OT - Housewarming Gifts Wanted
OT - Housewarming Gifts Wanted
Next week, I will be moving into my own place for the very first time. I am looking for housewarming gifts from ya'll at SR.
Not real gifts, mind you - I thought it would be neat (if you are willing) to give me a housewarming gift of wisdom, thoughts, insights and love re: living alone and doing well.
So bring it on - pictures, sayings, advice, readings, wisdom, experience.....that is what I really want for my new home. I couldn't have done it without the ESH I have gotten on these boards and I love all of you. SO, a virtual housewarming party with all of my best friends in attendance - don't be afraid to be creative.....
Can't wait to see you there!
Love to you all

SO SO happy for you!!!!! I have been single all but 3 years of my 49 on this earth-so I know alone!(different then lonely)
Living alone you can set up everything the way you want it.
You can walk around naked-no one cares lol
eat what you want and when--it is total freedom.
I guess the main things are to be safe!(locks/security)
Make friends near where you live (slowly)
And a pet is a must--so if you do get lonely they are there--always waiting for you. The easiest pet is a cat or a bird--dogs are the best but require much more work-if you are willing.
Make it your place!
oh and my quote???
HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS
Best of luck to you--and keep us updated!

Congrats on your new home, Tango! I'm sure it's a great feeling.
When I bought my little house in early recovery almost two years ago it was wonderful to let my kids choose most of the furniture and help with decorating. I like to think that our love for each other fills our home, and on the nights that I don't have custody I'm still warmed and filled up with that love.
I've posted this before and you've probably seen it, but it's a reminder to me that I've never been alone, even when I was deep in my disease.
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him
he looked back, at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied:
"My son, My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you, During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

"Little by little, the bird makes its nest."
Don't try to rush everything! You will create your own peace and space as needed!
After 2 months of living alone, I can honestly say I love it and you will, too!!

My best friend and I were at her sister's new home, ( a long time ago), and friend was complaining horribly about where her sister kept her flatware.....I couldn't believe that someone could tell someone else how to arrange their kitchen! So, with that in mind, I will give you no "housewarming gift" other than to say - it's yours! Make it how you want it! Don't let anyone tell you how it SHOULD be.
Congrats.
Congrats.
"Everyday happiness means getting up in the morning, and you can't wait to finish your breakfast. You can't wait to do your exercises. You can't wait to put on your clothes. You can't wait to get out. And you can't wait to come home, because the soup is hot."
My wish for you is that you turn your new home into a warm, loving, and safe haven that reflects who 'you' are in this new life that you are creating for yourself. A place where no matter what goes on with family, friends, the job, etc. you always find peace and are nurtured within your new surroundings.
what a wonderful idea! i'm sending you a crock pot of homemade vegi soup and batch of fresh chocolate chip cookies, just to make the move day a bit easier. enjoy your new home - morning, noon, and night. blessings, k

May the sunshine through your windows and the rain help your new garden of peace grow! Blessings to a new beginning!
It is grand to come home and have serenity in the air-you will love it!

n work, the greatest satisfaction lies - the satisfaction of stretching yourself, using your abilities and making them expand, and knowing that you have accomplished something that could have been done only by your unique apparatus. This is really the center of life, and those who never orient themselves in this direction are missing more than they ever know.

Congrats on the new home - Wishing you the best. Like others have said, Make it your own.
15 Months after surviving Hurricane Rita, SBA Loans, Government paper work, delays after delays, we moved into our new home on December 23, 2006. What a wonderful blessing. Our master bedroom decorum is 12 Step Recovery - Camels, Serenity Prayers, Crosses, 12 Promises, Palms Trees, Prayers, Sobriety Chips - It is truly our Sanctuary.
Hope you can at least make one room that is a Sanctuary for you.
Peace,
Rita
