Ran 5k again tonight. Felt really good, a nice pace throughout. I figured out that six laps around the field by my place is 5.1kms. It's working for me, I like the laps. But will do a different route next time to vary it up. My boyfriend saw me running and said my form's really improved. Yes!!!

Welcome Mizzuno! Yes pacing is so important.

Ghost- congrats on the Warrior Dash-there was one like it at Whistler this last weekend too, I heard it was also super crowded. Now you know for next year!

Nice workout Tres! I admire your ability to run and bike in the heat and humidity! I can't do it- I HATE running in the heat, I am such a wuss.

Piotr-congrats on the car! Have you been back to the gym? I dare you to TALK to one of those girls!

Geralt-enjoy the heat! We had a nice run of hot weather(a week or so, ha) it's cooled down again now. Wah. I hope we get another stab or two at summer before the rain starts again. Nooo!

TiG-nice PR!

Coffee-nice three miles!

R4R-Hope you get your run in.

InP- Great job on the run.

Knocked out 8 400 meter hill "sprints" at 5% incline on a treadmill. Averaged 8 mph. I have two hours of judo and bjj this evening.

Hope you all have a great day.

Mizzuno- I feel ya. I went and hit the base mud run trail for about four miles yesterday and got in my zone and painfully coasted through. Nothing better than getting outside and putting the work in surrounded by nature. It takes the work out of the workout. Have a great day.

Coffee - nice 3. Trying to find a balance between driving and walking. Did a nice long beach walk this evening, thought of taking the car and then walking but that sort of would mess my normal routine so decided against it. Glad I did so.

IP - I might just do the dare, hope to be able to write about it though

Mizzuno - nice run and workout.

navy - being outdoors is so refreshing. Nice run

Gym yesterday. 1,45 h. Elliptical, abs, arms and other stuff. Felt real good.

Having pains in my left shoulder for a few months now and finally my gym buddy coaxed me into getting a specialist massage. The nice lady says the pain comes from my neck muscles, too much sitting in front of the pc, and I need to change my sitting posture and generally loosen my tense neck and shoulder muscles. The massage was painful, hope it helps. Will try this for 2 weeks and see if its getting any better.

3 miles this afternoon nice and easy. 4 tonight. Same tomorrow.

Well, I decided to train for the trail marathon and do the local fun runs. What I learned from the 5k is it's a chance to run faster and let the guns loose which makes running slower not so bad. The combination of quicker fun runs and super easy longer runs seems to work out mentally, so there it is. I have a goal. Thanks goodness Next 5k is in 3 weeks, so I'll get some good miles before then.

Between the heat and the rain, I cant get a run in. I need to suck it up and join the gym that has the pool. I have just been holding off on spending that 30 bucks a month. I really hate the gym, I prefer to be outside.

Its been raining forever here!!! In the evenings anyway.

Glad to see everyone kickin it!

Sorry about the rain, Tres. What part of FL do you live in? The gym with a pool sounds like the way to go.

Miz and Navy... I prefer trail running. I have yet to get out to the mountain bike trail I like to run... soon though.

Well, my calves are now ready to be tried out again.... saucony's - not vibrams this time. But I've had a weird physical thing going on. Stiff neck that started Sunday evening and woke up nauseous this morning. Better now... so hopefully in the morning I can get back out there... it's supposed to be nice and cool.

Piotr... glad the massaging is working out the kinks. Maybe that's what I need also.... time will tell, I suppose.

Hey.... where has Top been??

Goodnight, friends.

Todayisgood, got a kick out of your manliness thing and then not being able to needlepoint. Also get a kick out of your avatar with that cow. Good job with the pr in the 5k.

Ghostly, way to go with the Warrior Dash.

Navy, good luck with your meet this weekend. If it helps, keep in mind Royce Gracie was 180 lbs back in the day and would beat anyone, including 350 pounders.

Tres, good job with the 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. Hope the rain goes away, but I'm also worried about you with that hurricane that might be headed toward your state. Stay safe.

Coffeenut, so used to affiliating you with the number 7. But 3 will do too. Certainly much better than 0 miles. Heck, even my short cardio sessions are better than 0 miles.

Mizzuno, welcome. Good job with that 65 min jog.

Inparticular, good job with that 5k around that field.

Piotr, that massage sounds nice. Even if it hurts a little, the body needs to be compressed.

R4R, where's Top? First the trees stole him from us. Then the boat stole him from us. Then I think those dolphins stole him from us. Seriously though, I hope he's doing well. Hope all is well with your stiff neck and nausea.

Geralt, good job with the core/ab workout.

Sunday morning drove to the track. Jogged/ran 4 - 400 meters in 1:47, 1:33, 1:41, 1:43, with about a 2 min walk between sets. Then came home and did 10 min on stationary bike to complete cardio session.

Tues evening workout: Jogged on tm for 6 min, working up to a fast jog for the last min.
Bench press: 135 lbs x 8 reps, 225 x 5, 315 x 2, 365 x 1. That's about my max right there. I might have 375-385 in me, but will probably reduce the poundages next week depending on how I feel.
V-bar lat pulldowns: 180 x 8 x 2 sets.
Barbell curls: 115 x 8.
Tricep pushdowns: 140 x 8.
Stretched out whole body for 15 min.

Uncle-Lol. Thanks for the inspiration.

Really4Real- Which saucony's are you running with? I have the Harrotori's (sp) and love them. I prefer those to my vibrams

Today's will be 10 500 meter sprints with a minute of rest between and then will hit the pool this afternoon to work the kinks out and relax my joints.

Hope you all have a great day.

Dear all,

I am from SR's "Class of July 2012" but am new to "Kicking Asphalt." My story: I have been in the habit of doing a different kind of gym workout each day of the week (taking care to cover aerobic capacity, flexibility, core, and balance, with some machine and dumbbell work). However, since joining SR, I am gaining motivation to incorporate more free weights into my training. I also need to learn more about injury prevention, given my interest in increasing exercise.

That's where I am for now. I look forward to the ideas and conversation here. Thank you.

Mel

I'm also new to being sober(32 days) and have been getting back into exercise for about 4 weeks. been doing 5-6days a week. 3-4 running/walking, two lifting weights. Need to lose about thirty lbs, and am starting to feel great.

Hi Needsassistance and Mel! Welcome!

Ran 5k tonight. I really like running at night! So nice and cool. I put a little light on my dog's collar and he runs around in the field as I go. It's a nice way to end the day.
