Hey gang,
This is a very painful subject for many of us. Can we please limit our discussion to the issues brought up by the original poster, and direct our experience, strength and hope to _her_.
The reason we strongly encourage folks to contact their local shelter is because that shelter will have information _specific_ to their location. Whether some police departments are better funded than others, whether some are more over-worked than others, is not the subject of this thread. The resources available to the _specific_ location of the original poster can only be known to the local shelter that has direct experience in that matter.
