for the each of the pups) for a way-off-the-diet treat. I just love cake!!

Life sounds sweet! Enjoy the brats and the peace and quiet (fireworks excluded)!!
I'll be thinking of you relaxing in the lawn chair. It is sure to make me smile.

That is wonderful! BTW I love the term "zoo crew." I have a few animals here as well. LOL

Freedom, sounds like a marvelous Fourth, although those brats make me kinda nervous.

We have fireworks here tonight and tomorrow night. Two casinos at opposite ends of town take turns setting off displays. I'm going to tonight's display and will probably go tomorrow night as well.

It's currently a cool and balmy 107 degrees here ... but we have a "cooling" wind coming up out of the south over the desert.

Lots of water for me; I think I'll pass on those brats!

Thank you for the beautiful visual image of you and your peaceful life!

This is my first alcohol-free 4th in over 22 years!! That in itself is a cause for fireworks!

Freedom,

You are inspiring. What a fun day you have planned.

Without being condescending at all, I am really proud of your accomplishments. I too am working on getting to where you are and reading about all that you have been through helps me believe that I too can move ahead and be happy. Thank you.

I am going hiking by myself and bringing along a picnic. The resort down the street has an awesome fireworks display, so I will walk down a watch those this evening.

Miss
