thanks for those quick replies, there is alot more to tell but I need the time and the head to do it. I feel amazingly vulnerable talkining to people I cant see!! I guess if I can say life for us / me is better now than 6 years ago then we are very slowly stepping in the right direction but it is really hard to trust again. I am always on the look out for signs of drinking.

What dawned on me was that I was giving up on myself. Why?

I've also learned that "when I'm ready" doesn't just happen. Moments of clarity are everywhere and it's up to me to pay attention and take action. I try to keep my eyes, ears, heart and mind open and make choices that are right for me.

I never give up hope for anyone who suffers from this god awful disease.

When did I give up on him?

Well apparently not until I was good and ready to. In my case, that was 25 years. I spent a quarter of a century with a drunk when I could have been out there living a good life. Some of us are slow learners.

But these days I'm making up for lost time. I'm living life to the fullest--the way I want to live and how I want to live--and I'm enjoying every minute of it. My life started when I let go of his hand.

What a pity that I wasted 25 years.
