Wink Isn't it ironic?

That one of my stbxah's major complaints about me was that I never took care of myself and that I always put myself last?

I live in a hot and sunny place and haven't had a pair of sunglasses in YEARS which means wrinkles galore appearing around my eyes now that I'm getting older since I constantly squint to see.
I finally bought myself a pair, on clearance for $7, and was thinking that it was a very small step in taking care of myself, which lead me to think about AH's complaints about me not taking care of myself.

Just think its ironic!

I don't see it as ironic. I see it as you deciding to take care of yourself. And I congratulate you.

I understand. I didn't buy myself a decent pair of sunglasses until last year, and I'm still working on talking myself into a really good raincoat.

What a great example you will be for your children. You wouldn't want your daughter to abandon her own needs just to pour all of her care into taking care of someone else would you? You want her to see you taking care of you. That is awesome.

In Getting Them Sober, the author stresses one of the first steps to take in our own recovery is to do at least one thing every day, even if only for 15 minutes or so. It sounded so silly to me at first, but it really changed my mindset around. I truly did not realize how poorly I had come to treat myself. (And if I don;t treat myself well, why would I be surprised if others did not follow suit?)

Glad you got your sunglasses!

Enjoy!
