Thanks all for the encouragement and support! Ringo, I do have a support group. Fortunately one of my best friends is in recovery and I have been going to AA meetings (although I identify with the tenets of Rational Recovery more). But it helps to be around other sober people.

Welcome Paige! It's great to have you join us here!

Pump yesterday which was another good class.

Feeling twingy from my run on the weekend but the foot is fine. Bought new running shoes yesterday from my favourite running store. I've been running in this same shoe model from Brooks for a year now and love them. It's my 3rd pair and I love not even having to try anything else - I just walk in, name my shoe size, and try them on to confirm.

Hola all! Today was my Delt, Traps, & Forearms routine. Long workout! It was storming outside all afternoon so I really didn’t have much else to do anyway. Tomorrow’s routine is Arms. S’all for now!

Upstairs- noticed a few pages back you mentioned your not quite to 400 for deadlifts and are doing a working set of 385 3x3s. I just moved up to a 385 3x3 working set and before I moved sets I did max and pulled 415 clean. Today I tried 385 for 3x3 and only got first set and half the second set done before that was all she wrote. Your are further along than me my friend and have zero doubt if I could clear 4bills, you would absolutely crush it!!!

Left work early as I have to prepare for my annual performance review. As part of that process I have to draw up my annual business plan. I dislike this process intensely. It feels fake, and there's so much that seems made up and contrived about it. Ugh.

I thought I'd make more headroom working on it at home.

At some point while working on my plan at home, I decided I needed some fresh air so I pulled on my (new) running shoes and went for a run. Managed 8 km which is OK, but I really had to push through that last kilometre. I am nowhere near the level of fitness I had 10 weeks ago much as I hate to admit it.

This is now a fight back to proper fitness.

Good morning all. Been a few days since I last checked in. Swimming is going well, though the fact that there is a 70-something gentleman two lanes over that is light years ahead of me is a little disconcerting. Little does he know it, but he's now my inspiration for improvement.

Running was going well until Sunday, when a recurring calf issue decided to show back up after mile 2. Nothing major, but I can't seem to rectify it. Minor annoyance begins above the achilles, but below the large calf muscle. Large is in relative terms when talking about my bird legs. Anyway, it starts with a twinge and then works its way up to the calf. Nothing I can do but stop and walk, as I've tried pushing through it in the past and it makes matters much worse. Have tried all kinds of stretching, muscle rolling, eating plenty of bananas (thinking it's a cramp), and hydration, but this annoyance just shows up. And just when I started making improvements with my distance. Taking a week off and will get back at it next Sunday.

Really making strides with my overall health, though I've noticed that the aches and pains stick around much longer than they did a few years ago. I guess that's natural at my age (53) and maybe it will improve as my fitness improves. Not giving up, that's for sure.

Miss P, we just finished up our performance review period at work, though we get to enjoy that misery twice a year. And, as you accurately state, it's mostly made up, contrived statements. Plus it takes up so much time when I have a million other things that need attention. Just one of those necessary evils I guess.

Welcome to all of the new folks since the last time I posted. What are you doing sitting down and reading this? Let's get moving people. These muscles aren't going to work out themselves!!!

Welcome Butcher.

GC, I love push-ups! (Your post from a couple days ago.)

Ms P, I know what you mean about ordering your Brooks shoes. When I was a runner, I went through a few pairs of a New Balance model.

A quick yet intense leg work out today at lunch time followed by 2/3 of the Zumba class.

Regarding running shoes, I'm brand agnostic. When I do find a model that I like I wear it and when it becomes last year's model a buy a few pairs because they become discounted and my experience has been that not all "upgrades" are such to me which means I'll have to put the effort into finding another pair of comfortable and compatible shoes. Obviously my strategy doesn't negate me having to go through the process at some point, but it pushes it into the future and it saves me money. And with my paucity of running lately even that's not an issue.

MissPerfumado- I bought my first pair of brooks a few months ago and after wearing them once the cushion on both of my shoes started wearing and tore. I complained to them and they sent me a new pair. It may just be the model. I still wear them but I find it strange!

35 minutes elliptical
20 minute walk

Tomorrow will be strength training and Friday I'll take the day off.

I have some feet issues and usually replace the factory insoles with Superfeet insoles. Huge improvement to my trail runners and hiking boots.

Actually Midwest now that you mention it, my Brooks shoes don't seem to last as long as the NBs I had previously. The last pair were starting to tear through the outsides of the toe box. I land with an outward rolling of the foot (oversupination) so the soles wear down in a particular pattern. I think I did about 300 km in that pair which is on the low side of when I should change, according to conventional wisdom. I'm now logging the kms on my shoes via Strava. It might force a change in shoe brand!

MissP, 300 km is very low to have to change running shoes so you may be well served by finding a more durable replacement.

Hi all.

for some reason I seem to have gotten myself into a two days of cross fit back to back pattern, then nothing until the next week. needs to change.

Diet is slipping...per usual. And my conditioning at cross fit going south again also though I found myself front squatting 115# up from 85, so that's improvement. I have to work tomorrow and I'm going to miss a deadlift work out which makes me terribly disappointed but I do have a bar with weights in the garage, and could totally go out there and DL to my hearts content after work.

considered paying for macrostax, as I know I need more diet guidance, but I don't know if the very high carb low-fat thing is for me, and I know that's how they run their macros.

I suspect the opposite is true, that I need to keto it up, but doing that without booze to get through is proving about as hard as it was to put the booze down!

Plan is for ONE more cross fit day this week! Come on sassy, one more day and you've hit that 3 a week target.

Hope all is well....

Good day today! I found my FitBit AND the charger (it’s a miracle!), got that going and took a 3.75 mile walk. It was an hour long walk. I also went to my gym and cancelled my ridiculously expensive membership for a new gym. I joined this new gym and added all three of my teenagers for just a little bit more than it cost just me to go to my previous gym! Yay! I am looking forward to working out with my kids.

My plan is to go to the gym tomorrow and start with weights.

Hope everyone is well!

Had the ultrasound.

It's definitely a hernia.

Will hear from doc some time tomorrow. The technician said they've seen a lot worse, so I can hopefully wait until September to get it fixed.

I may not be able to much, if any exercise, until 4-8 weeks after the actual surgery. Must figure SOMETHING out in the meantime. Definitely at least walking.

My stomach is off and I'm losing weight (and muscle) again. So I'm keto-ing.

GC, you may well be right. I also always wore them for my Pump classes but that shouldn't take that much out of them. Now that I'm logging the kms in them precisely, I should be able to decide next time around.

Sassy, keep it up! I hope you make it to that 3rd class a week.

Paige, your progress sounds excellent - that's huge.

MM, I'm really sorry to hear your continuing health challenges, you know you have my fullest sympathy as I can identify.

I did a Pump class today, full format 55 mins, all tracks. Very happy with the way I'm traveling at Pump currently and very happy with my physique at the moment. It's looking cut the way I like it - not too scrawny but still lean.

Happy for you, Miss P.

MM, good nutrition and walking may have to suffice for awhile. "This is temporary."

Paige, good for you (re, membership with your teens on it). What a cool way to bond.

Sassy, sure hope you come up with a regimen (food & exercise) that is achievable and sustainable. It may take having an open mind to exercise other than CF.

When the time came for me to no longer enjoy long distance running, I went though a type of withdrawal and sadness. When I fessed up to my ego being bruised and missing my identification as a runner, acceptance soon followed. I simply found other methods of exercise!

Something similar happened when I retired from the Army. I was no longer a Sergeant or a soldier. Losing that identity led me deeper into being first and foremost a child of God. No identity is better than that!

Yoga at noon. Zumba was a blast yesterday. Substitute teacher had us grinding and dancing like back up dancers for J-Lo. Would it be in poor taste to say I did the 'white girl version' of this dancing? There are parts of me that just don't move or gyrate.

I'm working on it, lol. I'm still at 375lbs 3x3. Thanks for the support though! I do enjoy that exercise, It feels like every part of you is under strain trying to get the bar up.

So I took yesterday off because I was in a bad mood along with a bad headache. I ran water into my fish pond yesterday morning and forgot to turn it off when I left for work. When I returned, half a dozen koi were floating around in a dead way. I guess the temp change or something shocked them to death. I suppose the survivors are calling their next of kin. Anyways, no excuses for my Arms workout this evening!

Sassy, a 40% increase in your front squat is HUGE! :-)

Paige, working out with your kids is great, especially when they're teenagers and are trying to define their independence. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience doing so when my kids were younger.

Mindful, bummer about the hernia, but from what your previously wrote I think the ultra sound only confirmed what was thought to be. Injuries suck and I hope that you can find some activities that you'll be able to do in addition to the walking you mentioned.

MissP, I don't know anything about Pump classes but I do know that running shoes aren't made to have a lot of lateral strength so if such movements are involved in your classes maybe that's why the shoes are wearing out so quickly. Just a thought.

Ringo, I totally empathize with you regarding not being able to do something that in some manner has always identified you, both with yourself and with other people. Coincidentally this morning I had a conversation that touched on this at the gym with a trainer who is prepping for his first marathon, one that I ran three times, so we chatted for a while about training and the course.

For me this morning was four rounds of:

TRX table top rows on one foot
Burpees
Weighted step ups
High plank wax on/wax offs
Db chest presses on an exercise ball
Bear crawls
One other exercise that I can't remember.
