Taking care of me, for a change

Gotta cold today. Not a huge cold, just the ordinary, runny nose, dragged out feeling kind of a cold. Because the docs have me on steroids to control the nerve inflamation I have it means my immune system is very weak, so I have to be extra careful that this cold doesn't get worse. I also have a leaky valve in my heart, and if the cold bug ever gets into my blood stream I'd be in all kinds of trouble.

Not quite a year ago I got a cold and in spite of staying home and taking meds I still wound up in the cardiac unit. So being extra careful with my health is really important.

All of my codie-isms are on red alert screaming that I should be super-dependable and over-responsible and go into work and fight this cold. Somewhere in my toxic childhood I learned that my worth as a person is based on my ability to meet other people's physical needs. Taking care of _my_ needs is something I was never taught.

So today I'm calling in sick and going to take care of _me_ for a change. I'm going to stay home and take my meds like my docs have instructed me to. If I feel better in the afternoon I might go out for a bit of fresh air and do a small errand. This is the advice I would give my ex-wife if she were sick with the cold, and especially if her overall health were as messed up as mine.

My emotions are still not caught up with my head. However, I have learned enough in recovery to know that I don't have to act like I _feel_ I should and show up at work. I can act like I _know_ I should and do for me what I'm always doing for everybody else.

So please pardon all the nose-blowing noises today

Mike

Good for you.
In fact I did the same thing today.
I’ve been having some pretty bad headache and it goes all the way down the back. Left arm gets numb too which is freaking me out.
So I made an appointment to see the Dr. today.
Funny my boss said, well when you done at the Dr., come in.

Sounds about right huh?

Hope you feel better.

Mike,
I hate it when that happens!
I'm so glad you decided to stay home and take care of yourself.
Here's the RX from me
rest, hot herbal tea and some chicken soup.
I hope you feel better soon.

Good for you Mike. I'm a firm believer in taking sick days for mental/emotional colds as well! Work, dirty laundry, muddy floors... all that stuff can wait, my health/sanity is far too precious!

Be good to yourself, Mike.
You deserve it too. And it's about time you acted on that fact!

Well I’m back from the Doc.
I told him everything and he gave me a R/X for some meds.
The thing that I’m worried about is what is next.
He told me that there is a possibility that this can be caused by a brain tumor.
He is setting up a CAT scan for me ASAP.

I feel a bit stunned right now at all this

Mike, your post made me think how often we do for others, and give advice to them for their betterment, but how often do we do it for ourselves? Good for you! Selfness.... Hope you can get out today and do your errand and feel better!
Mr. C, please, know that there could be tons of other reasons for your symptoms, eg.pinched neck nerve. BUt, of course all we hear is the worst scenario. Have a similar scare going on w/ my daughter right now. Peace come to you....and good report!

Mr C, Thanks for the report. Yes, Cat scan would be good. it can rule out anything serious, then maybe some simple treatment will fix you right up.

Well, no wonder you have a cold. It's wintertime and you're standing outside with no shoes on. For goodness sakes, bundle up or get inside! And oh yes, I think the Christmas lights would have looked better on your head than on the tree. Avatar gods, get with the program!
