Happy Saturday gang.

I've never tried Epsom salts Frick. May give it a go for my lower back. Thanks for the tip.

Behappy, I think as long as we're striving for true progress then the rest will fall into place. Good on you for the run......ugly or not.

Today's workout was legs and upper chest and anterior shoulder. A little different mix felt good. I wish I could maintain the 'feel good' vibe I have when I walk out of the gym. The stresses of dealing with my 21 and 18 year olds is getting to me! Thank goodness for exercise and the release it provides this guy. Best coping mechanism I've discovered so far.

I think it's wonderful that you and your wife share in your fitness efforts. My wife isn't interested at all. But she probably wishes I enjoyed shopping and truth is I do enjoy the time to myself at the gym.

Mark, for most of the 35 years that I've known my wife she was rarely into anything that required sweating, but there's been a huge change in the last 5-6 years. Yoga, weight lifting, running, cycling. She's lost weight, gotten more flexible and stronger, and feels much better about herself so it's a win no matter what angle you look at it.

FWIW, to my wife's chagrin, I'm not a shopper either. Go, get what I'm after, and leave , which "somewhat different" than her style. :-)

That's quite a change GC. We had our 25 year anniversary in 2016, so who knows what may happen in the next 10. We're going to Laguna beach in March for my youngest daughter's spring break and there are some day hikes near there I'm interested in. I may pick a shorter one and see if she'll go with me.....test the waters so to speak. Had to go to New Zealand alone for this last hiking trip, but I'm fine with that too.

I managed a nice run this afternoon between rounds of the severe weather pattern we're in. Several twisters in the area of late and more projected.

I hope everyone's weekend is progressing nicely.

Mark, without knowing exactly where you live, I know your general part of the country has been experiencing some bad stuff. Stay safe.

Tomorrow, we're supposed to get rain, 50-60 mph wind gusts, and a high of about 42F. Sounds like a lovely day to take a walk in the park. NOT!

Regarding my wife's transformation, it's been a process with each style of exercising addressing something different. When you're 25 you can get away with a lot; not so much in your 50's. That she has embraced exercising as she has, it's made it easier for me to stay motivated and dedicated as well as it being more and more fun.

Me, my wife, and daughter were at the gym this morning for a lower level strength and stamina class than the one we took yesterday. Actually, that's not entirely accurate as it's up to the individual to make decisions about what weights to use as well as the pace of the exercises. The biggest difference between the two classes is that this one is geared to people who may need some additional instruction, but for the people that the trainer is familiar with there's very little latitude so the workout for the three Seltzers was challenging.

Regarding spouses who exercise or who don't exercise,
my husband doesn't but I knew that when we started dating. He's on his feet at work much of the time. I kinda use Al-Anon: he works his program and I work mine.

I'm fortunate that I get to work out 3 times a week for one hour on duty time. And then I go back to the gym (like 50 feet away) after work twice a week for weight lifting.

Whew! You all make me feel like a slacker. I'm still grinding out lifting weights a half hour or so plus riding the stationary bike a half hour every day. This strict diet I'm on is leaving me weaker and weaker. I'm going to stick it out regardless until I lose another 15lbs or so though.

Keep up the good work Upstairs. Sure you getting enough protein? Don't kid yourself--an hour a day is quite an accomplishment.

Upstairs, I agree with what Ringo wrote; slackers don't do one hour of exercise. Also, keep in mind that cutting your calories too low can be counter productive as your metabolism will slow down and there will be consequences both in loss of strength during your cutting period and subsequent weight gain once you return to what used to be a maintenance level of calories.

Yesterday got away from me, but I did make it to the gym for my normally scheduled session with my trainer

2 rounds of warm ups:

30 jumping jacks
20 squats
10 push ups

3 rounds of:

Kb goblet squats
Db reverse lunges
Db step ups
Incline crunches
Push ups
Planks

I think there was one more exercise in the mix, but I'm not sure and if so I can't remember it at the moment.

Today's going to be a semi rest day, but I'll still get about 20-30 minutes done at home.

From yesterday:
Spin instructor didn't show up (no one complains as the classes are free). Didn't matter as most of us stayed and did our own thing.
10 min warm up, peddling a good pace
15 min: alternating one minute sitting, one minute standing
10 min: alternating 30 seconds sitting, 30 second standing

Then at 3p, quick/intense leg work-out.

6:45p: Biked to OA meeting (not far, a few sprinkles)

Today is no exercise day.

Pretty much the same Wednesday routine:
Spin at 11am and upper body weights at 3pm.

Depending on the weather, I hope to pedal my bike tonight to a friend's house for Big Book study.

Had a sucky run last night, but finished. Hoping today's run will feel better.

Great job everyone!

Sucky runs.....suck, but kudos Bobbieka for finishing. Doing the "walk of shame" home is never any fun.

I'll be going to the gym for a 6:30 strength and stamina class with my daughter.

Hi everyone ... I've been away from this thread for a while, but I have been exercising. Mostly running.

I wrote out my half-marathon and marathon plans on a calendar. Helps that my calendar is an official Aussie Rules football calendar with my team on it - so I shouldn't get sick of looking at it. (Well, that is tragic, admittedly, but every little helps.)

I have a 12 week plan for the half marathon on 23 April, then a couple weeks off before I start an 18 week plan to a September marathon in Sydney. It officially kicks off on Monday

I've chosen plans that emphasise mileage because that seems to be the best way to pick up both the endurance and speed.

I see a 50k plan in here (go, Steve!) and way to go Bobbie on getting back into the runs after being sick. Sucky runs are still runs. It's been blowy down here and I've been running along the beach in really beautiful sunny weather.

Frick, I also started on the hot yoga last year and it's now my favourite way to do yoga.

Happy exercising everyone!

MissP, I'm looking forward to following your progress. No spring halfs for me, but I'm not reached a conclusion about a fall full.

My gym class was more challenging than normal for a Wednesday night and as the oldest person in attendance I showed those yungins how it's done. :-)

Nice to see you back MissP.

Ah yes, something satisfying about a gym session like that GC.

Today's gym time focus is chest and triceps. All weights today. Time to roll.....
