SoberP I would think running would be uncomfortable on your jaw. Sorry to hear about your surgery, but grateful, by the sounds of it, time will allow the jaw to mend. Tough time for you - happy you are working through it.

Have a safe drive JD and enjoy the Fall tree colors - they are beautiful here. :-)

I did get out for a short walk today, maybe 2 miles. Also took a truckload of stuff to the dump - loading and unloading are considered a bit of a work out for me.

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I try to run at least 2 miles a day, but with no real accountability, sometimes I skip. I'll post back after work when my miles are done. You guys are awesome.

Kkik5 - Just one step at a time. Each day, take a few more than the day before. Great job being here.

Welcome Bobbieka - glad you found us.

Today will be a NO exercise day, taking extra special care of myself, because I have a sore throat and an achy body - flu - like my kids had. It will pass.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Don't know why I didn't mention this sooner you guys may already know but if anyone has any lingering pain like I do in my knee & hand you can buy heat pads from a store thier normally around where the first aid stuff is they are brilliant inventions you just give the pad a good shake & stick it on & it heats for hours I'm using a small one snuggled under a glove for my hand & a big heat pad for my knee

It feels really nice too I think you can get them for back & abdominal pain too

And don't buy the brand name one the store brand is identical and does the same job for half the price x

Here's the thing with me at the moment -- I had jaw surgery back in January. As in, bones severed, and then reattached. Pretty major ordeal. So, I have been hesitant to pound the pavement (or even soft ground) ever since. The surgeon and Dr. Google say, oh, sure, go ahead and resume running, no worries. I am not so sure about that, lol. I am being extra cautious still at six months out.

The stationary bike at least gives me some decent cardio. Adequate cardio, hopefully. The digging makes me sweat, so that must be a good thing as well.

I do miss the meditative aspects of the running though, very much.
Good luck with your surgery recovery.

I agree with the advisability of refraining from running if your jaw bone has not fully healed.

I have not run very much this summer as a result of the heat, and have, instead, been hitting the elliptical machine pretty hard.

I also agree with what refer to as the meditative aspect of running.

I don't even carry an ipod with me.

Instead, I run and think about everything in my life which needs attention, because I get pulled in a lot of directions at work and at home.

The thinking aspect of running is as important as the physical exercise component.

It is the most cathartic exercise I have found.

When I go for a run, it is usually on tree-lined streets, bike paths or by the Tennessee river, all of which provide a very nice ambiance for running and thinking.

I am actually glad Autumn is here as it's my favorite time of year. Good time for healing and making needed changes. My goal is to workout more and take an art or yoga class. Blessed Be.

I need heat pads for my achy body, but not from exercise, from the flu.

When I run / walk I don't listen to anything in my ears - I just let my mind go where it might. I heard voices in my head for years; the doctors tried to get a diagnosis to help me. They did. My mind is NOW quiet, and SO now, I don't like a noise of any kind playing in my ears - it is rather strange I know. I would sooner read than listen to a video, which is how much I love the quietness.

As for exercise today, it will be getting up to make tea, soup, going to the bathroom, and take hot baths - my throat and body are sore from the flu. A lot of reading time for me. This flu will pass soon.

We are supposed to get a massive rain/snow storm later, so outside exercise wouldn't be great.

Have a fabulous Friday everyone!
