I want to do a trail run sometime in late summer or fall. I live on the side of a small mountain with lots of uphill roads to practice on. Want to continue walking/jogging with my dog 3x week.

I want to be able to touch my toes! I have long legs and have never been able to do this. I've been getting close lately and with more daily stretching, I should be able to do it by June.

Improve my yoga. I tend to get discouraged quickly because I feel so weak and cant do any difficult poses, but I know practice makes perfect!

Hola all! So our first day of spring here was low 30ís and continual rain with snow expected in the morning. It will get nice someday!
I worked out my Biceps & Triceps today. My routine is a bit off as I was feeling ill yesterday, but I was much better today. Iíll be back on my regular four day split routine in a few days.
I donít have too many goals this Road to Summer. Continue to exercise regular. Get stronger, especially Back & Legs. Start working out my Abs. Cut back on the junk food. Iím hoping that will be enough so I slim down some without making too many changes to my diet.
Welcome to the thread GoodbyeEvan! Stretching is not fun, I hope you get down to your toes soon!
Enjoy your day off Ringo123! Take care all!

Beautiful day through 1pm today. I was on my way to hiking when I remembered some crap that absolutely had to be done today, so I had to miss. Shrink at 4, so no time for gym if I wanted to eat anything. GGGGRRR.

It's going to rain for the next three days, so I'll have to get some cardio at the gym tomorrow along with chest. Started playing around with the rowing machine. My roommate used to do crew and advised doing a 5 minute sprint. This would be good HIIT. Fat burn!

I do love the long days tho. My ideal life would be Northern Hemisphere from March 20 - September 20th and the Southern Hemisphere for the remainder. Endless summer.

'Sup crew...

MM--yeah, that rain's headed in our direction. Good times indeed When I think of endless summer I want to cue up Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys lol.

Upstairs--awesome that you're seeing strength gains man! I'm still varying my routines to break the ceiling that I've hit on a few movements. Can't give up..

Ringo--rest days are now deemed essential by yours truly. I approve of that concept I actually took one on Monday and don't regret it..

Welcome, Evan! Good folk here. Make yourself at home

Thanks Opi for the summer thread!

Chest, shoulders and tri's:

5x flat bench press
4x incline press
4x straight bar standing shoulder press
6x lateral dbl raise
3x front straight bar raise
4x skull crusher
3x cable pulldowns
3x 1' planks
4x leg lifts

Efficient routine today. Nothing spectacular--need to keep varying movements to get strength (esp. bench) moving in right direction.

Keep training y'all!

T.

After not being in the gym or doing any exercise of consequence for three days it felt great to be back at it this morning. We did four rounds of:

Riser sprints
Kb lateral lunges
Alternating forward lunges while doing a double heavy rope
TRX pullups
Rower
Box jumps
Ab rollouts

Although very light, the snow has started as predicted so I have some functional exercise in my future of clearing what will be around a foot of the white stuff. :burr:

Evan, I do yoga too. I'm a beginner. Not flexible from years of running and weight lifting being my thing. I still lift but get cardio thru other ways now.

Mindful, I love summer too. (And I have sun spots to prove it.) I'm north of you in Calif. and the rain is forecasted to end Sunday. Take care.

Todd, love it! 'we going to pump you up'.

GC, I'm about to have several days off my exercise regimen but no worries.

We're going to Las Vegas this Saturday for five days. We'll do lots of walking. Hoping for a hike in Red Rock Canyon.

Zumba at noon today.

I should have mentioned this in my previous post: Welcome goodbyeevan.

Ringo, have a great time in Las Vegas. Being active has always been such a big part of my life that when I'm relatively sedentary for a couple of days I feel like I'm out of my routine. That won't be an issue for a while; as I wrote earlier I was at the gym this AM and the snowfall predictions keep rising, now possibly up to 18 inches, and it's supposed to keep coming down through the night so even after I go out this evening to shovel I'll still have more to take care of tomorrow AM. My oh my, March has certainly come in like a lion and the lamb portion has not appeared.

Hola all and happy hump day! Today I only worked out my Back as I did Biceps yesterday. I felt strong for a change. The week since my last back workout must have paid dividends. I may return to my old routine of a 5 day split and not taking days off. Itíll mean shorter workouts and one more day between doing the same routine. Tomorrowís routine is Traps, Delts, & Forearms. And no snow to shovel, luckily. We only got a few inches that mostly melted. Take care all!

Greetings fellow fitness enthusiasts!

Had fun and a good cardio work out at Zumba yesterday. A short yet intense lift at 3p for delts, back and pecs. I get a kick when I see striations of muscle in my chest and delts during certain Zumba arm moves. And then I am humbled because I just don't have the "wind" to keep up.

Yoga at noon.

We did not get anything close to the predicted snowfall; the consensus bottom of the range for my town was a foot and we probably got about 8 inches. I'm not complaining by any means.

The whole family went out around 6 PM yesterday to shovel and clear cars and I spent about another hour this morning cleaning the cars and what came down on the walks after we previously shoveled. After a short break I went to the gym for 60 minutes that was four rounds of:

Riser sprints
Kb deadlifts
Ball planks
Db floor chest presses
Heavy ropes
TRX upright rows

After that it was two rounds of:

Ab wheel rollouts
Bicycles

Safe to say I'm done exercising for the day with the exception of a short walk to dinner tonight with my wife to celebrate our anniversary.

Ugh. Blech.

Couldn't sleep last night, started with a sore throat and post-nasal drip. Woke up around 10am with a headache and dizzy. It felt like a hangover (don't worry, it wasn't).

Blech. Phooey.

It's pouring down rain.

I think I'll take another rest day, and live to fight another time.

Hola all! Delts, Traps, & Forearms were worked out today. Not a bad workout, but not as good as yesterday. My shoulders arenít getting as strong as they were last year. Could be that injury still having some effects or just age. Not like Iím going anywhere though. Iíll just keep at it or maybe try some alternative exercises for a change. Anywho, Legs are on for tomorrow.

I hope you feel better soon, MindfulMan!

Gonnachange, I may try those dumbbell floor presses. It seems like a short range of motion, but they might be fun.

Take care all!

Upstairs, the floor presses are a short range of motion with, I think the trade off between them and the more traditional methods, is that you can use more weight. Based on having done them a few times I think that the full engagement of certain muscles is different and if I had to choose between the two I would go with the bench variety and longer range of motion.

Exercise for the day is going to be a short run. For some reason I've been feeling some faint shin splints in my right shin; it's very disturbing because I haven't been doing much running and if it continues it could be a detriment to me upping my mileage and actually becoming a runner (jogger really) again. Stay tuned. :-)

GC & Mrs. GC, Happy anniversary!

Mindful, hope you get to feeling better.

Upstairs & GC, just about all my lifts are full range of motion. Good for you two to try different methods.

I started a slow motion (almost ten seconds each direction) dumbbell/barbell routine over a year ago. It's going ok, no injuries, nice definition. I had to reduce the pounds lifted going that slow and sometimes the number of reps are less than the typical "12".

Yoga yesterday was intense as all get out. At one point I thought I was going to throw up. I silently let out a few tears during the cool down.

As I am flying out tomorrow to Las Vegas, you won't see me posting regularly again til Mon 2 Apr. To keep my weight stable on vacation, I eat one main meal in a restaurant each day and a small healthy breakfast (or the other way around if breakfast or brunch is the main meal). And lots of walking. Maybe swimming if the pool is heated. Any other activity I do can't shared here! (wink, wink)

Enjoy your vacation Ringo123! And if you gain a little weight, it'll just give you something to work towards when you return!
About the 12 reps thing you mentioned. I had read once that twelve reps was commonly used for sets because they wanted people to put the muscles worked under tension for 45-60 seconds a set. So 4 seconds per rep for 12 reps put most people in that range. I generally ignore that for most my workouts of course.

Thanks Ringo about my anniversary. Years ago I dabbled with a slow motion full range regimen, but the sequence was closer to 4-5 seconds on each the positive and negative. Have a great time in Vegas!
