First time to Al-anon
Hello. I'm new to this. I made my first post to the newbies board last night.
I am very much in love and living with someone who's drinking is worrisome to me.
We're both mature adults. (I was widowed after 25 years of marriage)
I've spoken to him about how his drinking frightens me but he doesn't see it as a problem.
I know I can't change him but I can chance how I deal with things.
Ok - I admit it - at times I've had my head stuck in the sand where his drinking is concerned. But that doesn't change how I feel about him otherwise.
I do know his kids prefer to not see him because of his drinking - especially his son who belongs to AA. I totally understand that for his own preservation that he needs to keep his distance.
So, where do I go from here and how do I manage *ME*?

Where do you start? There are powerposts at the top of both anon forums plus a reading list. Thise are books that we have all gotten alot out of...not required reading at all.
Melody Beattie is an author we tend to refer to alot.
Find a local meeting and attend...you will find lot of ladies just like you.
And...let us know how you are. I find that this message board helps alot to keep me centered.
Good luck to you!

If you dig in and get a sponsor and then work the 12 steps you will find the power you need to deal with how his drinking effects you.
Everything else is secondary to the change you will experience through working the twelve steps.
They are the heart of the program of Al-Anon. They are the most powerful tool that I know of to change my behavior and thinking, and to move to a place to be of true service and truly love others.
Anything else won't really deal with the problem.
Blessed Be
