It's impossible to be "close" to someone with an addiction. The choice is whether a relationship that includes distance due to drinking is one I want to be in. I chose to leave when I realized I could not live a half life.

Good luck.

Thank you all for your imput ... staying is hard, leaving is hard ... I did have a life before him. A good life. Sometimes I can't believe this is my life, and I haven't told hardly anyone. just too embarrassed that I got caught up in it. part of me wants to run, probably that gut ... and part wants to stay, not that I think I can change him, but somehow I managed to fall in love with him, he can be sweet, and has even helped my daughter out several times with things ... he doesn't get nasty when he drinks, but I he does seem to be needy of my time ... even though he denies it. so why do we fall for these, and are there any of you that are still with yours and why do you stay??
