Book on As
A week or so ago, there was a thread that mentioned a book that really describes the hell alcoholics go through. I would love to read it and maybe understand their world. I think it was called "Beyond ________" and there was a sequel too? My memory's sketchy on it, but I think someone gave a link to a thread on SR that had a couple chapters typed out.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Under the Influence and Beyond the Influence.

Great books, I agree with most of what's written in them, especially the physical aspects of the addiction and how out bodies adapt.

Other books are listed under "classic reading" up in the sticky's. including the AA Big Book on line, with stories in back of recovering A's
Under Classic reading find Book club 2 and go to 3rd page for AA Big Book.

i am reading under the influence now, and i am finding it very informative, but i feel kind of confused. the auther is saying that the family should keep on trying to help the A get into treatment. my AH has been in 5 rehabs. am i supposed to just keep trying to get him help? i know it s a disease and he cant help it but......maybe it wasnt the "right kind"? last monday he came over and asked me to take him to the hospital for detox. swore up and down he didnt want to live this way anymore. so i did drop him off there. they kept him 5 days, he was supposed to go to a halfway house. he says there was no room for him there. i dont know if thats true or not. but he is back on the street again drinking!!! i dont understand.
