Alcoholic Dementia

Can someone tell me something about this disease? I am serious guys. Something is wrong with my husband. He is talking weird and acting really weird. He has not drunk anything (that I know about) for 15 days.
He is not a Christian person but he is staying buried in the Bible and when I ask questions he tells me that it is none of my business.HELP!!!

Hi Mama....this is a new one on me - I haven't heard of someone that has quit -then going into this kind of a stage of withdrawal....I am sure that someone will be along soon tho that can answer this for you.....my XAH has never really tried to quit drinking so I can't comment on this but it will be interesting to see what some of the others have to say on this. Hang in there ok. ((((((((((((((((Mama))))))))))))))

My AH acts strange when he cuts way back or stops completely (he is not an all day drinker even). He sleepwalks and hardly speaks and paces around frantically. Maybe some A's can chip in and give you some advice here.

I don't know if I would presume it is an effect of alcoholism. Why not see if you can get him to the doc for a check up? Might make you both feel better...?

Wish you the best.

My sister got like that is what was w/drawal;even though it was later than expected.

I'd seek medical attention, pronto. May not not be drinking related;could even be something serious but you won't know until you do...........better safe than sorry.

Like the others have said, see a doc. There are all sorts of reasons for this sort of symptom.

There are several different dementias in the DSM-IV-TR... excessive alcohol consumption leads to Wernickee's Korsakoff's syndrome, which resembles Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type. However, it usually is not progressive.

Yes, this is very serious. My husband is the recovering alchoholic and he said they used to call it "wet brain". It's not progressive, but, and I don't want to alarm you, but he says it's also not reversible. I would highly recommend you seek medical care. Again, this may NOT be what your husband has but he absolutely should get checked out. In my opinion, with his consent or without.

I think I have seen Alcoholic Dementia in my XABF. Boy he would act crazy. I have never seen him sober, so I don't know about your case. But between you and me, I'd rather an RAH buried in a Bible than buried in booze. Maybe wait it out and see where it goes?

P-A-N ... diabetes can cause dementia or weird behavior? Interesting.

Wet Brain

Here's some info I found... The brain's internal spaces are enlarged, and the fissures in the cortex are widened. This general loss of brain tissue is associated with alcoholic dementia (wet brain), a decline in the capacity for thinking or learning. Other symptoms of organic brain disorders are mental confusion, impaired coordination while walking, impaired vision, and memory loss.

I'm so glad he's doing better. I would still ask him to get checked out though. Seems pretty serious.
