That's very much like my AXGF was when I first met her 12 years ago. She was doing very well in her job that involved lots of socialising, holding everything together and basically just appearing like a fun-loving girl. She was very good at appearances.

Since then, her alcoholism has progressed as these things do. She's not held down a job for more than a few months at a time in five years, she's been in hospital numerous times, done detoxes and rehab, still bouncing from drunk to sober, still drifting in and out of our childrens' lives, still living the life of drama and chaos... It took her 10 years to go from "high-functioning" to "low-functioning". And I think, despite everything that's happened to her, she has no real desire to stop for good; she just wants to find the magic path back to high-functioning again. It's really sad to see.
