Weight Loss After Sovriety

I'm curious to hear about weight loss or gain after sobriety. Do people typically loose a lot of weight after removing alcohol from their diet, or do they replace it with more food.

I pretty much replaced food with alcohol and lost weight even though I was already slim. Now I'm sober, just getting back into a routine, recognising hunger and eating regularly is difficult! So I guess I'm trying to replace alcohol with food, in a healthy way.

I've replaced alcohol with food, particular fatty comfort foods, and gained almost 20 lbs. I'm starting to journal everything I eat, and keeping my mind and body active. So, I'm certain the weight will melt off. I'm sober though.

I used to drink everyday and eat like it was going out of style. In May 2013 I was at my heaviest At 228 lbs. I started to drink less(well, I'd quit for a week or 2, then relapse for a day or so. It wasn't intentional/planned "cutting back".). I would lose some weight here and there. About 10-15 pounds. Ever since I came back from inpatient rehab in February of this year, I made an honest attempt at eating healthy and also just introduced exercise back into my life. I am currently 195 lbs.

Wasn't easy for me though. Like people have said, I replaced junk food for alcohol too in the past. In fact, even with my last binges and benders, I would bargain myself into getting off a bender by giving myself permission to eat whatever I wanted. Sometimes it was hard to break that cycle with the food! But then I would get motivation to get back into the habit of being healthy.

Back in 2011 I was sober for 4 months and lost 51 pounds. Ate good . never hungry just didn't drink. I made a a 1/2 a**ed attempt at excersice. I may have helped a little. I've since relapsed. Put it all back on plus more.
