Shotgun, Heaters!
Hope you all had a joyful Thanksgiving holiday, if you celebrate it.
I am pleased to say that my tribute to my healthy eating intentions was to skip dessert.
That doesn't mean I wistfully declined to eat the traditional pumpkin pie, it means that I actually did not want it. I was satisfied - without being stuffed - by eating moderate portions of turkey, potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, and a spoonful of cranberry sauce.

3 Avocado's , 500g cherry tomatoes , fresh ground pepper :)

Three oranges .

Cod in batter for dinner 400g and spinach 200g … Yummy !

hope everyone is doing ok , m

So wife, baby and I got pizza today. It was Chicago style and sooooooo good. So good. So good. So good. I managed to stick to four pieces, which is kinda amazing (although last week it was three pieces but that was cuz we ran out). Four pieces probably sounds like a lot to you guys, but when it comes to pizza I frequently have no bottom.

Anyway...we ordered too much and there was extra left over. We took it home. This may sound mean but it wasn't really - I told my wife she had till tonight to eat what she wants of the left overs, and then I will throw it out. Here is the thing (and why its not mean), I know exactly what will happen, it will sit there, it will be about 11pm, I will give in and eat all that's there and then it will make me sick. So, it needs to be eaten or gone by then.

So I just got done with raw ice cream.

Ghostly 11-29-2013 10:37 PM

I ate the pizza. :headbange

mecanix 11-30-2013 05:07 AM

Hey Ghosty ,
You ate the pizza . what you going to do tomorrow though ? Maybe commit to a few healthy days now ..
For me once i start having something like pizza i find i end up eating mountains of rubbish .. so maybe being strict for a few days now will help keep a healthy balance ..

I know for me i revet back to bananas , tangerines , red grapes , omelette with mushrooms for dinner … It's my "safety" meal .

When I overeat, I just tell myself that I'm revving up my metabolism. ;)

Hey guys and gals....

Been living large in Louisiana.....lots of great food all week, but even my DH said " I gotta get back to Paleo".... That's a first! I think I remember dragging him, kicking and screaming, into healthy eating.

I've nothing earth shattering to report with my eating....typical Thanksgiving stuff....not feeling terrible about it, because I know everything gets back to 'normal' Monday. This was the first Thanksgiving literally no one in my family was drinking....not a drop...and they weren't abstaining just because of me . It was very relaxing :)

We have gigantic satsuma trees at our camp in the country, with enough satsumas to feed half of America. Satsumas are my favorite fruit. I'm thinking of trying to make a smoothie out of them......anyone ever tried that?

larrylive 11-30-2013 08:50 PM

Wow! Y'all talk more than you eat.

But.....white chocolate bread pudding...please tell me more.
I am a fan (as in fanatic) of/about bread pudding. Not that I eat a lot of it, but, like other non-food edibles, one is too many and a thousand is never enough. Which is why I don't keep candy or other junk food in the house. Not to mention every package is single serving size, no matter what the label says. A man's got to no his limitations.

Be Well,

mecanix 12-01-2013 01:27 AM

Hey LDT ,
I find satsuma juice nicer than orange juice , you can only get it occasionally here though . A whole big place filled with satsumas sounds like paradise to me . They are so bright and orange they are just asking to be spotted and eaten in nature .

Hey Larry.....I have never been a bread fanatic....could always easily pass on great bread at restaurants and take or leave sandwiches ...but I must tell you that the white chocolate bread pudding that my daughter made for Thanksgiving was KILLER!!! I hurt myself on was that good..... And hey, are you saying GHOSTLY talks too much???? :lmao

Mecanix.....I wish I could share some of our satsumas with you, then. I did just what you suggested and picked and ate them immediately. They were naturally cold from the freezing temps outside. I will definitely juice them now.

Ghostly 12-01-2013 04:54 PM

Larry - You should have seen it when this Thread was really active.

Good advice Mecanix.

Nice try Dreamr. :)

Wow, don't think I've ever had bread pudding. Sounds good.

I did a lot of cooking this weekend. Made some Paleo pancakes that seemed to have turned out better than ever. Made cauliflower fried rice with veggies. Right now cooking chicken breaded with coconut flour and wrapped in bacon on cut up yams. Also have some pork roast in the slow cooker.

Also decided to make almond butter. I made it once before and it was a pain in the azz, and I didn't plan on doing it again. However we're running low and its so expensive so decided to see how it turned out in the Ninja. Well it turned out ok, but the Ninja stopped running towards the end. Thought I had burnt it out, but once it cooled down it worked again. So not sure if I'll make it again.

LDT 12-02-2013 05:29 AM

How did you make the almond butter, Ghost? I've accidentally almost made some a couple of times, while making almond flour, but never finished it off. My H doesn't like it, but before I sort of suspected I was allergic to raw almonds, I actually liked it. Your chicken in yams dish sounds really good. Tell me exactly how you make your cauliflower rice. I have cauliflower frozen right you think it would it be too mushy to rice when thawed?

Back on the food wagon today, folks..... Green smoothie, satsumas, fish......I'll probably also hit the gym since I'm taking a break from yoga.

Ghostly 12-02-2013 07:51 AM

Just take almonds and food process them until its creamy. Add in things like honey, salt, and other things to taste. A lot of people say they almost accidentally made it. I will tell you, in my experience, and the numerous recipes for it I've read, its not something you do without trying. Yes, if you grind up almonds too long they can become gummy, but you are still a long way off from the butter.

It takes about 15 minutes of chopping them up. In that time there will be smoke and the smell of something burning (I'm not exaggerating, and I've read this exact thing in multiple recipes). I did it so long with my Ninja that it got very hot and shut down and wouldn't work for about an hour. I wasn't even there yet, and would have like to of kept going for a couple minutes, and that was at 15 minutes. During this process you need to stop several times and scrape off the gunk that has accumulated on the sides, and put it back in the mix. So, IMHO, its actually not really that easy to make. I may do it again with my old processor that I don't really use now, but that has a single blade so its not great to make the butter.

For the cauliflower fried rice I cut off the heads of cauliflower. Food process them up till they're in rice size pieces and put them in a large pan with coconut oil. Here is the key that was taught to me, and that makes the "rice" so good - Cook it by itself until its brown. this will take quite a while and several flips, but it makes it so much better.

In a separate pan I cook chopped up veggies, whatever I want. Usually peppers, jalapeno, onions, carrots, broccoli...whatever. Then when the rice is done I add in the veggies. Then I scramble some eggs in and add in them.

I like the rice with meatballs or salmon, but sometimes eat it with chicken. With the right meat, it is so good. Plus I like that it ends up being a huge serving of veggies.

Glad you're back on the wagon! What will you do at the gym?

LDT 12-02-2013 10:26 AM

Well, I guess I'm sort of back on the wagon.....just now eating a chicken broth soup that has tiny little noodles in it.....noodles, as in pasta.

Thanks so much for the cauliflower tips....definitely will try that . I might pass on making almond butter though....sounds too labor intensive and since H won't eat it, I won't do it just for myself.

As to the gym.....I will do anything that is not weight bearing on my wrists. I really blew them out this fall, so I need to let them heal. My plan is to get back to spin class ( which I sort of hate, but oh we'll....) and there is a class that is a combination of Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga called 'Body Flow'....I talked to the teacher and she thinks my wrists will be ok....Beyond that, just treadmill.....oh, and walking my crazy dog...does that count?

mecanix 12-03-2013 11:31 AM

Had a fried breakfast with colleagues today . So not terribly healthy and had two slices of toast …

So back to healthy fish, fruit and veg for the rest of the week , it will keep me on track only 4 weeks to loose 9 lbs ! probably not going to make the full 3 st but will keep it going … my longer term target is 13 st

18 st 9 lbs today ,

Slow today. Did a fasted work out, broke it with a banana and pear, then later went out and had a lettuce wrapped burger and sweet potato fries, then had chicken/pork and cauliflower fried rice (left overs) and half a Paleo pancake with homemade almond butter, pure maple syrup and jelly, now debating on raw ice cream. :)

LDT 12-04-2013 04:42 AM

Hey Heaters!

Last night I cooked meatballs in cream of celery soup in the slow cooker and ate it over spaghetti squash. Steamed broccoli on the side. Tonight we are going to a Lebanese restaurant for dinner. Have my mind set on bacon wrapped figs!! :yeah::yeah: I forgot to tell y'all how I cooked my fish the other night.....I took a big piece of Steel Head Trout, surrounded it with fresh mushrooms, radishes, green onions, cauliflower, tiny carrots, and satsumas, seasoned it and baked it . It was delicious .

Green smoothie today before I hit the gym. I miss yoga :( .... However, my wrists do NOT!

Ghostly....I Accidentally fast frequently because I just get too busy and forget to eat. But when I do that I get massive headaches that will not go away once they start. How do you not get headaches with all your fasting? .....Oh, and p.s.....have you bought your little girl that pony for Christmas like I told you to do?

LDT 12-05-2013 08:17 PM

Hey guys !

For breakfast today...very small piece of leftover venison.....Lunch was sautéed shrimp and onions on Romaine lettuce ....Dinner was a turkey leg, green beans wrapped in bacon and fruit at a Renaissance dinner theater tonight. We ate everything with our hands, including the 1 ounce of bread pudding they served for dessert. .....Last night I had bacon wrapped figs....OMG! They were incredible. Must eat more :)

It's been kind of quiet here lately.....Holidays are sometimes hard. Hope everyone is OK!

Ghostly 12-05-2013 10:16 PM

Yummy LDT!

Today I fasted for about 14 hours and was starving. I happily went to a salad bar and got a big azz salad, that would filled me up, with no guilt, plus in a satisfying way.

Took it to work, took a few bites, got to the chicken and...gross! Something just not right with the chicken, the taste, the texture, not good. Ruined the whole thing. Dumped the whole salad in the garbage, grabbed my buddy and went for two huge slices of Chicago style pizza. Was pretty good.

Am pizzed cuz I get salads at that place a lot, so now its ruined...for a while at least.

Other than that only had some raw ice cream and a bowl of homemade trail mix.

Hope everyone is feeling ok!
