Out of the hospital, but still in bad shape
That was a few hair-raising days, and I appreciate all the prayers and positive thoughts being sent my way. My liver enzymes are waaayyy too high. Anyway, I don't understand all the medical mumbo-jumbo, but one enzyme reading should be in the mid 30's and mine is 500! Iroinc? Yeah, since my AH staggered into a detox/rehab with the same enzyme elevation, but the reading was a high of 188 and he's been trashed for years! Go figure, huh?
I also have gall stones and apparently passed one, which caused excruciating pain for several hours. Ever notice how these type of things happen at, like, 4 in the morning rather than mid-afternoon? Anyway, the ambulance took me to the local hospital and all sorts of tests were run, but my liver enzymes are high and the doctors have NO idea why. The general consensus is I have liver damage. Like I said, AH drinks like a fish and his liver is fine; I don't drink, and I've got the bum liver! LOL!!!
I'll be going to Phoenix in three weeks to meet with a gastro specialist. Docs in this small town don't cut it with me. It was kinda like they were practicing to be doctors at the hospital, and one of the so-called "specialists" was so looney I ordered her out of my room. I mean, this woman probably couldn't get a job as a doc anywhere but here, because we are desperately short of folks who work in all fields of medicine.
Anyone out there who is a med tech, nurse, lab specialist, etc. want to live in "beautiful" Yuma, Arizona? C'mon down! (AND, NO, IT IS NOT DRY HEAT!!!)
Again, thank you so much for your prayers. The people on this board are very special to me!

OMG the irony of it. Same with my mum. Never drank a drop except a few highballs with family over holidays, died of cirrhosis of the liver. AF drank a case of beer a day and outlived her more than 10 years, died of pulmonary complications. Perfectly good liver. Go figure.
Hope the docs get to the bottom of this and you get feeling better soon.

Gee, its like getting cancer from second hand smoke when you've never smoked a day in your life! I'll keep you in my prayers Prodigal. My liver enzymes went off the chart when I was pregnant, resulting in an emergency c section. Don't suppose that's your issue? LOL

No, dobie, THAT is definitely not the issue ...
... unless it's another Immaculate Conception! LOL!!!!! Besides, I've already gone through "the change" so there won't be any "buns" cookin' in this old oven!

Wraybear - glad to see you're still here with us. There IS power in prayer, and I can use as much of it as possible right now. It's kinda like I'm walking around wondering if I'm a tickin' time bomb - will my liver konk out any minute and I'll just drop dead? Jeesh, let's hope not! Anyway, I'm still shaking my head over this. I eat a low-fat, high-fiber diet, dropped 25 lbs., and work out at a gym four times a week. I've done my fair share of drinking in the past, but it was nothing like AH's.
But I remember I posted here a long time ago about how booze always tore up my stomach when I attempted to party with AH. It could be that my drinking back then caused liver damage. My body obviously could not tolerate any large quantity of the stuff because it was like pouring Ex-Lax down my throat. Ugh.
Hey, live and learn and thank God I'm alive today. Gotta take it one day at a time!

The liver is affected by emotions too so try to keep yourself from extremes in emotion. I was just thinking about how I love your liver right before I saw this post. It is a calm kind of love an appreciation of how important the liver is. You better know that I am sending out prayers and support for your liver.
Also you might want to key in "liver healing crisis" or just "healing crisis" in your search bar and see what comes up. Love ya girl....

My father went through the exact same thing. He only drank occassionally but for some unexplained reason his liver started to fail.
He ended up having a liver transplant 5 years ago and is now healthier than he has been in 20 years.
I'll keep you in my prayers, best of luck to you

FYI, my mom had liver issues when she had gall stones (blocked duct) she turned yellow from jaundice just like someone with advanced liver disease would, once she had her gall bladder removed her liver returned to normal.
