Off Sickofthiscycle's post
I was reading her thread and found it very familiar. I had to chuckle as just yesterday my exah was quacking about his life and I stupidly engaged. This is what he said that made me laugh:
EXah: If you wouldn't have kicked me out, we could have worked this out somehow.
Me: How would we have worked this out with your drinking out of control.... and your mistress....? Can't work on a marriage with those factors.
Exah: Well, YOU could have helped me!
OMG, I had to laugh. I was supposed to help him with his drinking and his mistress?

It is of no wonder at all that many of us go along blaming ourselves for not doing enough, or not doing the right thing, or just doing too much to save a relationship. With the reinforcement we receive from the alcoholics in our lives, it's amazing we can see it any other way.
I find myself laughing out loud sometimes (though I try to leave the room first) when my ABF begins to quack. It is far better than the crying I have done in the past for sure.
Maybe one day he will see that you were helping both of you by the decision.
Peace.
