Book Recommendations
 

I know there is a sticky list at the top of this forum, but I would like to know what books have really helped you personally.

I bought the following books from the Alanon website and eBay:

The Dilemma of the Alcoholic Marriage
Al-Anon’s Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions
THE SET: ODAT & CTC
Codependent No More + Beyond Codepend...Melody Beattie

and I ordered a bunch of pamphlets. Are the ones I bought any good? I guess I will decide that for myself, but I would just like people's opinions. Thanks! :redface:

Both of the Beattie books are excellent, you might also want to read Under The Influence to get a deeper understanding of alcoholism.

Beyond Codendency
Language of Letting Go (I think my favorite only after reading and understanding the first two)
Playing It By Heart (good background on where the author came from)

Also, in my particular case, the following book was invaluable to me, as domestic violence was the MOST CRITICAL issue I had to deal with, his alcoholism was second:

To be honest, Alanon literature was my first step, and I was grateful for it at the time, but I really, really needed to concentrate on the last book mentioned. Perhaps that's why I didn't find the Alanon meetings to give me what I truly needed. However, I do recommend that everyone give Alanon a good try, and, I did! I must have gone to over 20 meetings.

"The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck. I have read it several times.

By far, the most valuable series I've read to date

Yup, whouldda thunk, a codie readig the BB?!?! I just started in my "couch" meetings on Saturday Morning. Been to quite a few BB reading with my XA but to hear the perspective of the codie on each chapter has been quite enlightening. sort of "melds" it all together.

Women Who Love Too Much - when you keep wishing and hoping he'll change (Robin Norwood)

Something More (Sarah Ban Breathnach) -- Great book on finding happiness within ourselves, no matter what our circumstances.

I'm agreeing with LaTee Da and suggesting The Road Less Traveled. And I would add Dark Nights of The Soul by Thomas Moore. My copy is looking rough I read parts over so much.
