Lizajane, go for it! And don't give a hoot what others think because they were all there once and you also may be pleasantly surprised by the support other class members give you.

Woohoo LJ! I wish I could come with you! GC is so right, don't be at all concerned about others. Going to a quieter class is a good idea, as the instructor may be able to give you a little more direction.

Tell us how it goes.

Ringo, I had my wisdom teeth out 25 years ago. Earlier this year, my dentist found that a fragment of tooth had been left in my gum, and was surfacing and irritating the tissue. It had been causing minor swelling on and off for a few months, in fact. They removed it under local anaesthetic. I'm sure your dentist knows what she's doing but it does sound surprising to me!!

I did not do the body pump class, but I intend to. Instead...I tried tabata with kettle ball at home! I saw tabata on the class calendar and googled. I was intrigued and there were links to workouts at home. I have a kettleball, 12 lbs. I downloaded an ap that would count down all the intervals required. It was supposed to be a 30 minute routine and nearing the end I was dying. This was one of the longest 30 minutes I have experienced. At the end, I discovered that was because I did a 50 minute work out. I thought the sets that were one side of the body were to be done one side at a time , not alternating, so I had added 20 minutes of extra sets. The final exercise was the Russian twist. I could not get through one set. I had to modify, then modify more. By set 4 I had to just change to bicycle crunches and did that for the 8 sets. Man! Soaked and beat. Later I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the "dreadmill" and 30 on the elliptical. Weigh in day tomorrow, fingers crossed.

GC and Ms P, I am going to do the body pump for sure. I just got side tracked when I read the tabata and I had all the tools sitting in front of me. In fact, now that I have done a home version, I will try that class too. If I am not too sore, I am going to do it tomorrow. Thanks for the push, I am truly going to do this.

Just got home from the gym with my 16 year old son. Upper body and core tonight. Nothing too crazy. Baby steps for this old man. Feels great though. 9:00 PM and time for bed. Recharge.

Way to go LizaJane! And a fellow Missourian, I might add. Way to represent!!!

Thanks Ms P, when my regular dentist gets back, I'll ask him to take a look just to make sure.

LJ, way to go! Try new things, keep it interesting.

No exercise yesterday due to my back is out of whack (walking funny, leaning to one side). Rode bike to work today. I just may leave work early cuz now both my back and my stomach are hurting. Yikes. I have an ice pack on my back.

Ringo- I hope you feel better soon. I am sorry to hear they left part of a needle in your gum. wow! that is crazy!

Lizajane- that sounds like one amazing workout you had today. I have seen a body pump class going on when I was at a different gym. I wasn't sure what it was until I googled it yesterday.

I did two classes at the gym today. Step aerobics & the class where everything is on the stability ball. So I worked out legs, arms, and abs. Now I am resting.

Great stuff Mid West!2 classes! Full steam ahead.
GC: I think I am strong enough now for real push ups. I admire people who can just keep on pumping them out.
Ringo: this back problem seems to be persisting. Is it a new problem or ongoing thing for you? I hope you are well soon
ClearPath: that is great! That is more than baby steps, that is a full workout. I go to the gym with my kids sometimes too! My son is also 16 and my daughter is 18,

Today...SORE...I really worked my hamstrings and my triceps with that tabata home workout! Picking things up from the floor is slow. Weigh in Friday: I was depressed at first. I thought I lost nothing. When I went to chart my progress, I realized I remembered my weight incorrectly: so I am down one more pound. Amazing how that one pound changed my mood. Workout today was all cardio. I cannot lift weights today. I ran a personal best time, 3miles on the treadmill. HOOT HOOT I had to push myself so hard. Then I walked/jogged/uphill/flat at slower speeds until 60 minutes was up. I completed my 1000 calorie goal using the lateral machine and bike. WIPED. BUT I feel like I have earned my Friday night pizza. I sit here munching on celery in anticipation. HAPPY FRIDAY WORKOUT WARRIORS!

Liza, 60 minutes on the dreadmill would put me in an insane asylum. Kudos to you! Pizza, I haven't made or eaten any in months, but that may end soon. My pizza stone is feeling unloved from lack of use. :-) Enjoy your well earned meal.

MW, those stability balls really add another dimension to exercises and I'm a fan of them.

Clearpath, enjoy these times. My kids are in their early to mid 20's. My son unfortunately is a couch potato, but my daughter is a gym rat and was an all county HS athlete in 2 sports. When she was 16, an age that kids are trying to find their independence and she was no different, which is totally normal, she asked me to train her for a half marathon. Regardless of whatever went on the evening before she and I would get up early to do our long run Sunday morning; the short runs we did separately. The training time on the road and running her first half with her are all memories I will never forget.

I wound up doing two thirty rep sets of pushups with a two minute break in between. In a little bit I'll be going on a two mile round trip walk with my wife and the exercise plan going forward is to be at the gym by about 8:45 AM tomorrow.

Hola all and TGIF! Worked out my Back today after I skipped yesterday. Going to be an ibuprofen night me thinks. My hands and shoulders are aching mightily. They’ll strengthen up eventually. Or maybe my arms will just pop off during my deadlifts one day. Tomorrow’s routine is Delts, Traps, & Forearms. Ugh.
Looks like everyone is really working hard this week! Those 1,000 calorie sessions will pay off LizaJane!
Sorry about your troublesome week, Ringo123. Sore back and dental problems!
Happy belated birthday, MindfulMan!
Good job starting up at the gym Clearpath64! Great job everyone else! S’all for now!

Came home from work tonight with hopes of getting out and mowing the yard after the sun went down, and it cooled to at least 90 degrees. Stretched out on the couch for couple of minutes and c-r-a-s-h-e-d. Four hours later, too late to mow, but wow, do I feel better. The work week definitely caught up with me, along with ramping up the exercise. My body said "enough is enough".

Soooo, hitting the gym shortly after they open tomorrow so I can spend about an hour in their lap pool before it starts getting crowded. I used to swim in high school, but it's all I can do now to go 50 meters without gasping for air. Love to swim, and it's a total body workout for sure. Tough to find available pool time though.

Totally agree with you Gonnachange. My oldest daughter is 27 and she was my athlete. Cross-country runner, back in the days when I could go 3-5 miles with her. Sports and exercise were a huge bonding thing for us, and I'm proud that she has maintained a healthy lifestyle as she's grown into a successful young woman.

Looking forward to an active, sober weekend. Best wishes to you all!

Clearpath, I sure get it. When I've been training hard or ramped things up, there have been times the body cries out for rest and recovery, usually in the form of sleep. I read somewhere that Ethiopian long distance runners sleep up to 16 hours a day when training!

Loving the dad and daughter stories too, GC and Clearpath.

Ringo, hope that back improves.

LJ, your Tabata story was hilarious. I think you have the makings of what one of my dear friends calls a Pump Princess, the gym-gal who is right up front in class in coordinated gym gear, loves to chat with the instructor and always has one eye on everyone else's weights (that's not me, that's not me...)

Midwest ... I have never done two classes in one day! That's impressive!

Pump day again today. I love weekend Pump because it's a longer class. I got through all the tracks this time because I made sure I ate properly the night before. There were two beginners in class and the instructor did a great job of taking them through things and looking after them during class. Part of why I like it is that there is a "community" feeling to it all. It can feel a little bit cliquey but I think like anything it's because the longer you've been doing it the better you know the names, the jargon and the history.

A test run tomorrow perhaps ... ? My first run back in 8 weeks. I dunno. Will report.

Wednesday was a session with Larkin the Sadistic Muscle Mary. We did eight thousand sets of eight hundred variations of leg presses with 8 tons of weights...all to failure. Then leg extensions and some other crap.

Shrink first (AMAZING session, but that's another thread), hiked Thursday. Fitbit says I burned 890 calories, took 1.5 hours, hiked 3 miles, average heart rate 118 bpm, max 161, 32 minutes in the target (over 135).

Larkin the Sadistic this morning. Back and chest. To failure. He would prefer it if I quaked in submission and vomited...I won't give him the satisfaction. Whimpered a bit in my car after tho. Went home, did some work, chores, etc. then went hiking. Similar to Wed, forgot fitbit but knocked 10 minutes off my time. Came home and soaked in the shower and watched my life pass before my eyes from fatigue. Larkin weighed me at the end of our session, I'm up to 175, have gained 5 pounds since our first session. My pants fit the same if not tighter, he's not sure but thinks it's water...he's going to repeat my measurements on Monday to be sure. I reminded him that I'm off keto now and he thinks it's also that my muscles are holding glycogen. They definitely feel pumped up and hard, so that makes total sense. Am thinking about starting a cycle of SARMS to boost the muscle gains. My sober friends from both rehabs came over for a pot luck for my birthday. Sarah made me flex my abs and kept feeling my obliques...apparently I have that hot "v" shape starting at my waist. Wrong team, but I dig the attention! We are going hiking in Griffith Park next weekend.

I'm going to eat 2 scoops of protein powder and a cup of homemade full fat Greek yogurt now. Grrr. Booyah.

It sounds like everyone is doing great this weekend.

MindfulMan- it sounds like those workouts with Larkin are starting to pay off!!

MissP- I am really happy you are back and doing so well. I hope the run goes well today!! Good job listening to your body and eating more for class.

Clearpath and Gonnachange- I think it is awesome how you bonded with your daughters through physical fitness.

Lizajane- you definitely earned that pizza!

Today I walked one mile, 15 minutes on elliptical, and 7 minutes on the stair master. So about 40 minutes of cardio....good enough for a Saturday!

Hola all! Delts, Traps, & Forearms were lengthily worked out this evening. I have got to speed up this routine. Too much rest between sets drags it out too long. At least my exercise sessions do help me sleep and get my frustrations out. I’m too tired most the day to get upset about anything! Tomorrow’s routine is Arms followed by some yard work. Take care all!

MM you are working hard! Your meal sounds like KETO to me.
Midwest good job mixing it up.
Ms P you are selling me on the PUMP...Monday is my plan. I hope to be healed by then.
Upstairs...I have the luxury of time right now but I will need to figure out how to speed things up when school is back in session. That means pushing harder and that is not one of my talents.

Still sore from tabata...I know where my lats are and exactly when I use them!
Circuit lifting my upper body followed 70 minutes on elliptical for 770 calories. Felt like a really good workout.

Ate too much for dinner My fitness pal says I still have calorie deficit if I stop now.

They are still very low carb, but not low enough to induce ketosis.

Worked shoulders today.

Did not go for my run today. Decided not to risk it. I have been flexing my left foot gently and still feeling a twinge, so I think another few days of rest from running might be in order.

MM, I love those oblique abs. Keep on keeping on. I can understand why Sarah was impressed. I dated a fellow once who loved to surf-ski (which is like sea kayaking), and he had that V look going for a while. Hmm, nice memories. Better leave that there.

LJ, no pressure on the Pump class, you'll find the right moment to start, I'm sure.

500 meters at the pool yesterday, but definitely not all at once. 50 meters, rest, another 50 meters, rest, and so on. But it was better than the previous time. Alternated freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke (no way can I butterfly). Didn't ingest nearly as much pool waters as the previous time either. Getting back to figuring out the breathing. Not as easy as I remember it. Really can feel it today. Forgot that I had some of these muscles. Hope to continue to make progress, and not rest after each lap. And look a little more graceful in the pool, so that the lifeguard doesn't have to keep an eye on me. I'm pretty sure that he's trying to figure out if I'm swimming, or just trying to avoid drowning. Okay, it's not quite that bad.

Steady rain outside this morning, so I'll reschedule my run until a little later. It will be a little cooler today after the storms move through, so that's a blessing after several days of 90+, with oppressive humidity.

Hope you are able to hit the pavement soon MissP.

Lot's of great inspiration here. Glad I found this thread. I'm way behind you guys, but will keep at it. At age 53, I'm not looking to reclaim any past glory (there really wasn't any), but I'd like to be the fittest version of me that I can be.
