Changes

I was sitting here reflecting on my life and how it's changed since RAH joined AA....
*I went to Europe for a month and didn't worry that he would be spending all our money (before I could! )
* I'm smiling and laughing again
* We have money in our bank account
* I'm not scared to talk to him
* my heart doesn't drop when I come home from work to see a fire going, cause it just means he's sitting by the fire, not that he's drinking
* I don't have to keep an ear out for the phone when he's on call, cause he's not passed out drunk
* I discovered that I am a fun person
* No more 3am phone calls to my dad for help
* We go for more walks
* He's not as angry
* The money we spend to go to camp is a lot less
* He's helping my dad with the boat more
* I don't always have to drive when we go out cause he's too drunk
* When he calls from work I don't have to try to figure out if they're all drinking again
* He comes home after work
* I'm falling in love with my husband all over again

This post just captures for me all the hopes and dreams we have for ourselves and the addicts we love. It is very moving for me to read it, and I am happy and excited for your progress.

And, it makes me cry, knowing this outcome, as much as I prayed for it, is no longer possible for me. 6 months of grief work is only a portion of my process so far, and I thank you for sharing something that really is helpful for me to see and feel.

Blessings to you and your husband for your continued recovery.

SailorKaren - thank you so much for your wonderful post!
I just want to share a quote with you that has helped me a lot:

I was regretting the past and fearing the future. Suddenly God was speaking "My name is I am." I waited and God continued: "When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, I am not there. My name is not I was. When you live in the future with its problems and fears, it is hard, I am not there. My name is not I will be. When you live in this moment, it is not hard. I am here. My name is I am."

Please try not to be sad for what might have been, you never know what is waiting just around the corner for you.
