i taught them well........
talk about a light bulb moment! i have four adult children. an issue came up that caused all four of them to start clucking like a bunch of chickens, repeatidly calling each other, updating every 5 minutes, "what-if-ing", awfulizing, nervous nellie time.
they were so dramatic. and i was so calm. then, as i was speaking to them, i found myself saying so many basic things, many common sense things, many things to re-direct in a more positive manner.
then it hit me....my lands....i taught my children so well how to react to an adverse situation, didn't i? the way they were reacting was how they had seen me react for years.
they were now looking at me like i was an alien from a galaxy far, far away. they even formed a possee to come here and break the news of this issue to me....and i was like.....ok...yeah, so lets calm down and think of what it really is, here.
it was grand!!!!! oh, not that they were all upset, but that i had an eye opener. and i hope they did, too, after we talked for awhile.
they left by saying.....well, we thought you would just panic, mom, and just get really upset.
thank you, my higher power, al-anon, sr, and even my xh....for showing me a new life.

It must feel great when your compsoure is real and you actuallly feel it. I think people underestimate that after living with the stress and pressure of living with an alcoholic, we don't sweat the small stuff and it's really all small stuff now.

jeri,
i can so understand that whole occurence - i remember telling my mom, at some point, i will have whatever conversation i want with whoever i want, and you have yours - i'm not getting wrapped up in the he said, she said drama - the truth is so much easier when it just is - lay your cards on the table and deal with it...
i'm glad you see it for what it is...
love,

Hate the expression
"Save the Drama for Your Momma"
This Momma doesn't go there anymore!! Oh yeah and my 5 girls go there ALL the time. I, too, just kind of sit back and watch, knowing they will find their way to get "help" when it is there time. Just try to carry the message by example not by "preaching" it to them. It's tough, cuz I surely know what they need (ha ha ha!!! - oops relapse - excuse me while I start with step 1 again
