What a fun day!
My daughter recently graduated from college, so I threw a graduation party in her honor. I decided to keep it fun and simple so I could spend more time socializing with my family and friends and less time in the kitchen.
The theme of this weekend's party was "You CAN teach an old dog a new trick." So what does that mean? Well, it means I threw a hot dog party. I decided it might be fun (and inexpensive) to come up with some really creative toppings and let folks experiment. I let my guests choose from:
The All-American Dog
Ketchup, mustard, relish, onions
The Enchilada Dog
Nacho cheese sauce, spicy black bean salsa, and Fritos
The Goin' Green Dog
Guacamole, salsa, and sour cream
The Windy City Dog
Diced onions, cucumbers, and tomatoes
The Texas Hot Dog
Spicy chili, shredded cheddar cheese, and onions
The Mediterranean Dog
Sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, and feta cheese
The Corny Island Dog
Corn, chopped red peppers, and crumbled bacon
The Italian Stallion
Italian sausages with carmelized onions, red, and green peppers
People not only tried my suggested combinations (the enchilada and goin' green dogs were the most popular), but they came up with some pretty creative toppings from the mix I offered on their own. Side dishes included baked beans with hot sausage, macaroni salad, and deviled eggs. Dessert consisted of four varieties of ice cream and rasperry swirled cheesecakefrom the Cheesecake Factory.
I used paper plates and napkins and disposable cups and utensils, so clean up was a breeze.
One of the best things about recovery is that now that I keep the focus on myself, my life is simplier, happier, and my creative side is free to sing.
And oh yes, the hot dog party was a huge hit. Red hots, get yer red hots! Life is good. Recovery is good. Hot dogs are good.

Thanks guys! I am a proud mama. My daughter got her degree in computer science. She started her first job a week before graduation. She works just four miles away from me, so we've been commuting together. I get to spend quality time with my daughter and we get to save some money on gas (it's a 110-mile RT commute).
I've been trying to learn how to appreciate Rock and Roll and she's been trying to learn how to appreciate Easy Listening music. As a compromise, we've also been listening to books on tape. But she likes SciFi and I like mysteries....

I never thought of some of those toppings on a hotdog before! I'd be a green dog all the way! yum!
Congratuations to your daughter. That's an achievement to be proud of!

Sounds like a great day! What a great idea for a party! I love hot dogs, my daughter and I picked up one when we were out together this weekend shopping and checking out our Maritime museum in Liverpool. I had mustard, fried onion, barbecue sauce and ketchup on mine, but I love the idea of the enchillada dog! Sweet chilli sauce on hot dogs is also really yummy!
Congrats to your daughter FD!
