Sillysquirrel, I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. It makes even things tougher to have to worry about caring for your children financially now too. He is not being supportive or cooperative so I think the lawyer is the best thing - get support for your kids.
I handle the money in our relationship too - over the years he's tried to get involved but isn't very good with it - late bill payments, penalties. Once we drove around without car insurance for a month because he forgot to send in the papers. But now since having my daughter I wanted to stay home with her, and he was ok with that so we moved to a less expensive city and closer to my parents. So now while I'm evaluating how I feel and if he and I can make it, I realize that if I leave, I will have to go back to work, and that hurts because I want to be with my little girl. But, I will have at least my portion of the house sale that should hold me until I could figure things out. Hang in there!
