Trying to learn from both sides of the fence

I have gone through the torture of family being alcoholics.. and now find myself there. I have a good job and am still able to maintain my family life... But I know what is going to happen and hate it. I am so dissappointed that I turned into what I hated hated hated!

Welcome to SR, we are glad you found us.

I dont think anyone decides to wake up one day knowing they are Alcoholic and destroying their families....but knowing and admitting is the first step to getting help and advoiding more damage.

So now that you see this happening, what are you going to do with the information?

The cliche excuses flow freely in my mind... I would lose my job.. I would upset my wife.. I would shame my children.. etc. etc. I suck and I know it.. I don't suck at being a husband or dad.. but I will soon. I hate excuses and yet the fall to the occasion so well wouldn't you say? I am going to try to handle it but am terrified of withdrawl and am researching how to handle it.

Ohhh I can help you with the research....

Are you willing to go to any length to stop drinking? There is no excuse for alcoholism, its a disease.

Get on over to the alcoholics forum Lazlo. Lot's of us there. Some brand new, some recovering, and everything in between.

And yes, you're correct, it will progress.
