The Language of Letting Go

Tuesday, July 1, 2008
You are reading from the book The Language of Letting Go

Receiving

Here is an exercise.

Today let someone give to you. Let someone do something nice for you. Let someone give you a compliment or tell you something good about yourself. Let someone help you.

Then, stand there and take it. Take it in. Feel it. Know that you are worthy and deserving. Do not apologize. Do not say, "You shouldn't have." Do you feel guilty, afraid, ashamed, and panicky? Do not immediately try to give something back.

Just say, "Thank you."

Today, I will let myself receive one thing from someone else, and I will let myself be comfortable with that.

Receiving is very hard for me. Typical codie I guess. But I have been working on it and it is getting easier.

Rella, thanks for posting this! I needed to be reminded!

This morning at work, one of my bosses sent me an email saying thanks for my recent hard work and to a job well done. My first reaction was a small laugh to myself!! I am not even sure why I did that! I guess I am not used to receiving praise without there being a flip side KWIM?

I did manage to say thanks to him though, it was very nice of him to take the time to tell me he was grateful and proud of my work, and it felt nice to have my hard work noticed!

I am lucky that everyday at work, I regularly have a cup of tea made for me as we all make for one another when we go into the kitchen. That feels good too!

I always have to give compliments back. Even if someone buys me something I have to give it back. I'm weird like that. This weekend I went out with some friends and she bought me a drink. Mine was 5op dearer so I scrabbled in my purse to even it up. She looked at me like I'm crazy!

Thats something I still need to work at.

I like this thread - its an eye opener.
