Do pets know first?

I have noticed something in the last couple of days that I really hope is pet intuition.

We have horses, dogs, and cats, and something is definitely up.

When I took inventory of the things I wanted to change when I started recovery, one of the things I wanted was to rekindle some of the joy I had when I'm with my four-legged children.

I have noticed our horses gathering around me more when I'm in their paddock and sighing deeply. As though they find me relaxing, which has not been the case in the last few months. Too much tension before?

The dogs have been acting noticeably silly in the last couple of days. I work at home, and we spend most of each day together. Lots of wagging and bopping about. Several times I've had to stop and ask them what on earth they've been smokin'.

My youngest, a 1-year-old tabby has been very down lately. Probably the last of his growing pains, but I was starting to get concerned. Well, today I awoke to him upside down in bed next to me. He was very snuggly and very chatty. A new outlook perhaps?

They've always reacted to my moods and are quick to leave the room when ABF is in a beer-induced snit. He likes to argue that I have trained them to avoid him. Hardly.

Tonight was a good example, though. Our female dog, Daddy's favorite, was hamming it up in front of me on the couch while we were eating dinner (the last bit of family time we spend) and was trying to get our male dog to join her in a wrestle. It was clear to me she was really feelin' good. ABF grumbled asking what her problem was. Typical.

That seemed to quash her enthusiasm, and she just sat sadly at my feet.

In response, I took my plate to the kitchen and never returned. Needless to say, all the pets followed me out. Thankfully, everyone is napping quietly as I write this and are no worse for the wear.

I sincerely hope this means that, though I feel like I go up and down in my emotions and that I'm stumbling through my first steps in recovery, I am starting to feel a change.

The ones who know me best seem be feeling something. Momma's got a new groove!

ABF will probably never understand, but that's his loss.

Any one else experienced this with their pets???

Animals react more naturally than we do, it's their nature. They don't hide their feelings, most only themselves if felt threatened.

For EX....

My AH always says I like the critters more than him and honestly I've preferred their company more than his many times. Anyway, we got the idea to go to a local orchard ,where they have seasonal things you can pick, and a huge petting zoo. There's always tons of kids running around feeding the animals and playing on all the equipment. As we were making our way around a llama comes running from the back of a huge field at AH. It charges the fence and throwing its front legs on it as it SPITS at AH. No joke. That llama really gave him what for, picking him out of a crowd of all these people. Karma? Maybe.

My home critters definately know about avoiding AH, they might deal w/ him but they're never happy to see him arrive home.

My critters always tested the water, much like I did. If my ex came home in good mood everything was great. If he was grumpy our night was guarded and on egg shells.

Now they are always relaxed. Even if I come home grumpy they don't retreat, they bother me until I'm happy!! LOL
