Great pics Tom. Judy, sorry your birthday was a bust. Hopefully today was better for you.

Been cycling this morning and later will go and run just 2-3 miles. I want to do 7 tomorrow and don't want to exceed 35 this week (up to 40 next week....).

Glad everyone's doing great....looking after my two year old so this is just a "touch base" post. Later everyone.

Got in another 10k today in 63 minutes and a 5 mile run in 50. Both felt effortless. Finally seeing some reward for 10 hard weeks of training.

Nice day here, but working in the office 2/3 of the day. Saving my legs for Sunday bike club ride. Registered for my first century for next year. This is a repeat of the one I did this April, but they moved it to March for 2012. I'm in. Today is day 366 for me. Completed my first year sober by celebrating, my way, by climbing that hill yesterday. Those pictures don't come anywhere close to show how ecstatic I felt doing it. Logging into SR daily and especially KA is a very important key to my recovery. But got a lot of personal work to do still. It never ends, right?

Great day everyone...... TdC..... Just living la vida sober.

Ultra: Chasing after a 2 year old is great cross training!

Elvis: It's good to see hard work pay off. Nice run!

Tom: Most excellent way to celebrate one year! YeeeeHaw! I hear you on the personal work. When I was drinking, I thought I was damn near perfect....sober, I sure see where the work needs to be done. The interesting thing is, I really don't mind doing the work.

Again, CONGRATS on a year, Tom. Glad you're HERE!

7 miles for me. Hard, but good kinda hard.

Hey, Ghost....you watching any football tonight?!

Ah! You tired him out. That's the oldest trick in the book.

Something sweet about watching a baby sleep. Just makes one feel peaceful, imo.

Coffee....you credit me with too much guile. Usually when we get back from the park he's stuck on "GO!" and it's me that's flagging :-)

Tom - congratulations on the one year

Recovering from being sick, so little exercise. Just long walks - today 7 km after an AA meeting. Getting dark early so it was sth new to walk on the beach in the semi-dark. The sound of waves breaking just got more intense, the lights of ships anchored in the harbour - small dark dots in the darkness.

And that is it in a nutshell for me. My wife's niece and a friend signed up to do a marathon in 4 months. I never seen her exercise all her life. When I was a runner, I did 6 months of 6 milers x 5 days a week before it would even occur that I could do an organized 10k. Then I did a years worth of 10ks before I thought of doing a 13.1. So many people just want to go to the store, buy a fancy pair of shoes, and called themselves runners.

And talking about hard, I like hard. Feels great afterwards.

Congrats on a year + Tom! Awesome! < Another one just for fun...kinda a cute little guy. You are doing such a great job inspiring others.

Nice 7 Coffee.

I got a work out in. Some hand stand push ups (most with my hands on bricks), pull ups /chin ups (some on a bar, some on rings), regualar push ups, some ring work, bridges and light stretching. I was really wiped from yesterdays work out. Todays really dragged and took quite a bit out of me, but glad I got it done.

Yes Coffee, Football tonight.

^ I won't rub it in. I like you (of course) and neither of us were talking dumb before the game.

I was nervous bout this one and it started bad. We had a turnover, then with that missed extra point I thought it was goin downhill.

Our QB, Russell Wilson, really is an amazing player...and a huge difference with the team this year. Things turned around with the game, the Badgers got huge momentum, and then what happened, happened.

Nebraska and Wisconsin could meet again this year yet. That's interesting.

I was impressed with how Nebraska's fans travel. That's cool.

Anyway...good game.

My schedule only allowed me to do just over two miles last evening which is frustrating, but my legs are feeling the mileage (of running and cycling) so I stuck to it. That means I have seven to do this afternoon to take me to my weekly target (which will be increased next week).

I run with an iPod when not with the club. I quite like the additional social insulation it supplies. A few weeks ago when I started back I was a bit self-conscious as I put weight on during a sedentary and drunk summer. The iPod screened out the "witticisms" that all runners have to put up with, from drivers mostly. The weight has dropped off me now but I still like the feeling of being in my own world. It's set up with a mixture or rock and classical. This afternoon I think I'll go with the latter: Glenn Gould's recording of the Goldberg variations of Bach - the later version.

Anyone have any thoughts on the use of the iPod when cycling? I read a piece on this in bed last night in which the author changed his mind halfway through.

Great Sunday everyone.

Well, it's seems it was really busy here the last couple days!

I've been having a terrible time with my back -- like my left side should blade to spine area... got my hubby to massage it a little a couple nights ago and it's worse May have to go to a chiropractor if it doesn't ease up this week. It got screwed up during the marathon... somehow... but still glad I did it

Congrats on your year Tom!!!! Way Cool!!

Ultra... I run with an iPod also - most of the time. Sometimes I just like the quiet though... especially in the mornings.

Have a good one everybody!

Well I did the seven miles necessary to clock 35 for the week. Can't say it was fun...the weather in SE England is stupid hot and being stupid (and fired up by coverage of the Great Edinburgh 10K this morning) I went out at lunchtime.

I don't "do" hot weather. When it comes to feeling clammy, headachey and unable to breathe properly I don't always see the upside. Besides, it's October and this is Wiltshire....in the scheme of things this just aint right.

Over here it's like 17 degrees C. Massive difference and it's only a few hundred miles away.

I hate the warm weather too. Warm for me is anything above 17
