Conventions are big giant meetings. People have a whole bunch of back to back meetings, speakers, lunches and so on. The one here in Vegas is in November and it includes both AA and al-anon at the same time. The smaller conventions only last one day, the bigger ones go all weekend.

The best place to find out about conventions in your area is at meetings of al-anon. They have flyers for all the conventions right on the literature table, and you can ask people which ones they like. I love going to them, it's like a big party but without the booze and drugs.
