Finding humor

I've been going about my life as if AH isn't in it, which is pretty much the case since he spends all his time in the garage or bedroom. I'm doing all the cooking (which has been AH's responsibility for the past 21 years), caring for the kids......I figure it's good preparation for when he is physically gone, and having him here is at the moment financially beneficial for me.

Anyhow....tonight AH was gone and I decided to stick the taco shells under the broiler for a second to warm them. Got distracted and turned around to smoke billowing from the oven, opened the door and flames shot out. I closed the door, got the kids and dog out while calling 911. The firetruck arrived with sirens blaring, the nice fireman went in and emerged from the house with the smoldering shells on a blackened cookie sheet. He said, "Now how did this happen?" My 4 year old replies loudly (with all the neighbors standing around) "My mom REALLY doesn't know how to cook....only daddy can do that". So now I can laugh, even with the smell of charred tortilla in the air! We've got a lot to learn, and I figure cooking isn't a bad skill to have.

Agh! Fire!

I'm glad that everyone's ok.

Good on you for taking care of yourself and your kids - getting ready in case you'll need to be doing ALL the cookin'.

I LOVE to see posts that find humor in these situations.

I would take a home ec class.

I'm glad everyone is safe.

Not a bad idea! I think I'll be fine if I avoid the broiler, LOL. And to look on the bright side, my kids got a tour of the fire truck, and they've got great stories to tell their teachers tomorrow......ah to be a preschool teacher, the stories they must hear!

I'm pretty sure the firemen thought I way overreacted. They called off the troops as soon as they arrived, but the flames freaked me out a bit.

thank you for a laugh this morning!!

I remember when my oldest son was keeping a journal for first grade.
one of his entries showed a stick figure mom running out the kitchen door with a flaming pan!!!

his teacher's comment was "my you have an exciting life!"

Oh my gosh I wasn't sure if I was allowed to laugh or not. That was crazy funny. I am so glad you are ok.
I had that happen when I was younger with a pizza. I felt so dumb. hahahaha
Out of the mouths of babes.
Shells are easy to forget ;)

Blessed, 30 seconds in the microwave will warm taco shells, without flame-broiling them, and they won't be to hot for the kids to eat LOL!.

oh!

Agh!

OK, just to let you know, "Us" Fireman aren't perfect either, 20 years ago 911 fire calls in my small town were directed to where I worked in town.

I answered the Fire phone and this woman was on the phone, plainly distraught, crying, I said, "Blah Blah Fire, what's your emergency?"

The woman cried that her cat was stuck up in a tree

I replied, "Is the cat on fire???"

Needless to say the amount of strongly worded memos generated by this incident were not negligible.

Glad I could provide some chuckles......and I do assume you are laughing WITH me and not AT me!:firedevil

blessed, you and the clan are welcome at my house for dinner anytime! :ghug

And now.... :lmao

A tip - use the timer. It is very easy to get distracted but that annoying as heck beeping when the timer goes off cannot be ignored!

You can just stick them in a 200 degree oven too, no need for the broiler.

A sense of humor is priceless!

Blessed if I am ever passing through MO I will come cook dinner for you and your clan, put out any fires I start too, I have some experience with that as well

I don't cook either.........

.I remember after leaving Ah #1 - he had cooked for me for 13 years. I went to cook a pizza- simple you would think. It came out -looked good and then we went to cut it and I realized I had left the cardboard on. WTH? My 7 year old at the time.... said thats okay Mom we can still eat it and we did- we picked the pizza off the cardboard and laughed about it. So you caught the stove on fire.....you weren't hurt...the kids are fine.....live and learn. Can we take a cooking class together?
