Road to Spring 2019

Please sign up by adding a post with the following: 3 good things about your recovery, 2 of your best qualities and 1 goal for your physical fitness. (or more)

Drop-ins welcome.
Grab a bottle of water, hydrate well and enjoy seeing what your body is capable of. One day at a time.

Start wherever you are. Gradually increase your time and intensity.

Ten ideas to jumpstart Road to Spring 2019

1. Get outside! https://health.usnews.com/wellness/f...nd-make-it-fun
2. Racquetball. "Youíll get a stellar workout as you sprint around the court and make shots to win the game. Be sure to warm up! A proper warm up and cool down routine is needed."
3. Go for an evening walk. "Some of the most beautiful skies can be seen during the winter, so why not enjoy a brisk walk under the stars?"
4. Trampoline park. "Working out on a trampoline can improve your coordination and agility and, since it puts your musculoskeletal system under slight stress, promotes stronger bones.Ē
5. Interval training. https://www.shape.com/fitness/workou...uts-really-pay
6. Indoor basketball courts. "A great workout combined with improved coordination - running, passing dribbling, and hand-eye coordination are key elements to the game."
7. Rock climbing gyms. 7 Indoor Rock Climbing Gym Workouts Nerve Rush
8. Nordic skiing.
"There are many health benefits associated with Nordic, or cross-country, skiing. These include overall cardiovascular health, leg strengthening, balance and coordination, and more."
9. Ice skating.
"Ice skating is a pretty tremendous workout. It takes a ton of core strength to stay balanced, it tones infrequently used muscles in your legs and butt, and itís relatively low-impact. To maximize its benefits, skate hard for 20 to 30 seconds before slowing down for 30 seconds and repeating this pattern."
10. Swimming.
"Weíre huge proponents of getting a workout in the pool. Itís way easier on your body than exercises like running (the water provides both support and resistance), it tones pretty much every muscle and itís a great option for people of all skill levels." - purewow

Take what you like and leave the rest!

In my recovery I'm seeing my strength, confidence and self-worth. Two good qualities: my sense of humor and curiosity.

Goals: muscle toning and endurance

New Road thread! It even has that new Road smell! Three things I enjoy about recovery are self confidence, physical/mental health, and general happiness. Two good traits would be honesty and reliability (things that suffered while I was drinking).

Goals this Road: I want to end this Road no heavier than I am now, 185lbs. So gonna try and balance muscle gain with fat loss. Not easy!

Anyway, worked out my Delts, Triceps, & Biceps today. Felt much better working out again. Eating more really helps. The trick is only eating just enough which I do not have the hang of yet. Take care all and enjoy the winter solstice! Thanks for putting up the new thread, Mango212!

Hey all! Did my Legs & Forearms routines today. Went well! Eating more along with taking some new supplements is making my workouts a lot better. Probably due mostly to food. I just canít exercise hard when Iím hungry and weak. Itís been months since I did a Leg workout that left me hobbling around the house later (still not there yet). The addict in me thinks if a little more food helps. even more food will make it even better! Iím going to have to fight those thoughts. Weight was down 0.2lbs, so no real change. Sunday is my weekly rest from lifting day, but Iíll probably do Traps for a half hour followed by house cleaning and gift wrapping. I hope everyone is doing well this holiday weekend!

Great job on the new road mango! 1- if I was not sober I would be dead 2- back to being driven 3- no longer the thing I let booze turn me into. 1- I'm loyal. 3- I don't give up. Fitness goal- Hulk Smash!! First day back lifting tonight been off last three days letting back rest up. It's still kinda sore. Bone cracker put it back together, same hip i started having issues with at the airport. Did chest tonight straight bar bench. Went very light. Lots of slow reps. Skipped landmine chest presses. But did do three sets of push ups till failure. Maybe hit shoulders light tommorow. Taking things slow till I have confidence not gonna keep jacking my hip up. Meet with the trainer week after the holidays. Y'all have a good night!!!!!

Hola all and merry Christmas Eve Eve! Did Traps work today along with some time on the rower and bike. Iíve been skipping the cardio lately. Just not pushing myself as much once I got to my present weight, which finally dipped below 185 today to 184.8lbs.

Hey Butcher70. Those landline presses you mentioned. Just curious, do you anchor the bar in some 45s or bolted it down? Iíve been thinking of settling something like that up to do landmine rows with.

Hey upstairs, I use a rogue landmine setup that the base goes into 45s to anchor. Of all my equipment it is not only the cheapest but definitely my favorite and the most useful piece of equipment I have!! Pretty sure I'm just scratching the surface on all the things to do with it. Highly recommend it my friend!

Hola all and merry Christmas Eve! Todayís routine was Chest & Back. Pretty good workout! Getting a lil stronger in most things. Even added in some bonus back exercises at the end. After I finish wrapping some gifts, I may do some cardio just out of boredom this evening. Tomorrowís routine might be Delts, Triceps, & Biceps or nothing at all. Weigh in this morning had me same as yesterday. Which is what Iím aiming for, actually! Iím hoping I can lose ten pounds of fat this winter and replace it with muscle. Just got to avoid those pizza laden weekends of my not so distant past.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas tomorrow!

Hi Bethany,

It's great to see you here. You're very welcome to join in! The basics:

Quote:
Please sign up by adding a post with the following: 3 good things about your recovery, 2 of your best qualities and 1 goal for your physical fitness. (or more) Drop-ins welcome.

Grab a bottle of water, hydrate well and enjoy seeing what your body is capable of. One day at a time.

Start wherever you are. Gradually increase your time and intensity.
Mind and body are very connected. It's important to be a part of healthy dynamics.

Starting ideas:

Yoguc breathing (pranayama - breath control)
https://www.doyouyoga.com/the-7-best...-off-your-mat/

Visit some gyms and ask if they would step you through a few upper body machines and exercise ideas. Explore possibilities in connecting with people. The mind and body listen to what we tell them. Let it be what you're capable of and will be soon. You get to reject places that don't feel right to you - trust your gut instincts. This lays a foundation of new knowledge of local options.

Nutrition, recovery and healing - an introductory appointment with two or three naturopathic physicians can be an opportunity to find new methods of healing and supporting active bodies. Some may be at very low or no cost.

Hand-eye coordination. Games and activities that promote this can be found in many ways.

Meditation. Relaxation of the mind and body is just as important as toning and nutrition.

Hola all! Did my Delts, Triceps, & Biceps routine today in record slow time! Pretty good workout tho. I could have done it yesterday but I just didnít. Iíll do cardio this evening and report on that this evening. I must document all exercises! Tomorrowís routine is Legs & Forearms. Actually looking forward to that. When youíre not feeling weak from hunger, Leg workouts can be fun. This morningís post Christmas dinner weigh in had me up a full two pounds (186.6lbs) I can lose that pretty quickly I hope. Would have been worse but I was seated next to my obnoxious brother in law who talked nonstop. Made for an early exit from the dinner table!

Welcome aboard Bethany57! I look forward to hearing about your leg recovery!

Butcher70 - I had to google seal rows and seal bench as they were new to me. They look a lot like the T-Bar rows, where your chest is braced to take the pressure off your lower back. I guess the seal row bench would change the angle of your arms a bit, but they seem similar to me. Hope that was of some help!

Ten ideas to jumpstart Road to Spring 2019

!
Thank you Mango for responding and giving me some great ideas.
Things about recovery - waking up clear headed; more energy; healthier overall
Best qualities- hard working; ;loyal
I have so much to work on though. Having a better relationship with my oldest child. It has always been strained. I need to be less judgemental- really need to work on that.
I tend to get easily depressed but when I eat healthy and exercise it really helps to keep that at bay. Have not been doing any of that though with this leg injury. I really do not meditate but I am a spiritual person and would like to pray more in the coming year. I just want to live a simple happy life- is that too much to ask?

Howdy all! Bethany hang in there! And welcome! Anyone got any good crow recipes?? So deadlifts tonight. Video for the trainer. Hip popped again. Same one.. same thing. But on video. Happen at 465. Watched the video beofre sending it. Wow...... My set up when I'm using my straps is terrible. Absolutely locked my legs way too quick and rounded like a cat pulling. Gonna wait to hear from him and come up with a fix and game plan. One way to look at it is I'm really getting to know my bone cracker.... Hope you all have a great night and I will be eating my humble pie! Ps- thanks for the information Upstairs! Thinking of adding one down the road but room is gonna be an issue. Have zero experience with a seal Rowe.
