Going to my first Alanon meeting tonight
I just found this board two nights ago and have been lurking ever since.
My AH moved out a week ago and left myself and our two teenage boys. We have been married for 23 years. He was angry that I said I was going to Alanon among other things. I promise to come back and post my story soon.
Right now I just want to say thank you to everyone on this board. You've given me the courage to follow through this time. So many times he has stopped drinking, made promises he couldn't keep and then, of course, broke them. This insanity has to stop.
I've learned from reading your posts that I can't fix this relationship. The only thing I can fix is myself. I'm heartbroken and I'm very scared but I choose to recover and move on with my life.
I love what someone's avatar says "Let go or get dragged". I'm through being dragged and I'm letting go.
So tonight I'm going to my first Alanon meeting. I'm so nervous but I'll be back to post how it goes. Thanks for being here.....

You will only get stronger and unless he wants help he will probably get angry. No addict wants anyone to be against them. One day (by the grace of God) maybe he will wake up to his faults and see that you've grown as a person and as a mother. He'll still be where you left him. Good job chickie. I am so proud of you. Stay tough. Only good things for you.
You've got your bs radar on now. woooooooo hooooooooooo

I did attended my third meeting tonight! That's 3 meetings in the last 6 days and I feel stronger already. The topic tonight was gratitude (as it was at my first meeting on Thursday) and I was very grateful that I didn't cry my way through this one! HA!
Alanon is giving me back my sanity. For that I am.....grateful.

Well done Kaye. I am a new member also and have found that al-anon has given me clarity where before there was just a mass of confusing white noise in my head and fog before my eyes, not to mention the gold posts being constantly shifted all over the grounds.
Best wishes

YEAH!!!!!! I'm so glad you're liking it and hanging in there. It's definitely a great sign that, even as newcomer, you appreciate the topic of gratitude! I've heard sooooo many people say that, when they were new, having "gratitude" introduced as the topic just about made them want to puke!
