Hola all! Weíre about one month into the Road to Spring! I donít know about the rest of you, but this last month seems like five years to me. Iím starting to see some problem areas in myself, as TheToddman said. I havenít weighed myself in a couple months now, so I guess Iíll do so today and see where I want to be by spring. Once I get over the shock, that is!

So today I did Back & Biceps. For whatever reasons Iíve been feeling stronger in the gym. I donít want to jinx anything by increasing the weights too fast though. I paid for that in a big way last year. I hope everyone is having a good, sober weekend so far!

Leg day cut short. Got a text from. AMEX on a suspicious charge. Went to get my card, locker broken into and backpack missing including wallet and my last car key, which will cost $500 to replace.

The good news was that it didnt trigger an urge to drink!

Hate to hear that MM.

Glad to hear that you had such a positive takeaway though. Stay strong brother!

ON EDIT:
I gotta say, I've had some pretty similar adverse situations (mostly on the work front that weren't monetary...yet I suppose) very recently and I've kinda marveled at how I wouldn't have the cravings as a result. One day this week I had a triggering thought but was able to recognize it straight away. I don't know whether or not to credit rehab and I reckon I don't care. I just am glad that I (we) can share a sober victory with another alcoholic who suffers.

You did man, and for that...thanks

T.

That sucks, MindfulMan. Is the gym that crowded where they canít figure out who did it? Most have sign in sheets. Eh you know all this I reckon. Anyways, sorry to hear that happened

Dang. I'm sorry mindful! I hope you managed to finish out all the calls...had to do that one too many times, once in disney land which wasn't fun at all. Take care.

At home. Had to talk myself on to the train, as I lost both my transit card and all my cash. On the train I realized I couldn’t Uber home because I’d cancelled all of my credit cards. Fortunately I still had my phone and had the roomies/tenants pick me up and front me some cash..

When I was drinking before my sober journey I would have worked myself into an anxious and angry frenzy, and started straight vodka as soon as I walked in the door. I remained oddly calm while dealing with this, anxiety and anger would do nothing to solve the problem. It’s not just the not drinking, I have really done a lot of work on myself along with getting sober. I managed to be serene, courageous and wise!

Having a drink didn’t even enter my mind. I didn’t even think about it until I posted on here, it was like Wow, I didn’t want to drink. That was my first thought, and it wasn’t remotely a craving.

Things are looking up. I checked one last place, and Lo and behold, the spare car key I thought I had lost was there! $500 I don’t need to spend!

Will try and finish my leg workout tomorrow. Thanks for all of your kind words and encouragement.

Hugs, MM ~ That really sucks! And you have such a positive outlook on it. Glad you at least found your key.....

Well I let my AV sneak in a few days ago, first by skipping the gym thinking "I'll just wait till after the new year crowds thin out" ~ then I was off work Friday so Thursday night I slipped. I made myself get to the gym yesterday for some light cardio. Didn't break much of a sweat but I have to get back into it somehow.

Great job everyone!

Mindful, I'm glad you found your spare key, but the overall situation really stinks. Although not nearly the majority, there are clearly some A-1 A$$holes.

Upstairs, slow and steady wins the race. We're in this for the long haul and injury prevention, in my book, is a high priority.

Purpl, good for you for getting right back at it.

After probably not running more than 10 miles in the past year, working out yesterday, dancing last night, and working out again this morning it would have been entirely unreasonable to expect great numbers for my run after the gym. Great numbers, however, wasn't the point. Putting everything in perspective, I just wanted to complete a fairly hilly (uphill on the way back) 1.5 miles as best I could, pace be damned, and not get injured. All objectives were accomplished so I'm putting the run in the "Win" category. My next scheduled run is Tuesday.

At the gym I did five rounds of:

Pushups
Heavy rope fun
TRX supermans
Mountain climbers
Rower
Bosu ball db squat holds
Kb swings

I brought my running gear to the gym and after changing went on my little jaunt.

Yo people...

Mindful, so glad you found a spare, man. Hope the banks get you replacement card(s) soon. I'm pretty sure Amex will get you one overnighted.

Totally cool workout today. Lats, biceps and cardio. What made this workout so awesome was not the intensity (which was there) but the fact that my daughter worked out with me and I got to share some of my routine. She really is inspired by it and wants to continue. She's my firstborn and also coming out of a recent cycle of addiction as well. Not to disparage or trivialize other factors in recovery, but I can say honestly that my regime has been totally critical for me staying sober. I believe that she, too can leverage the gift of fitness in a likewise manner.

So very positive day.

Encouraged to hear you guys are hanging in there and moving forward down the road

Hey all! It was Traps, Shoulders, & Forearms today. Great workout. Keeping the dumbbells in front of you for delt lat raises is definitely the way to go. I tried a rear delt exercise using the rope pulley thing that really works as well. YouTube has become my personal trainer.

Another thing I noticed today was I have been doing my deadlifts & shrugs with the trap bar using a neutral grip for the last year no problem. I tried doing shrugs using a regular barbell in front of me and my grip would fail using much lighter weight. Surprising turning your wrists in 90 degrees would affect my grip strength so. More for me to work on! Legs are to be done tomorrow. I hope everyone had a nice weekend! It was like spring here today.

Hey Upstairs-

Got up to 72 here in NE OK today. Pretty amazing. That'll change tomorrow though

Delts are a serious area of attention for me. I've worked with frontal, lateral and rear lateral dumbell raises to emphasize different parts of the muscle group. My focus is trying to increase width (a symmetry thing) and as a result I'm doing a *lot* of lateral raises...there's some growth but I think I've hit the proverbial ceiling with those. Sounds like you've found a treasure trove of info from YouTube; you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Toddman, I agree. Without my fitness routine and making fitness a priority, I would not still be sober today. Its been critical for helping to elevate my perspective, my mood, and balancing out my brain chemicals. Its been my number one coping strategy.

Purp, a gym slip is a whole better than the other kind! Failure isn't falling down, it's staying down.

MM, glad also to hear how well you handled the situation.

No exercise over the weekend which is typical for me. I'm fairly certain I'll get plenty of exercise the next few days and attend more meetings because as a US govt employee, I'm getting furloughed today.

Spin at 11am and legs/butt weight routine.

Todd, that's great that you daughter is embracing a healthier lifestyle and the two of you can share the experience.

Upstair, with the Bb deads have you tried using an alternating grip, meaning one overhand and one underhand, to stabilize the bar and increase the load you can handle? When I was lifting heavy (for me) originally the limiting factor was my grip. Besides using an alternating grip I bought pair of grippers and the two fixes solved my problem.

Ringo, based on headlines I just read the Senate has reached some sort of agreement which will likely pass so your furlough may not be very long. Of course, give the goings on anything can happen.

My workout today was very similar to last Monday's with the biggest difference being that most of the exercises were on a flat bench and not an incline one. Three rounds of:

Bb bench press
Db flyes
Bb skull crushers
Lat pulldowns
Push ups
Db bench rows

I'm continuing to feel weakness in my right shoulder; no pain just a general fatigue. It's much better than a week ago and hopefully will be a non issue very shortly.

Hola! TheToddman, some of the links from youtube I came across for shoulders were https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O2Jqi-LhEI for rear delts. And for side delts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xTz_ClLFgA

I'm in the same boat as TheToddman on shoulders. I'm having trouble adding mass onto the side and rear delts. Not for lack or trying! I think it's just that I don't have the movements down where I'm not using my traps or back instead.

Only DIY exercise today, but Day 4 on Keto, I'm pleased with that. No craving for the sweet stuff, that on it's own is priceless for me.

Wow, Upstairs---Mark Coles is a beast. Dude's forearms look like they're about to explode Anyway, a total travesty that he only has 6k subscribers...I became the latest one! He's totally spot on about the tendency for too much trapezius in the lateral delt movement. I'll hopefully incorporate those both into my chest/shoulders/triceps routine tomorrow. Thanks man

Elke, I didn't make it to day 4 of keto so I'm inspired by your progress. I've gotta give it another go here soon though

Ringo, sorry to hear about all the fallout from the shutdown. I won't digress into politics but it's frustrating and not surprising at the same time. Hang in there

Hope the rest of you guys are doing well today. I had my first 'rest day' in about three months. Gotta get the streak going again though

T.

Hola all! Today I worked out Legs. It would have gone easier if I hadnít strained something in my lower back while doing one of my new traps exercises yesterday. Nothing major, tho. Tomorrowís routine is Chest & Triceps.
Good job on the Keto diet Elke! I hope that works out for you. Btw, I finally got on the scales. Seems I have to lose about 20lbs just to get back under 200. If anyone thinks it isnít possible to gain weight while working out 90 minutes or so a day, it can be done!

Hi everyone. Two good runs this weekend and chest/triceps tonight.

On the diet front, I'm giving up peanut butter for a month. And I'm surprised by how much I crave it! I always gravitated to the sweet, creamy kind, so it's basically me eliminating more sugar.
