Zeba - Thanks for the vibes. Let us know how that app worked.

Nice work out Benny.

Piotr - Well...you made some good food and got in a good workout. That's something. Sorry the rest of dinner didn't go great.

L&R - Thinking of you. You have to decide what you want. If you want sobriety, find a support system to help you along that journey. It will not always be easy. Again, you have to decide if it's something you want to commit to. We are here for you. Congrats on the PR! Awesome.

Thanks everyone for the support with my sis. No updates. Tom, yeah, I can't just ignore this thing with my sis. I did call her but she hasn't called back. Reminds of the way it was for years. I'm guessing she knows I know.

I have learned a lot, and come a long way. Can you believe just a few months ago I was considering buying her a car? She had said this is what she needed to get sober (so she could get a job and all the other excuses). Then she gets the car (not from me), housing, job, food, counseling and many other things...and still didn't stay sober. Just so you understand...I know that these things do not guarantee sobriety. Still, just shows how dumb I was for considering buying the car.

I suppose I should give her the benefit till I know for sure. Though - she has used up all her - benefit of the doubts - with the years of lying and excuses. Don't get me wrong, if it's a relapse and she wants to get back to it I'll support her. However, from the info I got, it is more than that. I cannot go through that with her again.

Ok...thanks for listening. Got a work out in. Did just 10 hand stand push ups, 6 with hands on floor, 2 with hands on 1 brick, 2 with hands on 2 bricks. I wanted to limit these cuz of the shoulder, and it felt ok.

Did some pull ups. This hurt my shoulder, so did not have a great range of motion and will limit these.

100 push ups and 100 squats. Some ab stuff and stretching.

Nice job Fubar..... been holding my breadth all day anticipating your synopsis. .
We are all about fun and games, but our sobriety is paramount. If any body is struggling or has any alcohol (or drug) related issues, please come on in and speak up. Some of us are extremely opinionated, but we take our sobriety very seriously here. Hope everyone is doing well.

Thanks.....

Bennyhill, good job duplicating Tom's famous "animated" walks. Good job walking your dog as well as the circuits of your exercises.

Ghostly, so sorry to hear about your sister. Hopefully she'll get back in recovery mode. Good job with the hand stand push ups. If pull ups are hurting your shoulder, then I would quit doing them until it doesn't hurt or pick another lat exercise such as pull downs or one arm db rows.

Mazza, good job with the 3 mile jog. Looking forward to hearing how your 6 miles goes.

Fubarcdn, good luck moving into your house.

Jamdls, I see you have one thing on your mind. Me too. I thought I was the only one. Good job with the 40 min elip and other stuff.

Geralt, good job being tough and riding your bike through that cold weather.

Tom, good job with the 20 miles around Fiesta Island. Sounds like it's healthy and a lot of fun. Nice picture of that track in the middle of no where. I'd be willing to put down the weights and run that kind of route. Good job getting your wife to do one hour of cardio. That seems like a lot.

Piotr, good job with the zumba class and your cardio/weight workout. Good job hanging in there with your dad and his girlfriend.

Liftandrun, one drink is too many for most of us on here. The best thing you can do is get back in recovery mode and not pick up that first drink. Today's a new day.

Tres, jamy day is always fun. At least you won't need a blanky since you're in Florida (or will you?).

Ultrarunner, kewl song.

Coffeenut, enjoy your rest day. While you're at it you may as well go night night off and on all day.

Zeba, good job with that iphone app to get you through those exercises.

Saturday afternoon: Lats, shoulders, traps, abs, stretching.

Warmed up on treadmill with a good jog for 5 min.

Lat pulldowns behind neck: 170 lbs x 8 reps.
Lat pulldowns to the front: 170 x 8.

Seated db shoulder press: 70 x 8, 70 x 5.

Barbell shrugs: 315 x 5, 365 x 5.

Hanging leg raises while holding 8 lb medicine ball between my legs x 10 reps.

Stretched out whole body for 15 min.

Thanks for asking. I was going to post about that but thought it might be too personal. I'm in the process of looking for a part time job on top of my regular job. My regular job is m-f with weekends off. If I had it my way it would stay that way.

But I also realize I must do something. I'm leaning more towards taking something on the weekends instead of after work during the week. By the end of the work day I'm done. Stick a fork in me.

I also reminded my wife yesterday morning that though I know I must be willing to be ready for some added stress because of working more, I must also be careful not to get too stressed out and overburdened. It's all about getting the right fit.

This looking for more work/money situation though has really been stressing me out. Getting my resume together, looking online every night has almost been like working another pt job. I'm now walking into places, asking for the manager, introducing myself and handing them my resume. It's not easy. It was not supposed to be this way. I thought I was set at my other job. I'm really not prepared for this, but I'm learning to prepare myself for this. It's a work in process.

At the gym last night, there were three young studs showing off doing one armed pullups. They were only able to do one or two at a times.....

Uncle - Well, for what it's worth, I think you should be proud of yourself. You're right, it shouldn't be this way. A lot of people would make excuses, or not suck it up and do what they need to for their family. A second for what it's worth, you are an honorable man. We are lucky to have you here.

Tom - Are you trying to run it in?

@Ghoslty ghost......I can't do one arm pullups. Can barely muster a few with two arms. I never seen anyone trying one armed ones before.... just saying.

@ U-H..... my last binge was caused from the stress I was having when my business came screeching down. It is still way down from 3 or 4 years ago. But I learned to adapt. Have no idea what business you are in but I was not ready to walk away from mine. I learned to become extremely aggressive in my business development, cut my prices to the bone and worked as if each project was the number one priority in my life. If some one calls me on Monday and say they need something by Tuesday, it gets done by Tuesday no matter what I have to do to get it done and for a fraction of what I used to charge. Not making the money I used to do, but I make it work.

What this recessions has done in my industry (architecture) is eliminated all the amateurs out there. Those who are problem solvers are working those who are problem creators are looking. What can you do to resurrect your business?

Yeah...I know. I was trying to think of something to say in response to your post and couldn't think of anything so wrote that and it really made no sense.

I keep meaning to write...R4R, we are thinking of you.

Thanks Tom. As far as resurrecting - we're doing the exact things you've mentioned. There are a few other factors though. One is the internet. The internet is great in some ways, but it can also kill businesses.

Instead of calling us on the phone and going through us as in the pre-internet days, people now go online and have many more options. One example is the post office. More and more people pay their bills and do mail online istead of having to go through the post office, which caused the post office to go in severe debt.

Another is the cost of shipping. UPS is outrageous with their cost of shipping. Many customers won't order because of the cost of shipping.

Another thing killing mom and pop shops is you can buy some of these products for a dollar at the dollar store or cheap at places like Walmart, Target, Meijer...

Week 6 Day 1
Today is rest day for me.
Probably only do a few walks after each snack and meal just to get the digestive juices flowing. Just got back from the first one. After the fitness challenge I will be able to sleep late. Life's little pleasures.
Have a great day everyone.

Zeba: I like how you want to share your new attitude at other places. Sometimes I think we have crappy jobs so we can do just that. Nice.

Ghost: I wish you ladies at SR would remember that men are not pieces of meat to be drooled over. Please start respecting Tom and I for our minds in addition to our bodies! Caaaaaaaan't Breathe! RRRRRRRROFL. Ghost, behave yourself. Oh, gosh....that was a fun one!

I cannot go through that with her again. Ghost, I've had to say that with a family member. It's like ripping your heart out of your chest. However, in my case it worked. We must have needed the space, and are now on very good terms.

I've said it before.....take care of YOU. The rest will come.

Squid: Wasn't she on Idol? If so, her voice is still awesome. Physically, she has sure changed. Liked the link. Thanks!

We are all about fun and games, but our sobriety is paramount. Yep.

Piotr: I'm finding that our parents are sometimes not the Idols they once were to us....if that makes sense? I'm sorry they couldn't behave themselves at your dinner table.

Fub: You exhaused yourself so much in your shout outs, that you forgot to tell us about yourself! You gotta follow All the rules, son! I'm sure your day was Positively the Best!

Uncle: I'm glad you are aware that this change in your life will cause stress. Please take care of you, Uncle. There are good things out there for you...you're just having to dig for them right now.

Will be a run outside today, I'm hoping. Have a GREAT Sunday!

Happy Sunday everyone!

I really enjoyed the workout from the iPhone app; definitely got the heart rate goin! I think it'll be great for days when I don't have a lot of time or I just need a little something extra. It's called Nike Training Club if anyone's interested. Snowboarding was fantastic, it was nice and sunny up on the hill and felt warmer than it has down on flat ground in months! It's still a little bit weird when I go up there, because beer and snowboarding always seemed to go hand in hand for me. Reminding myself of the cracked tailbone and broken ribs helps to remind me why the DON'T go hand in hand, but I still feel like I should be grabbing a beer on my way to the cash register.

Today's workout is yoga! Looking forward to doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the day afterward.

I hope you all enjoy doing whatever it is you choose to do today, and that this week brings you some happiness! And to you ladies doing free weights at the gym, good on ya! I've been wanting to get into weight training on my own, as I enjoy doing it in classes or with the videos I have at home. But when I get into the gym I just get so overwhelmed with all the possibilities that I don't know where to start!

Hi everyone.

Just finished a 5mile bike and 3 mile run. Then did a 30 min yoga video to relax. I am feeling great! However I do think I smell bad...

Happy Sunday everyone.

Great day everyone..... What a beautiful day. I wish I could pack it up into tinny little boxes and send it to all of you, especially our European friends.

On the bike this morning. Club ride. First Sunday of every month we do an easy ride. Had to make the day worthwhile by making the early bird ride an up and down climb fest. Only got 50 miles, but the beginning and the end were hard work.

Today is one of my favorite days of the year. Something about a football game on TV. That means all the stores will be empty. Great day to go to the mall.

Later...... TdC.

fubar - I know I should do one body part per session, but:
a. its boring
b. machines are occupied, meaning WAIT WAIT WAIT
c. too much planning
I exercise on the machines which are available and which I feel like doing and which I enjoy doing.

u-h - very nice workout.

tom - that is why I don't use the free weights part of the gym - too many show-offs . Eagerly awaiting your SUN package
So the mall is open despite the GAME, never would have guessed ?

-17 C and wind chill.
Might be time to put the long underpants on.
Though probably would get strange looks at the gym.

Rest day. Dinner at my place with friends. Good food, no booze and heated debates. The smokers only complained it was freezing outside but I still did not allow smoking inside.

Weekly walking distance: 34 km.

I hear you on the waiting Piotor. It is enough to drive you crazy if you let it and especially at the early part of the year. It usually gets better where I am in March when all the New Years resolutioners are back to their french fries and soda pop.
On the other hand I am a planning maniac.
All the boozing did was mess up the plans. Another reason I cut it out.

Hey KA Crew,
I wish I could bottle this feeling and save a little for the future. More South Fla Winter weather here in SC. Wed. and Fri I had 3 hour sessions on the courts mixed in with 22 mile rides on Thu and Sat.

it crossed my mind just to bag the round robin this afternoon, but remembered Tom's sentiments before his last 70 mile solo. Teamed up with a strong 4.0 player (youngster), and after 30 minutes heavy warm-up, played an hour and a half.

Today was a break-through day. moving better , and hitting more solid shots. held serve every game; ......a big confidence boost. We were playing a strong 3.5/ 4.0 team.

Anyway, I don't count days, but just wanted to mention that patience has really payed off.
I became a non-drinker in April 2010 (ghostly's class) and the fitness progress was touch and go the first year. Hernia operation late summer 2010, total knee replacement the end of 2010.
Bike crash shoulder injury mid summer 2010. ----a year later, I was thinking it may keep me out of tennis for good. Anyway, I'm far from quick (yet) but starting to track balls better, and no lingering shoulder pain.

Not willing to bang power 1st serves yet, but practicing hard 2nd serves instead.

I'm so grateful to everyone on KA -SR. Other folks facing challenging injuries and rehabs has helped me keep things in perspective, and stay patient. ( never a personal strong point)

Today is the first day in all this time, .....it feels like everything is going to work out fine.
probably something to be said for winning at this higher level of play too ( I guess !?! )

Tom, ...happy shopping.

Tres, after a quick shower, you'll smell good and feel great !!

Zeba, initially i had the same feeling in the gym. Learned (here) to go with a plan.

At 1:30 am( after work ) , there's no wait, .....at first it felt creepy to be there <gym>solo. After a couple more weeks without seeing a soul, ...it'll probably feel creepy if someone finally shows up!?

Keep up the great work y'all.

Oh Coffee, even though I learned golf as a kid by working Sundays picking up balls on the practice range[/I] .....no plans to get back until I'm too broken down for tennis.

LOL , by then I'll be too broken down to break 90 !!??!
The local green fees are too pricey for me to justify. Tennis has been my passion for 40 years. Drinking = no tennis; ....so it hasn't been 40 straight years. More like an intermitant 20-something.

All right , I'm getting too long winded ( once again )

That is really great great news Top. What a great post. You made my afternoon. Fantastic.

Just like I suspected, we just got back from our marketing and the stores were empty.

And so is the gym..... It should be empty. We are going in half an hour!!!! Three times this week for my wife. She is so motivated right now, I am going to do everything I can to help her.

Incidentally, there are thousands of web pages on exercise routines. We have our own resident experts in U-H and Ghostly Ghost that might differ, but I've read that the one body part per day business is overrated and really apply to very serious body builders who have been training for years and who are at the gym 5 days a week, pushing their bodies to the max. The idea is NOT to train the same body part too often so that the muscles can recover and rebuild themselves.

I warm up (after 10 minutes on the rowing machine) with assorted dumbbells exercises. All mixed upper body stuff, then I will work a pair of muscles on the machines to failure. Either back and biceps, chest and triceps or shoulders, or whatever I feel like that day.

Zeba what I've been doing with my wife is just choose 3 machines with a theme, either pushing or pulling, and just go easy and light until she gets the form, and then slowly increase the weight. Try to do three sets on each. She is just beginning, so I keep reminding her that after a year of serious coach potatoing, any kind of exercise will be good for her. Just keep within yourself, don't get injured and with time, you will learn what is good just by feeling your way around.

One last comment. I do go to the heavy free weight section and watch the muscle heads do their thing. I especially watch the ones that are well built and try to study what they are doing. Also keep my eyes for trainers with new recruits to see what they do to get them going. Don't let them intimidate you, learn from them.

Go to run....err....drive to the gym, in a few.

Checking out the big boys, eh Tom? For "research purposes"?
Seriously, that is actually very smart. Not sure if you have ever asked any of them, but a lot of these muscle heads just love to talk about training, techniques, nutrition, etc. I used to work with a few of them, and if you ask, they will talk your ear off!
