Hola all and TGIF! I had a great Delts, Traps, & Forearms workout. My sitting dumbbell presses went very well. I even got a half dozen reps with the 80s. It still doesn’t make up for Wednesday’s debacle, but it made me happier today. I’ve really had problems with my shoulders since I restarted working out once again a couple years ago. I guess I’ll be working out my Arms tomorrow along with some yard work. Take care all!

Hi all - Body Pump again today. This time I failed on the shoulder track at the very end of the class. My shoulders, triceps and biceps are my weakest spots, and I have an old shoulder injury from when I was actively Dragon Boat racing. So Upstairs, the shoulder thing is something we have in common.

MM, I am really enjoying following your progress on this transformation journey. I think folks who make these commitments are amazing. Keep us posted on the stats, the diet, all of it is quite interesting.

LJ, way to go on the weigh-in!

After Pump, I went for a float session - I generally like doing one every couple of weeks. I feel incredibly refreshed and spiritually "tuned in" after an hour in a float tank. It helps my physical recovery too.

Have a great weekend, all.

Lizajane- great job on losing another 2 pounds!

MissP- the float tank sounds relaxing.

Yesterday I went to swim class and then did some laps. I love the water!!

MissP, we have a float center in town and my wife loves going there. We've also bought sessions for friends as presents.

I got the weekend started with a solid workout at the gym so yesterday's decision to rest is looking quite good right now.

It's 10:15am and 90F (32.2C) and it's on its way to 99F (37.2C). I want to go hiking but it's too damn hot.

Getting to the gym will be horrible.

I think I will either sit by the air conditioner or go to a movie by myself. The movie will be called "Don't Care What's Playing as Long as the Theater is Air Conditioned."

Hey all,

Back into the posting mode here...fortunately I haven't let up in the gym and even have found more opportunity to ratchet up the intensity-especially with all of the summer heat here in the central US (I'm feelin' ya, Mindful).

Chest, shoulders and tri's today. Yeah, I haven't (yet) factored delts into their own workout and still am pondering whether it's going to avail me much to have that along with traps and forearms. Size hasn't been the focus this summer--only strength and definition and I've hit both in spades. I had *several* people over the last week tell me that they can see that I've lost weight just by looking at my face....VERY happy place for yours truly, as I didn't think I'd get past the phase of 10 lbs ago. Funny thing is I haven't at all increased my cardio; the heat may have caused more water weight to be perspired out. I'm going to go with the narrative of increased intensity in the weight room and visible results

6x flat bench press
4x decline dumbell fly
3x dips
6x standing straight bar shoulder press
6x lateral dumbell raise
4x rear delt cable raise
5x skull crusher
4x rope tricep pulldown
4x leg lift
3x planks
3x oblique apparatus
15' stationary bike

Love, love, LOVE Saturdays at our facility. Never too busy and not rushed at all.

Starting to spec out another gym that has a better selection of free weights; the one I'm at now (Planet Fitness) definitely has an upper bounds with regards to barbell weights for curls, etc and dumbell weights and I've hit the max on the latter with regards to lat upright rows and dumbell flyes.

Keep training y'all...

T.

Just wondering where ya been Toddman.

Good on ya!

I have not heard good things about Planet Fitness in LA. I always go for the least crowded option.

Hola all! Hey, good to see you TheToddman! Glad to hear you’re still doing well! I guess you should feel good about yourself if you’re outgrowing your gym!
So today was my Arms day. I never seem to thinks it’s that hard a workout until I start doing it again, of course. My triceps dips went easier today and I’m starting to add a little weight to them. I may wind up buying a better dip station tho. The one I have has really thin bars to hold onto and the whole thing shakes. Same problem as when I try doing pull-ups. Tomorrow’s routine is Legs.

Oh, I read up on the float pod thing as I hadn’t heard of them. A local place here has them. They say they dissolve a 1,000lbs of salt in each 10” deep pod somehow or another. Kinda neat!

Good evening all. 45 minutes in the lap pool this morning. Making progress. Can definitely feel it in my arms and shoulders tonight. Plan to get out for an early 2.5 mile run in the morning, before the heat arrives. My running is starting to improve as well. Really feeling optimistic.

Miss P, I ordered the 'Younger Next Year' book you recommended from Amazon and it arrived in the mail today. Already a few chapters in and can tell I'm going to enjoy it. More positive reinforcement for the lifestyle changes that I'm implementing.

ClearPath, I'm so glad you are enjoying that book. Sadly, Dr Harry, the physician co-author, passed away in his fifties from prostate cancer. But Chris Crowley is still going strong at 84 and looks in amazing shape.

I did my first run back today after 9 weeks off with my broken foot. It was wet and I went at a gingerly pace, but I did 6 km and was grinning like a madwoman all the way. I got a lot of "good morning" greetings from folks out running and walking - I think because I looked so stupidly happy.

If anyone else does a float, let me know what you think!

Gawd, those endorphins are still bouncing around in my system a couple hours after my run. I feel high, but it's all healthy!

Nice to see you posting here again Toddman and, more importantly, I'm glad all is well.

Off to bed soon and I will be at the gym tomorrow around 9:30 AM.

One anecdote about sensory deprivation salt tanks. As I wrote before my wife loves them and the people we've given gift certificates to we thought would also and they all have. About 30 years ago my SIL bought me and my wife sessions as a present, our first experience. There was a massage involved also, which I was fine with, but after a while in the tank I got bored and then made the HUGE mistake of taking my salty hand and rubbing my eye. Relaxation after that was non existent and I think I left more agitated than when I entered. My wife, who can fall asleep anywhere, thoroughly enjoyed experience and came away feeling very refreshed. As Sly and the Family Stone sang about 40 years ago, different strokes for different folks.

On a more serious note, we were at a pool party/BBQ with some long time friends. Everyone was between 55 and 65 except for my kids and for the 6 other people from my generation aside from me and my wife they were all very over weight with most, not all, I'm sure being what would clinically considered obese. While we had a very fine time socially it was sad to watch as some good friends had trouble navigating simple tasks. Take away, be mindful of diet and keep on exercising.

Good night to all.

Ms P..so happy for you and the running! I would love to try floating! Sounds like heaven. I love the water. I think I mentioned I am a scuba diver. I am missing it so much. I LOVE being in the water. I hate living in this land locked area. 6 years until we retire in Marathon Key... Gonna Change: part of my renewed focus on my health is make sure I am in tip top shape for retirement. Saving all our money to retire early so we can enjoy diving and all the other outdoor things we love in the keys would be a complete bomb if we were out of shape. Life in a bathing suit carrying extra weight is so uncomfortable too!!
Today it finally cooled down so I went for a long walk between the world cup matches. 4.5 miles in my very hilly neighborhood. It felt amazing to be outdoors in non humid weather, temperature in mid 80's and a breeze! I decided that was enough today. Did some deep stretching while I watched the games. I felt like my body needed a recovery day. My long cardio's have given me some twinges in the knees, hips and feet. They feel much better this evening.

Intermittent fasting is going well. I am eating within an 8 hour window, keeping it low carb and it really is helping me get control of my diet without feeling like I am suffering all day.

I dive too LJ. Spoiled. The list is Kauai, Cozumel (twice), Palau, and the Great Barrier Reef. I need to return to it, it's the other fitness goal aside from the Nepal trek. Palau was AMAZING. I think my life's peak experience was off Peleliu Point at 100 feet drifting through a school of 200 10' oceanic white tipped sharks in a 4+ knot current.

Hey guys!

Mindful you've really got me thinking now about bucket list things...my 19 year old is currently spending a month in Peru and she just hiked the Inca trail to Macchu picchu. This kid has paid for this trip herself working at starbucks, saving money and getting into 3 UC's. My oldest just graduated from Davis with electrical engineering....she is very smart and works hard and is a great coder if anyone wants to hire her!!! Looking for work now.

I think I'd be terrified diving. It sounds incredible but just being that far down would scare the living **** out of me. I'd love to do more hiking and maybe some lower, easy climbing. The risky stuff just isn't my thing!

I'm taking youngest to the gym to do some bouldering and bodyweight stuff with the bar and pegboard today, then hitting a food addicts anonymous meeting for my eating problems which are interfering with everything now, including crossfit, health and quality of life. I'm super strong in Cross fit but I can't do much cardio at all because of weight gain.

I hope to get a sponsor at my fa meeting today, wish me luck!!

MM and Stayingsassy,
I love to dive but deep depth scares me. My husband says I am crazy and keeps encouraging me to take the deep diving specialty. I have NO interest. I have my night diver specialty.

My first dive, before certification even, was in Belize Ambergis Caye. My husband told me I was spoiled for life. I saw so much in 30 ft of water. More than he had seen in his 50 dives on my first one!. It was a horse shoe shaped reef dense with marine life and color from the surface to the bottom. Follow one way, turn and follow back...no navigating issues either. No wetsuit needed! Visibility was 80 feet! So depth is not always an issue Staying Sassy!
I have 60 dives under my belt now. Deepest is 65 ft in Tobermory. COLD Great Lakes dive. Amazing clarity beyond salt waters there. Seeing the thermoclimes, rock ledges and ship wrecks amazing.
From murky cold quarries filled with planes, helicopters, busses and cars to warm keys diving in Florida. I have loved it all but I am afraid to go deeper than I feel confident that I can swim up to save myself. 65 feet felt like far enough! I am hoping to see the Giant Pacific Octopus on my vacation end of this month. My whole family dives now...Hubby, me and two teens. I have found when my fitness level is in a good place, the whole day is better. From carrying the equipment, managing possible surge sea sickness on the boat, knowing how to weight yourself, and managing breath control under the water!

Anyhow this is not a diving thread, so I will stop here. Not sure what I am doing for exercise today. Hubby leaves tomorrow for a week and a half, so I am hanging out with him and taking his lead.

Hola all! My weight lifting routine today was Legs. Good workout. Next time I’ll add some weight onto the old barbell squats and see if I can’t make my legs grow. Tomorrow’s routine is Chest. I hope it goes better than last time! S’all for now!

Good to see you Toddman.

Sassy, I hope you enjoy FA. I've been OA for years so I know the 12 Steps work. Been at a healthy weight, eating sanely and living the dream for 12 1/2 years now.

Spin at 11am and "something" at 3p. I know I'm repeating myself, but if it's warm enough, an outdoor exercise session. If not, legs & butt at the gym.
