Lol Purps (that squat pic)! That sucks about your new schedule. i hope they at least are paying you well for it. Still, even a little bit a day is better than nothing!
Leg workout went well Saturday GC, thanks for asking. I have a long ways to go yet. Luckily I have nothing to do in the evenings anyway 😀

Thanks Upstairs ~ luckily the schedule is only for this week, and I have a mini-vacay coming up Thurs/Fri....excited but nervous. Hoping the hotel has a fitness center so I don't end up at the bar instead! AV is funny like that.....I'll need to stay close to SR

I've got confidence in you Purplrks, that you won't end up at the bar. Any fun stuff planned for your mini vacay?

GC, glad to see that your marathon training is coming together. As a 50 year old guy I can certainly appreciate a quick recovery. At present I fall into the category of Toby Keith's lyrics 'I ain't as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was.' (That's where the longer recovery part comes in! ) I'm fine with it.

Today's gym time was a long session devoted to back, biceps, and legs and I'm satisfied with the effort. FINALLY we have a couple sunny days in the forecast with lower humidity, so maybe a run after work one day this week, just because.

I hope everyone's weekend is wrapping up nicely.

Thanks Mark. I have a plan to work myself out of the training hole I'm in that based on personal history should have me prepared for the rigor of the race without getting injured during training. Of course that doesn't mean everything will go according to plan, but I'm optimistic that all will be okay.

Mind Dump Alert

Your quote of Toby Keith's lyrics rings true. I'm 59 and there's no way I could compete with the 40 year old version of myself, but that doesn't mean I'm supposed to curl up in a fetal position and give up. I'm still going to do the best I can with the biggest accommodation being that I'm more conservative in my approach due to a heightened priority on injury prevention. Today it's easier to get injured and it takes longer to recuperate. A true double whammy so, for example, when I'm asked what my one rep bench press max is I respond by saying I don't know because I don't train that way. IMHO training that way, in MY situation, goes against the injury prevention protocol that was previously mentioned.

So I go on my merry way reaping the mental and physical benefits of exercise striving to get better, but realizing that in some fashion it's like the quote from Alice in Wonderland, "My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place." Like you I'm fine with it and am thankful every time I step in the gym, lace up my running shoes, or jump on my bicycle that I'm able to do so.

[/End of mind dump]

I'll be at the gym this morning to work out with my trainer and report back later about the "fun" activities we did.

A fine day to all!

Hello all,

Welcome Blackbird.

Our great weather is gone for awhile--no outdoor workouts til it gets warm and sunny again. Just as well, I get more intensity in the gym.

Spin at 11am and then back at 3p for legs/butt. It's literally across the street from where I work!

Happy Monday all! I spilled a whole cup of coffee onto my thigh a few minutes ago. No idea what happened. I just kinda jolted my hands for some reason. So today can only get better!
It's Back day for me. So far my back has been cooperating with everything, which is good. One change I made this year is I only increase what I do by a little bit each session no matter how I feel. The hope is it gives my body time to adjust to the new work.

Going to get back to my Jazzercise. It is dance/aerobics. Was going 3X per week. Haven't been in a month. I'll start on Wed. I like to go Mon, Wed, Fri and I like to get at least 10K steps on Fitbit daily.

Happy Monday evening all. Today and tomorrow are rest days, but I've had that nice soreness going on to remind me of my efforts. I like it.

I have no idea what I could bench press either GC. I've learned how to train for the aesthetic I like and knowing my one rep bench press max isn't on the agenda. I really relate to your thought of going your merry way reaping the mental and physical benefits of exercise and striving to get better..... Indeed.

Welcome Sunshine--this thread is a great place for inspiration.

GC, I'm 59 also. I have a fantasy that on my 60th B.D. day, of going to the gym with a t-shirt that reads 'this is what 60 looks like". But then, that would be showing off...

Road my bike to a meeting last night. My weekly weigh-in this morning was disappointing in that I stayed the same and that's after fasting from dinner Sunday to dinner last night. I really shouldn't complain--I've been hovering around 122.6 lbs for quite awhile now (5' 2.5").

Rest day today. Hope to take the dog for a walk after work.

Hola all! Wonderful weather here as well! 80s and low humidity this week, which is about all you can ask for in the summers here. Back workout went well yesterday and so it's on to work out the shoulders today. Most my shoulder routines use relatively light weights except for the overhead presses. For whatever reasons, my shoulders seem to be lagging behind in terms of regaining my lost strength. I'll just work them out anyways, they're bound to get stronger eventually.
You know what I tell people that ask me what my max bench press is? I never get to answer! No one has ever asked me that. Take care all.

Regarding one rep max of any exercise, I've never trained that way, and the few times I have been asked it's been by people who don't lift.

Ringo, I don't like to draw attention to myself either, but I like the spirit of that t-shirt fantasy.

Although not planned, today may be a rest day. I've had and will continue to have a number of things to take care of and not enough time in between any of them to run and then make myself semi-presentable.

Enjoy your getaway Purplrks!

Today was a rest day and also my 1,000th day of sobriety. I'll be back in the gym tomorrow morning for my 1,001st day of sobriety.

Now it's 1001, Congrats Mark.

I'm feeling my leg/butt work-out from Monday more than usual. So glad I didn't do it outside. I used the Smith cage for at least 20 minutes straight with 3 different moves.

Today is spin at 11am and I'm on the fence about my usual 3p upper body lift as I have errands to run and still want to be home by 4p. Since tomorrow is a rest day, I could do those errands tomorrow after work.

Today is also a fast day--just something I'm experimenting with. No breakfast or lunch Monday and doing it again today--purposefully chose my work-out days to do the fast. I ready about the gains made by doing exercise before the meal that breaks the fast. I think it was on a blog called 'leangains'.

I don't plan to continue this M/W fast. Well, Mondays always, but not Wednesdays long term. My goal is twofold: to break my set point weight of 122 1/2 lbs and leaner, more muscular legs. Like I said earlier, at 59 yrs, I just may have to accept what is.

I ran 2.5 miles, no Garmin so no data. I'll be at the gym tomorrow and will run again on Friday with the distance starting with a 3.
