I love walking. Such a great time to think, reflect, etc. I've been doing it for years now and really enjoy it. I've tried on several occassions to add running but something in this old body always gives out. At least so far, I haven't quit trying yet! Also enjoy riding my bike. Recently moved to a very hilly/mountainous area which has added a whole new aspect to walking and biking!
Congrats on your healthy decision. Guess in my mind, no matter what else I try to add....good old walking never lets me down and seems to be a great way to improve health with minimal risk of injury. Keep it up!

Walking is a fantastic mode of getting from Point A to Point B as well as being relaxing and fine exercise. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to work and basically anywhere that I want to, living in the heart of the city. I probably walk 2 miles a day just in my general routine. Certainly has helped with losing weight and regaining lung function after years of smoking....cough wheeze. Plus, the Vitamin D does a body good. After a while, if you're eating right, you'll just have so much pent up energy that the walking turns to running and sprinting. Found myself sprinting through the park on Saturday at 7AM, JUST because I had to release some energy. Being healthy after 20 years of poison is a very odd state of being indeed. Happy walking!

Hello all.....
was busy all weekend and so I didn't walk but today I got back on treadmill and I felt better afterwards. I have been dealing with a thyroid condition that I haven't got the exact treatment yet and it makes me really fatigued. Just dealing with my dgd made me tired to begin with....but Im so glad I still did it anyway....before I wouldn't have.

I'm starting to walk in the evenings, too, getting back in shape so I can work up to running again. It's pretty hot here but I figure an hour of sweating is good for me. I like this thread, it's nice to be inspired by others.

Didn't walk yesterday, but will today. DD and I had delivered pizza hut and stayed barricaded all day watching movies. She is seventeen and I didn't want to waste a minute.

Not sure how far I am walking, but I walk around the park during my son's football practice...usually for about an hour.

i am a tennis player for 25 years, i was never really a runner (like long distance marathon) and when i do run i seem to hit the wall in like the first 5 mins...but when i play tennis i can ran around hitting the balls as long as 3-5 hours.

since im getting older (turned 42) my doctor advised that if i want to play tennis for a long long time i should just reserved it to the tennis courts, if i am going to use the machines at the gym, she told me to used the eliptical instead of the treadmill or even the stair master as it will ruin the knee.

nowadays, since i stopped doing my sports (golf, tennis, soccer) when xabf and i broke up (he was my sports partner and have yet to find a new one). i walk, like for an hour and a half and i find it relaxing.

and my doctor/professor said that walking is the best exercise (then swimming).

here's to our good health.
