Codie withdrawal

Someone wrote about "Codie withdrawal" in another post.

It really hit home for me. Not having a "relationship" (real or someone to worry about/think about) leaves me feeling alone, lonely, sad and desperate. A very dark and scary place.

I wanted to ask all of you what your "withdrawal" feels like and what healthy and unhelathy behaviors you seek to deal with the feeling.

For me unhealthy behavior - seek psychic to comfort me that I will find someone who loves me, obsess about who "viewed me" on dating sites, drive past ex's place, buy things to make me feel pretty

Healthy - seek intimacy with friends and my sister, ?get a dog? therapy

Yup. I know. That's the hardest part, learning to love without this unhealthy tie to another person.

Do things for you first. Then do things for people you're not fixated on, but can truly be there for.

Yoga. Alanon. Any healthy group activity. Redo the house. Meditate. Seek out new healthy people, but keep your eyes open!

Unhealthy for me...shopping excessively for new clothes...things to make me feel better.....absolutely. Flirting with guys online.....

But for me lately, prayer, God, reading positive things, positive people, quality time with my son, journalizing, posting/reading on this site...all this is turning out to help me grow in my own recovery.

Unhealthy for me was wanting to know what they were doing all the time and if they were OK.

These days I focus on being the best person I can be. If I wake up in the morning and feel good about what I did yesterday, I know Im OK.
