Hang in there Piotr..... Two years ago in October, had a week in a time share in Scottsdale, Arizona. Drove up on a Saturday. I saw that they were running the Tour de Scottsdale the following day. Start was just two miles from our resort. Just had to do it. Threw my bike in the car as we were leaving and did the ride the next day. Half way during the week, I developed the worst toothache ever. I was 4 or 5 days from returning home so I drove to the liquor store and you guessed it. Only way to cure the pain was with booze. A 4 or 5 week bender followed. Best you take care of it.

Hi Cardinalfan. My niece lives in SL. Went there for a big family party 3 years ago. Another family friend that also rides bikes showed up for the party. We drove to Saint Charles and rented bicycles. We did about 60 miles of the Katy Trail. Pretty country. Congrats on 9 days. Welcome.

You should absolutely get back to it!

It's a great excuse not to drink and it will make you feel great!

Ultrarunner, omg I'm worried. If you haven't drank yet, don't. If you already started drinking, stop immediately and seek help either through AA or check yourself into treatment if needed.

I'm also terribly sorry that you lost access to your son. You may have to seek counseling to help you get through that also. But right now the most important thing to do is not pick up that first drink.

As far as I'm concerned it's best this forum supplements those things I mentioned (AA, treatment center if needed, counseling for son) instead of replacing those things. But I also realize there are people relying on this forum and not doing those things I mentioned. And if they're staying sober then that's all that counts and that's good too. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

SamanthaIam, welcome. Good luck with the Thanksgiving day 5k.

Tom, good job with the walks, 20 mile bike ride and planning of two century's on Feb 11 and March 24.

Samwich, good job with the 5 miles. Sorry to hear about your knee.

Jamdls, good job with the cardio, weights and weighted hula hoop. Glad you got your clothes shopping done. Can I give Peaches a hug?

Mygrandfather, good luck in Philly. That massage sounds nice.

Tippingpoint, good job with playing squash.

Topspin, good luck with your future garden.

Itisatruth, welcome. Good job with working out while working a lot.

Rylianh, good job with the 2 km.

Coffeenut, good job with the 3 mile walk.

Anewdawn, welcome. Good job quitting drinking Monday and running 45 minutes.

Piotr, tooth extractions hurt. Hope you feel better. The good news is you don't ever have to worry about having a tooth ache or maintaining that tooth again.

Cardinal fan, congrats on 9 days sober. Hope your training goes well.

R4R, are you okay? You mentioned you were going to start training this week. But you also recognized that sobriety has to come even before that. That's a big step in the right direction. Hope all is well.

Tuesday evening: Shoulders, traps, arms, stretching.

I also decided to add isolation exercises for all three sides of the deltoid, especially the often neglected rear delts. That might explain why I had a painful stiff neck/upper back last week and still wake up with a little bit of a stiff neck. Muscle imbalances can cause that.

Warmed up with a 5 minute jog.

Seated dumbbell (db) shoulder press: 70 lb db x 8 reps x 2 sets.

Front deltoid - Front lateral raises with 20 lb db x 8 reps x 2 sets.

Side deltoid - Side lateral raises with 20 lb db x 8 reps x 2 sets.

Rear deltoid - Bent over lateral raises with 30 lb db x 8 reps x 2 sets.

Barbell shrugs: 315 x 5 reps x 2 sets.

Barbell bicep curls: 115 x 8 (wide grip). Then 115 x 5 (close grip).

Tricep push downs: 140 x 8 reps. Then 140 x 5.

Stretched out whole body for 20 minutes.

Nice work out Uncle.

Congrats on 9 days Cardinal. Nice job getting back to it. You have had a lotta success.

Nice ride Tom. I'm sure you'll get back to your diet, though I also know you don't worry bout it.

Glad you got the tooth out Piotr. Tooth aches suck.

Nice 9k Tipping.

Glad the walk was good Coffee.

NewDawn - Congrats on the run and sober time.

Sam - Hope the knee gets better.

Samantha - Hope your injury gets better too.

Bad time for knees and having "Sam" in your name I guess.

Good walk with Peaches Judy.

I did some running drills, jump rope and other things today. Really pushed it at times and def got a sweat going.

Hope everyone is well.

Thanks all for the welcome! Yeah, I didn't realize that there is so much more than running goin on in this thread. Great stuff, I am looking into adding other activities aswell... Not sure what I'll be picking up first.

Did a 45 min workout at the gym earlier this morning and I am already thinking about running tomorrow morning! I absolutely need to fix my Android phone to be able to track the acitivities again, GPS no longer workin in background mode... Bad, bad, bad!

Dawn: Welcome! Keep that focus on sobriety, the running will follow. Glad you are here!

Tipping Point: It's hard to find 'good' layers. I've taken to wearing 2 long sleeve technicals and Fleece over. Didn't think that would work, but so far....

Piotre: Toothaches and earaches are the worst! Hope you can get out there again, soon.

Cardinal: Welcome! We seem to be blessed with many 'ages' in this forum. I'm in the
50's club as well. We just get better with age.....specially once we get the sober part down. Please hang around some. Good people here.

Tom: I've done that with tooth and ear problems. Hell, any kind of problem. It's nice to take an antibiotic now and not worry about it mixing with alcohol....because I certainly couldn't give up the alcohol for 24 hours. And....glad the pooch appears pain free. I'm sure he'd let you know different.

Uncle: How long does your routine take?

Ghost: We haven't had any baby updates lately. I need one, please.

R4R....Judy....Hi, Girls!

Finally got out for a run last night. 7 beautiful miles 20*, but little wind, which makes all the difference. Beautiful starry night. Crisp. Quiet. Made me remember why I run.

Have a most awesome Thursday, Friends.

Good Morning All

"RFR, ...you're stuck with us. This place is like Hotel California.
You can check in, but you can never check out" Funny, Top.... VERY funny VERY glad though also.

Nope - not working out a darn bit... Uncle. That's why I haven't posted much. Walking the dog at lunch has been about it. I think I have to start my stretches again though before I tackle attempting to run much. Probably in danger of hurting myself if I don't watch it starting out again.

Ultra.... You are soo in my prayers right now. Sorry this happened to you. Don't stay away, no matter what's happening with you ok?

Welcome to all the new peeps

I got this stupid tune stuck in my head.......whistle, whistle, whistle.... Boy do I feel good right now. Back from a 20 mile fitness bike ride. Still a bit heavy legged, but not as bad as yesterday.

I don't think the 100 miler on Saturday did me in (I was very active on Sunday), nor the drive to and from the desert (a lot of traffic coming back), or having to spend 6 hours in the car Tuesday, driving back and forth to LA for a one hour business meeting. Just a cumulative thing I guess. But I got some of my spring back this morning. Hope to do it again tomorrow.

Later my friends...... whistle, whistle, whistle.......TdC.

Motivation!

What the heck!
I've been lazing around since Saturday. Can't use the knee as an excuse, it's better, but have just managed not much of anything all week. Overslept this morning so didn't make it to spin class.

Somebody give me a kick in the butt!

Although, I'm not drinking, so I guess that's the most important thing, right?

Sometimes I don't realize that either! Especially lately with the influx of new runner members.

Good to hear form you R4R!

I second Tom's kick.

Coffee - Funny, was going to add a baby update last night, but didn't. She is great. Rolling around a lot, but no crawling, though you can see she want to. She loves dancing in her bouncy chair. She is beautiful.

I have also noticed the sky here has been amazing. Crisp, bright stars, beautiful moon. I love it.

Hi Gang, having a weird week as I'm having withdrawal issues from stupid prescription drug....got on some anti-depressants after my brother died in Aug and they really helped me out but then they started giving me terrible night sweats so I decided to taper off then and quit taking them completely last Friday and starting 2 days ago I've been extremely dizzy to the point couldn't even get out of bed yesterday but this too shall pass but it's definetly put a crimp in my workout...was at the gym Tues evening when nearly passed out while lifting weights so until the dizzyness is gone I'm taking a break from working out, hopefully it will pass by the weekend.
Good to hear about the pooch Tom and the baby, Ghost (they get equal importance in my world)
Keep the world spinning all just not too fast right now or I will fall off.

On my way to play squash again...taking on a rival club tonight. It's a team competition - 5 of us and 5 of them. Our #1 plays their #1 and so on through #5. Best 3 out of 5 matches takes the evening. I'm playing in the #1 spot tonight.

And then to top it all off...the host team provides dinner and drinks for the opposing team!

This was always one of my regular drinking nights but I've managed to tame that beast. While the boys are drinking their beer I will stick to water, gatorade and diet pepsi.

Have a good eve all!

Took my match 3-0 and the team won the night 4-1. My games were close but my opponent just couldn't match my fitness....wore him down slowly but surely. It's good to be the fitter guy on court more often than not!

R4R: You'll know when you're ready.

Tom: Your pictures crack me up! Glad you're getting back with it. Whenever I do something 'big' it always takes me awhile to get back to it. I don't know why.

Samwitch: Not drinking really is the most important part. You'll be ready for your half. If not....postpone it. There are lots of halves out there. Getting sober will give you more than a half ever could.

Ghost: She is beautiful. Just about says it all, doesn't it. Thanks!

Judy: That's gotta be tough. Take it easy, friend. Keep walking Peach, slowly.

Tipping: Glad you enjoyed your matches!

Rest night for me last night. Seems I've had a lot of those, lately. Getting over issues is getting to be a pain in the butt. Used to Bounce back. Now I kinda stumble back.

Have a Great Start to the Weekend!

Battling with my toothache and with my thoughts. The antibiotics I have to take make me feel drowsy and tired. No energy to do much anything. This feeling reminds me of a hangover feeling and the thoughts came - hey I know a cure for this.

I know that is not the way - I finish the meds on Sunday and I hope to get back to the gym and more energy and optimism. Just venting...

I am one of those that would use booze to cure every ailment. I never liked taking antibiotics or painkillers. Tequila worked quite well for me. Luckily, I haven't used either in a while.

Nice, Tippingpoint. I used to play a lot of racquetball 30 years ago. Nowadays it's hard to find people to play with.

Early morning meeting today, no time to ride, but always time for an animated 4 mile all-out speed walk. Stopwatch in hand.

Great day everyone that that that that (I meant ..... But maybe this program isn't that smart after all). TdC.

Hello everyone! So much I have missed in just four days....

Ultra, my heart goes out to you. Cannot imagine the sorrow of not being able to see your child you obviously love so much. Do hang in there, and I am sending positive thoughts to you. Be well, my online running friend.

Warm welcomes to SamanthaIam, Rylian, aNewDawn and CardinalFan! If I missed any other newbies, I apologise and welcome you too!

TippingPoint, you are doing great! Stay at it and say hello to B.C. for me!

Piotr, hope you are recovering quickly from your dental trouble!

As for me, Monday was a 35:00 run, felt bloody marvelous! Short easy walks w/my recovering-from injury-dog on Tuesday & Wednesday, and then Thursday. Bloody hell! Went running, started great and at ONLY 10:00 in hit a wall. I forced myself to do 25:00, then stopped. Absolutely nothing in the tank. Walked back to my car and went home, shaking. In short, I am exhausted from the work week. Thirteen hour shifts M-W took their toll. I will run again Saturday, and I will be rested and loaded (nutrition-wise) up!
