Chat/Log in problems

For log in and chat issues.

Before logging in check the little "Remember Me" box next to the log in window. This will usually resolve the issue of getting automatically logged out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check your security settings.

1. On your browser at the top select Tools, then Internet Options and click the Security tab.
2. Click on "Trusted Sites" (the green circle with the check mark) and then click the "Sites" button below it.
3. Uncheck the "Require server verification (https"button if it's checked, and add the site URL [www.soberrecovery.com] to the "Add this Website to the Zone" field. Then click "Add".
4. Click "OK."
5. Next, click on the "Privacy" tab.
6. Below where it says "Web sites" click on the "Edit" button.
7. Add the bulletin board's domain [www.soberrecovery.com] and select "Always Allow."
8. Click OK twice, close your browser, re-open it and try logging on.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If that doesn't work try minimizing your AOL window and open internet explorer. Try logging in that way. You can find internet explorer by clicking start-programs-internet explorer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are still having problems you can try deleting your temporary internet files and cookies.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

CCleaner - Download
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to clear cookies and your temporary internet files manually use the instructions below.

In rare circumstances, you may need to clear your browser's cache to resolve a connection issue, or to ensure that you're seeing the latest update to a web site. If clearing your browser's cache does not resolve your problem, rebooting your computer is often recommended.

To empty your browser's cache using Windows Internet Explorer version 7

Click on Tools (or the Tools icon) from the Command Bar
Select Delete Browsing History...
Click the Delete files... button near Temporary Internet Files
Click Yes when prompted to delete temporary Internet Explorer files
Click the Close button
Shutdown all open instances of your web browser and restart

To empty your browser's cache using Firefox version 2

Click on Tools from your browser's main menu
Select Clear Private Data...
Ensure that Cache is checked
Click the Clear Private Data Now button
Shutdown all open instances of your web browser and restart

To empty your browser's cache using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6

Click on Tools from your browser's main menu.
Select Internet Options
Under the General tab, click Delete Files... in the Temporary Internet files section.
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.

To empty your browser's cache using Firefox version 1.5

Click on Tools from your browser's main menu.
Select Options
Select the Privacy icon
Select Cache tab.
Click the Clear Cache Now button
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.

To empty your browser's cache using Safari

Click on Safari from the main menu.
Click Empty Cache...
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.

To empty your browser's cache using Opera

Click on Tools from your browser's main menu.
Select Delete private data...
Click the Delete button
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.

To empty your browser's cache using Netscape

Click on Edit from your browser's main menu.
Select Preferences
Select and expand the Advanced category.
Click on Cache
Under Set Cache Options:
Click Clear Memory Cache
Click Clear Disk Cache
Click OK
Important: Shutdown all open instances of your web browser.

To empty your browser's cache using AOL

In Keyword, enter: PREFERENCES. Or, on the Settings menu on the AOL toolbar click Preferences.
In the Organization section of the Preferences window, click Internet Properties (WWW).
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files.
Click OK.

Clearing Cookies

Windows PC

Internet Explorer 7.x

Click Start, click Run, type inetcpl.cpl, and then press ENTER
On the General tab, click Delete under Browsing History in the Internet Properties dialog box
In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click Delete Cookies
In the Delete Cookies dialog box, click Yes.

Internet Explorer (all other versions)
Internet Explorer saves cookies in more than one location, depending on the version of the browser and the version of Microsoft Windows being used.

The best way to find and delete them is to close Internet Explorer then use your file management software (such as Windows Explorer) and search for a folder called 'cookies'.

Netscape Navigator 6.x

Choose Manage Stored Cookies.
Remove any cookie from the list, or remove all cookies.

Netscape Navigator 4.x
In Netscape, all cookies are stored into one file, called Cookies.txt, in the user preferences folder, making them easy to find and delete. The folder can be located by using your file management software to search your hard disk drive for "cookies.txt".

Users of Netscape Navigator 4.x may also stop cookies from being written to the hard drive, by making the cookies file read only. However, even if the browser can't "write" cookies to the hard drive, it can still cache them, and it may create a new cookie file.

Opera
To delete all cookies at the end of every session, select it in the privacy settings under Tools > Preferences.
Click on Manage cookies to delete specific cookies or cookies from specific domains.

To delete all cookies immediately, go to Delete private data on the Tools menu.

Hi amnie,

We are just beginning to organize chat meetings. You can find information here.

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...line-meetings/

If you post on the family and friends forum that you would like to chat maybe someone will be available to go in and talk.

Unhappy Signing In...

Thanks for the information Morning Glory,

I am copying it right now. I had the problem because the correct password was not accepted for some reason. I did get a new password so am back in business.

I am having a pretty severe episode of depression and not is all well with my head and concentration right now. I need to make a book of my forums & user names and passwords. :sorry

I have been trying to get the online paperwork done for our new mail order pharmacy with our medical insurance and it is complicated so I am getting so frustrated because stuff isn't going through right even when I write it down.

Thanks Again,

kelsh

Hi,MG...I did it again...ugh. Tried to answer with a quote and ended up erasing the rest of the poster's post. I can't seem to restore the original by Ichobad in the thread on F and F about "informal poll about staying/leaving" (says I edited it.)

Think you could find this and undue my mistake?

Thanks

Hi Joyce,

That can happen if you have to push the reply button twice.
It views it as a duplicate and sends out an error message.
