My Top

I've seen so many threads entitled "My Bottom" on this forum, that I thought I'd start a new one that deals with what's positive in my life now that I've embraced recovery and learned how to let go of the people and things that were keeping me from living my best life. So here goes:

You know you've reached your top when:

You wake up feeling refreshed every morning, embrace the new day, and can't wait to see what unfolds.

You find yourself singing your heart out along with the radio again.

You look up old friends that you haven't seen in ages.

You frequently take time out of your busy schedule to pamper yourself.

You feel good in every way--mind, body, and spirit.

You've taken a renewed interest in your health and appearance, and you like what you see in the mirror.

You focus on what's good about you and you like yourself again.

You smile easily and laugh often.

You look forward to coming home from work and entering a peaceful, nurturing home.

You take yourself out on the town, fix yourself a special dinner, buy a fabulous new outfit and wear it when you go grocery shopping.

You try a new hairdo, wear something you normally wouldn't dare, and feel confident about your new look.

You excel in your job, tackle home projects that you've ignored for years, and begin challenging projects that you never had the courage to try before.

You smile at strangers and they smile back.

You spread your wings and fly.

You realize that life is abundant and good and there is plenty of love, laughter, joy, and success for everyone.

You thank the alcoholic in your life for taking you by the hand and leading you down the path to recovery.

You realize that sometimes angels come in the form of lost souls that wreak of alcohol.

You thank your Higher Power for waiting patiently in the wings until you were ready to hear His message.

Thanks FormerDoorMat.
I am soooooooo looking forward to that day.
It will come. I will do the work and it will come.
Thank you for reminding me what I am going through all this pain for.
It'll be worth it.

fdm....my hero!!!! i love my life now, too. and i am forever grateful for the alcoholic in my life for leading me into uncharted territory about myself.

you have influenced me greatly during this past year by leading me to understand that our alcoholics have a soul, and are not evil.....that they are troubled and tortured in a way we will never experience....that they "are" for a reason....that they are human and need to treated as a sick person instead of a freak.

thank you for sharing.....you have made my day!

Great post, hon.

I am nowhere near my top yet. Still got some (internal) mountains to climb. But the view from where I am is so much clearer, more beautiful and more peaceful than any I ever seen before in this lifetime. And you are one of the people that encouraged me not only to make the climb, but also taught me that it was safe to keep putting one foot in front of the other. And so I shall continue.

Thank you.

Like Minnie, I don't think I have reached my top yet. I believe there is so much more to my life that I haven't even begun to unearth. But, I am steadily moving up from my bottom. And the sky is the limit!
