The books, No More Letting Go & Love First
 

Has anyone read either of these and have comments on them?

I haven't read either of the books, but I looked them both up on Amazon.com and read the editorial reviews and all the customer comments. Looks like a lot of wishful thinking to me. I've read a lot about interventions written by specialists who have conducted hundreds of them, and unless the alcoholic is already prepared to focus on his/her recovery, they don't work. If the alcoholic still has more drinking to do, it will be done no matter what.

I sense that you're looking for confirmation that there's still hope for your marriage. I may be wrong, but I caution you to be realistic.

I have this book: Love First: A New Approach to Intervention for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction by Jeff Jay, Debra Jay

It is by far the very best book out there for planning an intervention w/o a professional interventionist. Can be used even if you do plan to use one. Authors are ex-addict and the wife of one who has worked for yrs. in treatment ctr.
They suggest not turning back on our loved ones but instead getting them into the treatment they need.
Excellent book if you are considering an intervention

i've read No More Letting Go. I agree with the author and look forward to a society that does not enable addiction in the same way we no longer tolerate drunk driving. And I'm old enough to remember when drunk driving was tolerated at all levels of society, so I know that a "societal psyche" can be changed.

In my situation, there are not enough family and friends to do an intervention on my son. But i do "soft interventions" on him every time i can. Any act of loving detachment can also be called a soft intervention.

Haven't read them. What do they say?

Are both these books about interventions?

Out of curiosity, why would you want to read a book about an intervention when your AH has apparently intervened upon himself?? I am confused.

Judging by the other responses I'm guessing they're about interventions?

IMO interventions should be done by a professional and the family.

I've not read them, dont know that they are completely about interventions or not. Thats why I was asking.
Just seemed to be a "new" way to look at alcoholism.
