Major Financial Situation - Need Advice

My XAH just informed me that he got laid off so...POOF! There goes the child support. I have already informed my work to open my work availability and have filled out forms for food stamps, medical coverage for the kids and myself and am sending them in tomorrow.

He admitted somewhat that his personality may have contributed to him getting laid off as opposed to another person in his department who knows less than him but gets along with people. Wow, an XA with a personality problem? Whood a thunk it?

Anyway, I would appreciate any advice or support you could give me on maybe what I should do next...or just hugs....prayers....whatever you think can help. I really have made very few friends since the divorce and my family lives very far away and can't really help me. You guys here are pretty much the only support I have in this world (at the risk of sounding really pathetic).

Thanks in advance.

Oh no!
Did he say anything about what he intends to do to keep up the payments? The obligation doesn't end because he got canned, what's his unemployment benefit look like? Every little bit helps if that can be garnished.
It sounds like you are taking a very go-to attitude in notifying your work, and filling out all the forms.
I don't have any advice on what more you can do other than to notify the court you have a support order through so they can grab any government assistance he receives because of this.

Hang in there!!

My friend is collecting unemployment, and they are garnishing the check for his full CS amount. If he is collecting, you should still be able to receive your support.

Called Enforcement Unit

....and they said any unemployment he received would be garnished based on a percentage. In my state, that is 28% of whatever he makes - so if what he makes goes down, what I get goes down. I won't get what I was getting before unless he gets another job that makes that much.

I just wish I had someone here I could count on when I get into trouble. I handle everything myself - dr. appts, school functions, church, laundry. I am trying not to whine but dammit, when is it my turn? I am more than tired of it all - I am weary. The world gets heavier by the day and it is so hard sometimes to just keep plodding on.

Thanks for listening.

DM.. I can't offer any practical advice but I can tell you that you are in my thoughts and send you some hugs. :ghug

Oh and one thing I can say is.. you may not think you have a support network but you may be surprised if you just reach out and tell people what is happening with you. There are some real angels in disguise right where you least expect them sometimes.

Check into this, hon:
Angelfood Ministries

You can get so much good food for a variety of prices ($18-$35).

I'll see if I can find any other resources for you tomorrow. I've got assignments due in a couple of classes and have been procrastinating all day!

Welcome to the SR family DM!

I'm sorry you are struggling and feeling overwhelmed. You are doing a great job of covering your bases to get your needs and your childrens need met!

Hugs to you!

Contact your local churches. Many have programs to help folks in your situation.
