Hey welcome Happy. The La Marathon..... Is that the one in March? My daughter was talking about doing it. She is not much of a runner (yet) but her boyfriend ran tack in HS and is trying to get her to train with him with enough time to prepare.

I used to be a runner 25 some years ago but my knees decided to put a stop to all the fun, so the best I can do is ride my bike and do a lot of walking.

Stick around..... we have several runners here. Really4Real should be chimming in soon. She is doing a marathon this weekend and Coffenut and MyGrandfather do several 26.2s each year.

And congratulations on your determination. I have been known to drink for weeks on end and stop "cold turkey" two or three days before a century bike ride, do the ride, and then go back on the bottle immediately afterwards. Sheer insanity. No more.

Welcome.

Ultra... now I remember why I liked you ... I ran in my Mizuno's for a couple years! Then the toe box seemed to be a bit cramped?? Anyway, on to Saucony Kinvara's... super light and love them - especially with the arch supports I bought to stave off the posterial tibialis issue I had in the Spring!
Bought another pair of last years version and may just get another since they are 40.00 off!!

Nice shoes, Elvis.... happy feet = happy running That's about how far I go 500-600 depending on the shoe.

Congrats on the 9 days and marathon training Happy! Awesome on the 3

Hi Tom, Top, Coffee, Ghost, Jennie, Piotr, Zuri, Judy, Uncle and anyone else I missed. Keep kickin it!!

Tom

Yes LA is in March. Since the Dodger owner McCourt has so many problems though I am crossing fingers. Last year was the first or second year he owned both la marathon and dodgers and definitely I noticed financial issues with the LA marathon that were not there when Dr Bill Burke owned it. I was dissapointed at the course change ending in Santa Monica (hello Mr. McCourt, why does the Los Angeles marathon now end in a DIFFERENT city? What is next? New York city ending in Boston?)

I recommend one of the various training groups of this is her first. The la roadrunners just started training last Saturday. But again, that's owned by the bankrupt Dodger owner so I'm waiting for feedback from friends first. But I have trained with them in the past and they are very very good!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I absolutely cannot wait for my first runners high this marathon. I haven't had one since mile 16 to 20 of a training run two years ago.

But because of the drugs I haven't run farther than 6 miles in at least a year and a half.

I have never gotten a runners high earlier than mile 12. Hey, maybe that's why I switched to distance?????

coffeenut, good job with the 6 miles with hubby. Maxing out in weights means to see the most amount of weight I can lift for 1 rep. It's best to do this in a cycle by gradually bumping up the weight each week until I can only get one rep. Good for you with the 2 hour walk instead of always thinking you've got to do 10 miles or nothing.

Ghostly, good luck with your shoes.

topspin, good job with the boat. I used to own a 14 ft aluminum boat with a trailer and 8 hp motor and go fishing all the time. Then I got bitten by the powerlifting bug (lifting weights) and that kind of took over.

Dee74, thanks for starting the new thread. That bed that you showed looked comfy.

R4R, good job on the 30 minute treadmill.

tom, good job loosening up your legs with the 4 mile animated walk. Good job with the 20 mile bike ride and adapting to a different route after that set back with your regular route.

Zuri, good job with the 4 mile walk and an hour at the gym.

Ultrarunner, good job with the interval/hill training. Good job with the 10 k in 7 min 50 sec pace. Thanks for sharing your shoes.

Elvis, thanks for showing that link of your new shoes. I've got Under Armour cross training shoes. Had them for three years now. I'm due for a new pair. Not sure which kind I'm going to get.

Runhappy, good job getting off the opiates. Good job with the 3 mile run. Good luck with your marathon in March.

Monday morning: 15 minute cardio on stationary bike. I worked up a sweat and got my heart rate elevated for the whole 15 minutes.

Tuesday evening: legs, glutes, lower back, shoulders, traps.

Squats: 135 lbs x 5 reps, 225 x 5, 315 x 5 (all reps below parallel).

Deadlifts: 315 x 5 (no belt)

Barbell shoulder press to the front: 135 x 5, 185 x 5.

Barbell shrugs: 315 x 5.

Stretched out whole body for 20 minutes.

Showered.

Snack: non-fat greek plain yogurt mixed with non-fat light vanilla regular yogurt with a banana in it. Yummy. A small glass of low-fat milk. A mini microwave popcorn bag. Green tea.

Welcome Runhappy!

My custom orthotics will arrive soon and I am really hoping I can run happy again...just has not been the same since this plantar fascitis came along. And now I hear about PF everywhere...my Mother even! Then I watch MLS soccer and one of the players is having a bout with it..and then...well I guess it's like when you hear a new word and then it seems like it's everywhere.

No run today, biked in on a nice foggy morning. Got out for 3mi Mon and Tuesday. I am now entertaining the idea of a modest increase in my M-F daily run. Like I said in the beginning, I want to do something that I will stick with. Started a t 2mi went to 3mi and now maybe 4. Then stick with that until Spring.

Welcome all new kickers......Hope you can all stick around.

We live inland about 15 miles from the ocean. The marine layer comes in overnight so I wake up to what is referred to as "June Gloom". Thick cloud cover, no sun, no sky, just light gray. Always 62 degrees at 6:00 AM this time of the year, but by mid day it will burn off and we will get up to the mid 80s with beautiful blue skies.

Most people hate it... "Can't wake up, it is too gloomy" my wife always says. But for me, just perfect for going out and burning some calories.

Early morning meetings today. No time to ride, but always time for an animated 4 mile all out speed walk. Stopwatch in hand.

Great day everyone..... TdC.....Just doing my share to keep the globe spinning.

Thanks! I might do a half in November if my weekly distance and time are where I want them, but no, I just love running and cycling. I used to love foot race distances of 20-43k though before racing to make another drink became my main sport. There is also a sweet fun-run event I'll be doing in October:

runforyourlives . com (can't include links yet)

Running AND zombies?! That should be a blast for sure!

Finally managed to get some exercise. Felt super tired after therapy recently.

Today 1 hour at gym - bicycle, rowing, weights, fast walk on treadmill. Must start writing down what I do on each machine to motivate myself.

Take care everyone.

Happy, and Wommp;

Welcome to KA !!

LOL, Judy, I'll bet Peaches will really enjoy the new pace once she gets acclimated.

Elvis, .....don't put too much pressure on yourself. You're doing good.

.....as is everyone else here.

Womp, this--> Running AND zombies?! That should be a blast for sure!

...may even get Ghostly out running !?!

Nothing but pulling / digging tree stumps and driving a chainsaw for several hours.

Grateful to get to work tonight for some R&R

You guys keep me inspired !!!!

Elvis.. Are you doing AVRT? I know posting about that is somewhere else on here but I noticed your signature line.

Zuri.. Are you the one I got the term "mud magnet" from this week? Lol. I had never heard that and now I refer to my furry running partner as that.

To all who ran or walked or "just did it" today congrats.

I can't seem to get out there. Told myself I was doing this am before it got too hot for my dog and I didn't go. When that happens I tell myself ok, well you didn't run this am so you will go tonight. Then I'm hungry when I get home so I say I will go after a snack. Then I eat too much and have to wait for digestion. (I hate running on full stomach)

Anyway here I sit at 450 pm. I have only another 2 hour window before it starts to get dark and I live in a not so great area to be running after dark this out of shape. I'm still only 10 days in and don't feel strong enough to run off an after dark runner heckler.

Maybe posting about running here will get me to get up and get my shoes on. I sure hope so!

Happy,
You can find the AVRT thread in Special Interest (here) under Secular Connections

....I think.

Effective paradigm, for sure.

Yeah RunHappy that's what I use. It's a pity there wasn't a LBRT that I could use to recognise and deal with myself when I'm being like this.

LAZY BUM RECOGNITION TECHNIQUE!

Anyone ever tried eating those Power Bar Rides on the run? I reckon if I did try one of those while running I'd suffer!
