Coffee... we have a dry town next to us.... it was such a drag going into a main store and no alcohol section! I hated it. Now, after 4 months, I'm like - just looking at the alcohol aisle makes my stomach churn.

Nice work, as usual, Unc

Tres... what was the conference? Great job on the 8 miler also! I hiked three trails yesterday with hubby. I LOVE running trails... Stinks now that I'm getting my groove back it's getting colder so that I can't do that too much.

MCF.. Hope you can figure out something for exercise. It sure helps mentally and emotionally this time of year....

I have been sticking to my schedule! I KNOW, hard to believe, eh? I started with just two miles during the week last week... did three on Saturday. I have a schedule all mapped out for now until May when the Cleveland Marathon is. Slow and easy - yep, I can you saying that, Coffee
It seems to be easier running on an indoor track though and it's only 4 1/3 times around per mile. Not oval either - the track has a little bit of character. Not even running with music anymore. I would rather focus on breathing and form right now. Have a running gait analysis next month which should help me stay injury free also. Oh, and I just received my garmin foot pod in the mail on Friday. Used it Saturday... extremely accurate indoors! Didn't even need to calibrate it.

IP... use a scarf or better yet... motorcyclists use a fleece neck warmer that you can put up over your face so you'll be breathing in warmer air I used to have exercise-induced asthma... once my lungs got strong enough I was ok. Sometimes, tho I had to take an inhaler before I ran.

Hi Ghost, Tip, Geralt, Judy, Top, Piotr.... everyone else

This is the good stuff. Sounds fun and will make good lasting memories!
Nice workout too.

Yesterday for me was 3 sets of the following circuit for time:

95# Thrusters (15, 10, 7) (This is a squat that ends in overhead press)
Pushups (15, 10, 7) (pretty easy except when you stick them after thrusters)
Run 1/2 mile (1, 1, 1) (as fast as you can then right back to thrusters)

Unfortunately my timer got messed up but this was about a 17 minute, high intensity workout.

Now for today ?? .......................

I had decided that today would be a nice trail run through the woods. I was getting dressed for it but then remembered that it is deer season (rifle no less). Think I will stick to the roads for a few weeks. Don't want to end up strapped on the hood of someone's car! LOL
Sort of funny but also serioius. I like to hunt so I am not bashing that but be careful and visible out there if you get near hunting areas.

Did my 10K route again. Shaved 3:40 off of Thursday's time but still pretty slow.
There are some huge hills around here. Actually often referred to as mountains. I love them and think they add to my fitness but wow, do they slow me down! Looking forward to a flatter course at some point to get a true feel for how I am doing. As always though, I accomplished my goal of no injuries!

Have a great workout.

Happier, wow. You are kickin a! There are a few hills in FL...no mountains though. And I understand deer season! Not a good time to run with hunting going on.

IP, the conference was called Pure in Heart. Taught on self esteem, purity, making wise choices, etc. Talked a lot about peer pressure and keeping communication open with your daughter. I learned a lot. Lots of stuff applied to adults too. I'm so glad to be sober for her.

Another gorgeous morning in Toronto...had to get out on the bike again - quick 40k before work. Rode it like a time trial and really got a good workout in!

Those steps sound tough!

I signed up for a half marathon! OMG! Feb 10, 2013. No turning back now. I joined a group with a run coach..we met tonight and did a workout and went over the training. Looks like I will be doing more running in the next 12 weeks! I'm a little nervous, but glad to have a good support system.

It officially starts next week.

Right on Tres.
We're signing up for a 10k in March.
So....as soon as this term is done it's back on the program.
3k last night---it was intense! I ran really fast for some reason.
Going to try to squeeze some squash in in the next day or two.

Woo Hoo! Tres with the half and the training for it. Cool!

Nice two R4R and good steppin.

Nice work out Happier.

Nice heavy liftin Uncle.

Nice 3K InP.

Coffee - Been meaning to write that your walks are seriously very long!

I did some cleans. I usually walk a bit on some trails almost every day. Sometimes quite a bit of it. I normally don't write about it. Walked again today.

Not to be Mr. Downer...but I've been missing the drink a lot more lately. There was a post in the Alcoholics section from someone that really hit home with me. They had 15 months, and really wanted to drink. They wrote it was mainly the romanticism of it they missed the most. Totally get that. I have over two and a half years. Not ready to give that up.

A growing part of me though, really wants to just give in, in a huge huge huge binge. A full bottle of my 1.75 liter former friend over a weekend. Just let go, and make a total drunken, can barely stand, weekend of it.

That said, I could probably do it, and quit come Monday. I truly believe I could. However, then I would want to do another weekend, then another weekend...so on, and I'm back to drinking every day. No exercise. Slunking (not really a word, but I think it should be) into that life. So much of what I've accomplished gone.

Thing is. I'm stressed. I want that escape. That numbing. At least I had that before. As bad as things were...I had a way to just get away.

Ok...thanks for letting me vent. I'm fine and won't drink for now.

Ghostly, good job playing the tape through with those drinking thoughts and realizing it would only get worse if you were to start drinking again.

Geralt, are you okay?

Topspin, how's the exterior painting coming along?

R4R, good job running on the indoor track and repping out with the stairs.

Happier, good job with the thrusters, 10k route, med ball run.

Tres, good job signing up for the half marathon in Feb.

Tippingpoint, good job with the 40k bike ride before work.

Inparticular, good job with the 3k run and signing up for the 10k in March.

Tuesday evening workout: 7 minutes on stationary bike.
Partial deadlifts. Put boards and matts under weights about 4 inches high off of floor. 135 lbs x 5 reps, 225 x 5, 315 x 5, 365 x 5.
Stiff leg deadlifts. Weights on floor. 245 x 8.
Supersetted shoulder press, front/side/rear delt raises, barbell shrugs. Stretched out whole body for 15 min.

Ghost.... DON'T DO IT! That's the lie of it... do you know how many times I said, 'yeah, I can do it just this one weekend and quit on Monday'???? I quit on Monday, but then within a few days I was so totally back into the bottle I couldn't get out again. We are alcoholics, we can't drink. We don't WANT to drink. It wants us. Don't let it have you again. Sorry, had to say that.... I'm just concerned about you. Go see a doc - if you're that stressed see what they can do... just to get you over the hump and maybe start to learn how to de-stress. For now, that's what I'm doing. It's controlled by my doc (and now a psychiatrist). I know meds aren't the total answer, but they can help when you're trying to get to the root of what's eatin ya. And it doesn't have to be forever... all that for what it's worth. Thanks for writitng that and trusting us. Love ya.

Tres.... proud of you for signing up for the half. I believe in you and you can totally do it! Believe in yourself

You too, IP.... great for the 10k. It will be fun.

Did my 3 miles this morning... felt good.... getting faster 31:57. I'm ok with that for now.

Take care and keep kickin everyone.

Don't you dare Ghostly. It is scary to see you say you "truly believe" you could quit on Monday. You have to know how crazy that sounds. Don't let it eat away at you-I agree with R4R if you are feeling too stressed to deal reach out for help. Don't let it fester. Keep playing that tape through and think about how you would feel come the Monday.

Ghostly, thanks for you honesty. Sorry you are going through a tough stretch. I think you nailed it with the "next weekend, then next time, then next time, etc." I too believe you would quit on Monday, for a while, but try to remember how exhausting it is planning, thinking, trying to wait for and control that next planned binge. Just not physically or mentally healthy. If you are like me, the time between would just get shorter and shorter as well until we are right back where we were or worse.

Glad you are good right now, today. Stick with that. Maybe tomorrow or the next day will be better.

Killer workout today. Tore off a callous (pullups), scratched up my backside (setups on ground)...... and loved every minute of it all.
Workout is called "Barbara" in Crossfit and wow, is she tough!

5 sets of the following circuit (all body weight only)
20 pull ups
30 push ups
40 set ups
50 squats
Supposed to rest 3 minutes between each set. It took me an average of about 6:00 for each set before enjoying my 3 minute break. This is pretty slow but I am really glad to just be able to complete these workouts. Times will improve with practice and fitness.

Tres,
Congrats on signing up and prepping for the 1/2 marathon. I am truly excited for you! ENJOY IT!
Hope to do my first one sometime in spring of 2013 so keep us posted on your progress.

Hey all -

Still limited to exercise on the elliptical. But, I am making the most of the interval training mode and am working on 40-50 min sessions/5-6x week, plus some free weights, and core training. The most wonderful news is that I feel great....who knew that not having a horrendous guilt laden hangover everyday would be such a life-changer? Ghostly, don't do it (is there an echo in here?)!!!

I have signed the entire family up for our local Turkey Trot 8K....I miss my runs and can't wait!

Ghostly, hang in there sober. We are all here for you. Its not worth the aftermath that follows.

No workout for me today.
R4R, thanks for the encouraging words. I wonder if I am going to regret signing up for the race..
IP, your dogs nose is so cute!

Hi Happier, and Panacea. Hello all you other kickers.

Thank you for the courageous share Ghostly.

If you're working a recovery program of some kind, now is the time to lean on it. How have you made it this far?

If you aren't in a recovery program, maybe now is the time to redouble your efforts and get another weapon in your arsenal. I've really connected with AVRT...it's a very simple program that would be very helpful for you if you've made it this far on your own.

Or maybe you just spend some more time on the site...or buy a good book on addiction...anything to get you grounded and focused and disassociated from that addiction that is trying to convince you that a weekend of drinking won't be that big of a deal or that there will be anything at all romantic about it!

Give it some thought.
