Ewwwwww, MGF - That sounds very, very yucky!

Had a bad 'feeling' about going out this morning... not an excuse, call it intuition or whatever... I call it God... but anyway. I went back to bed.
I also ran out of GU - had one packet left and knew that wouldn't be much of a help. On these longer runs, I'm pretty dependant on having at least two of them -- probably three now that I'll be out there for probably a hair over 4 hours... I was going to supplement with some new drink, but not being used to it - decided that wouldn't be good either...

Dang it... I just checked tomorrow morning and it's scattered thunderstorms
Ok, I'm going to go get my GU and run a trail a few times 'down in the valley' -- at least it will be shaded from the heat and there are drinking fountains so I don't have to carry much water....

I'll quit belly-aching now and get going -- I'm still shooting for 20.

Oh... and Elvis... I had to look up what fortnight meant... I thought it meant like tomorrow, but its really two weeks... learn something new everyday

Brit talk doesn't make much sense R4R so don't worry

I did my 5 miles today and it was tough in the heat. I should be OK to do the 12 tomorrow though. As long as I keep it slow and make sure I have my Toffee Popcorn and Monster Energy Drink combo for lunch. It's rocket fuel! I start going OMMMMMM NOM NOM in my head as I eat up the road (very slowly).

Yeah, well ours isn't much better....
Tell me about the heat... I forgot how bad it was to run in the heat of the day!! Used to run after work all the time. Now that I switched to early morning ... like 5:30 or 6... it was a KILLER out there today! I did get in 11 miles... sorry pace - walked a lot. Won't beat myself about it much, it was a trail run mostly with lots of hills... Next week, I'll get my 20 I still have a couple weeks before I taper...

BUT I did lose two pounds this week.... the scale DOES move! I thought my husband might have superglued the needle :rotfxko

Ghostly thinking and praying for this stuff to get over with for Pete's sake I don't like to see any friend down... and you are my friend...

well, I consider all of you friends

Hey gentlepeoples.

Nice to hear someone is doing something to keep this globe spinning. Elvis, R4R, MyG, Coffee.....did I mention Coffee.... nice job guys.

Just been doing a lot of walking. Today dropped my son off at EMU for his first all day practice with the drumline and headed downtown Detroit to sightsee with my wife to play tourist. First stop: Farmers market. Then walked for a couple more hours downtown and around the waterfront facing Canada. The place is really nice.

Tomorrow is "S" day (separation) for us. 8AM to 2 is drumline practice. 2PM my son checks into the dorm. 5PM there is an open house BBQ for all the marching band families. 6PM we say goodby. I already know my wife is going to be an emotional mess. She has already gone through half a box of Kleenex just in the past two days just thinking about it.

I have to stay strong. I am so glad I can do this sober. Every restaurant I go to I celebrate the fact that I can sit down, enjoy a meal, watch people drink, and not be tempted in any way to get plastered. Today we went to a lively Greek restaurant. The Retsina was flowing everywhere........ Ooopa...... Not for me.

Ghost and Judy, I hope you guys are feeling better.....Later.

R4R: You'll get that 20, it's just not there at this time. Don't let it mess with your head as 11 is pretty darn good in there.

Elvis: Nice 5. Let us know how your 12 goes tomorrow.

Tom: It does take time to get used to that empty nest. Then, after awhile....you kinda Enjoy it! It really is nice to be grateful for sobriety rather than be hell bent and determined for a drink, no matter what the cost.

Ghost....you still under the weather?

GF: Glad you got 6 more miles after your 'discovery'.

Don't know if anyone else does this, but I end every day telling myself how grateful I am to be sober. If not one other thing happens during the day, I didn't drink. Something to celebrate.....often.

Night, Friends!

Ghostly, hope you feel better.

jamdls, hope your back feels better. That heat sounds rough. I can't imagine having that many extremely hot days in a row like that. But I'll be envying your weather during our cold, late Fall/Winter/early Spring months from November to April with lots of messy slush and snow. On top of that there's alot of grey ski days with not much sun during these months. Believe me, it can be depressing around here during these months. Although some people enjoy it if they ski/snowmobile. But I never got into that.

tom, way to take care of business for your kids. We're not quite there yet with getting our son off to college (age) as he'll be entering 10th grade. Our 11th grader will be living with us permanently as he has a disability.

But I can imagine how that must feel. I'm happy for your son and hope he's happy and does well. Wishing you the best with having to let go of your son. Sounds like you're handling it well and also doing a fantastic job with your sobriety.

coffeenut, good job with the 10 miles. Thanks for the reminder to be grateful and to celebrate that we're sober.

Elvis, good job with the 10.3 miles. Good job with the 40 miles for the week. Good job with the 5 miles. That toffee popcorn and monster energy drink sounds like it can make a huge difference.

My 10th grader to be went to his friend's house to spend the night after football practice. We're gradually letting him go as we realize he's in high school and no longer a little kid anymore. He doesn't want to hear about the alcohol/drugs lecture, so we don't do it anymore. But we do remind him to make good decisions.

I'm still in the process of making contact with that builder who scammed my mother out of doing her porch. I pretty much am now in charge of handling this project and hoping for a miracle that he'll come out and do the job that my mother paid him to do. I remembered to work the program and do what the Big Book and AA suggests by.....praying for his prosperity, health and happiness. Yuck!!! It's not easy.

But the good news is he is taking my calls and still maintains he will finish the job and do it right even though he doesn't show up on the days that he tells me he's going to be there. My mother doesn't want to go through with taking him to court if he can't come through and just wants to take the loss and hire someone else if he's not going to finish the job. This has been going on since April, 2010. I found out about it two weeks ago.

I've been calling him in the morning, asking how his morning is going, what he had for breakfast, asking if he's motivated to work, and most of all telling him that we've got to finish this job and be done with it, in a nice way. And most of all praying for him and to have God remove my own selfishness, resentment, dishonesty, and fear.

After several appointments that he blew us off on he actually..........

Showed up and got a big chunk of it done!!!!!! We couldn't believe that he showed. He came with two other workers and worked all day Friday. But it's still not over yet. He said he'll come out Sunday (today) to finish it up. That has yet to be seen. We're not expecting it. But I will continue to call him and make contact and hopefully get him to finish this up and get my mother out of this mess.

Saturday evening workout: Chest, legs, lower back.

Jogged on treadmill for 5 minutes to warm up.

Bench press: 135 pounds x 5 repetitions, 225 x 5, 315 x 5, 335 x 2 (touch n go each rep)

Close grip bench press: 295 x 5 (paused each rep).

Barbell squats: 135 x 5, 225 x 5, 315 x 5. (each rep below parallel).

Hyperextensions: 50 pound dumbbell held under my chin x 8 reps.

Stretched out whole body for 20 minutes.

Uncle... it's nice when 'principles' work like that... pretty much along the lines of 'bless those who curse you'. When someone gets my dander up, and my pride gets down to a swallowable size, I usually end up asking forgiveness for my wrong reactions, forgiving that person, then praying for blessings on them. I try to go a step further and asking God to fill my heart with His love for them. MOST of the time, it works
I have enough trouble with managing myself to worry about hanging on other stuff...
Glad the porch is finally getting done!

Still barefooting, well, sort of.

Been super busy with home renovations and work. Barefooting requires good light so you can see those metatarsal bruising pebbles. I've only managed to squeeze in the odd 3.5K here and there.

Last night (yup, in the dark) I ran 5.6K in the pouring rain with my new 6mm Invisible Shoes huarache style running sandals. It felt weird to be disconnected from the ground! This bodes well for the future as there was no chafing from the laces or hot spots on my foot pads. Daylight is getting noticeably shorter every day, so being able to run in the dark is huge.

Keep kickin' kickers!

Hi all, happy sunday! I had hoped to get to the gym this morning but since I've barely slept in the last 3 nights (prednisone makes me wired! and sick to my stomach!) and back is still sore I decided to not risk it but I did all my therapy exercise which are mostly yoga type stretching and I've been walking around the block with the dog at least 3 times a day so I'm not being a total couch potato.
Tom, it is tough letting them go glad you are handling it as the strong man you seem to be. Heck I've been teary eyed all weekend because my grandson starts kindergarten tomorrow! There is an elementary school a block from my house (not my grandsons) and I always get teary when I drive by on the first day of school each year.
Ghost, hope you get feeling better
Coffee, yes I too end each day thanking God for my sober life no matter how much things really suck at times (as they have the last few weeks) I am greatful that I am now strong enough to handle anything and everything with a clear mind and not reach for stupid fermented grapes!
R4R, congrats on the weight loss! I've gained 7 lbs since I quit smoking and it sucks clothes dont' fit but "I'll think about it tomorrow"
Uncle, great workout as usual you are an inspiration
Going to take Peaches for another walk then ice my back again.
Have a great day all.

Uncle: You may not like what you're doing....but it seems to be working with this guy. You've made more progress in 2 weeks than was made in 1 1/2 years, it looks like.

It is so hard as parents age. Hard.

Judy: I think your walking around the block is perfect. Sometimes the best thing is to slow it down. That's also the hardest.

R4R: I need to take a page from your book when someone gets my dander up. Usually I just start hollering.

Wanted 10 and got 4, today. Just didn't have it. Off to put some miles on the bike. Haven't done that for awhile....

Happy Sunday, all!

Rollerblading 10 laps =14 km in the evening.

Rather warm but quite strong wind - one way rolled a lot faster then the other.

A lot of people walking on the promenade nearby, even a man playing a cello. It was quite nice listening to live classical music while riding.

Coffee on a bike? WOOOOW WOOOW. What do you think Top? Welcome. I have seen a lot of "people on bikes" in my 6 days in Michigan, maybe 2 or 3 "cyclist" like I see in CA.

You know it is not so much the letting go, he has been ready and changed gears some time ago. For 20 some years the focus of our everyday life has been our kids. Now they are both out of the house. Now what? We need to reinvent ourselves. I'm ready to do that. I don't think my wife is quite ready. At least not today. She needs more time. But enough about this already, right?

This morning was sleep-in day. Not for me. I was up early so on came my New Balances and off I went. I was going to go out 3 miles on a straight North South road and turn around and return to the hotel for a 6 miler. Easy enough, but about 2 miles out, I was lost in thought, when I realized the sky had turned from light gray to darker gray. Within minutes I noticed it was sprinkling at around 2.3 miles, so I made a U turn and as soon as I did, the sky opened up. U-H, R4R, why didn't you guys warn me? Anyway, I ran, OK I jogged, all the way back to the hotel. It never let up until the moment I got back under cover. Chalk me in for 4.5 +/- animated walk.

Flying back home tomorrow. Take care friends.

PS: Ghost, what's up? feeling better?

Piotr: Rollerblading is awesome cardio! Glad you enjoy it!

Tom: Takes a bit of time to get used to an empty nest...but you know what, I really enjoy it. Kinda selfish, but I enjoy just the two of us.

Just so we're clear I'm not a biker like you guys. I have a Wally World special that suits me just fine, right now. Have to say, though...as I was tooling along, I was thinking about you guys and the miles you put on. You have my respect!

Safe travels home, Tom.

Evening, all!

Oh, TdC... we have a saying in Ohio and I think Michigan is the same way... if you don't like the weather wait few minutes and it will change. Sometimes a few minutes is all it takes Especially the closer you are to the lakes... the weather comes from north west most of the time.... If it's any consolation, it was raining here yesterday also. But I usually check the weather the night before to see what I'm going to do in the morning.... may not have to do that in CA where it rarely rains, but here... it's in our best interest. At least you didn't need a shower when you got back

Did a really nice 4.2 mile run this morning ... left the iPod at home and listened to the quiet. Did my stretches and exercises, then took my dog for a mile walk. Nice cool morning... really, really liked it - as opposed to Saturday afternoon. Supposed to go hiking with a friend after work - about 3.5 miles.

Judy... at least you're getting out there a little bit now... and giving the pup some exercise too. You're doing great on not smoking! I've been off them for 4+ years and don't miss them one iota. I don't remember gaining much weight, but I didn't really eat much either. I sucked on halls cough drops and the stick from dumdums That's what got me through. My weitht came with alcohol... and boy, did it come on fast!

Hope everyone's start of the week is going great!

I'm not a "biker" either, Cof. I'm a recreations "cyclist". My bikes don't have engines in them....... old joke

Beautiful day here. Sunny, no clouds, light wind. Everything is green and lush with new brick homes set around ponds. Just gorgeous part of the country.

I have to spend a lot of time sitting on an airplane this afternoon, so I thought it would be a good idea to go out and burn some calories first thing this morning. Set up on a 6 mile animated walk. All the roads around my hotel run North South and East West. I knew that. What I did not know is that they are all set up on half mile grids.

My hotel is right on a major intersection. I walked a good distance West and when I got to a major intersection I headed North. It was exactly 2 miles. Walked another mile and when I was going to either turn around or go East. It was exactly 3.00 on my Garmin.

When I stepped back into the hotel property, it was 5.96 and 6:00:00 when I killed the Garmin at the hotel lobby. That is it for me. Judy, will wave hello to you when we land in DFW and switch planes this afternoon.

Great day everyone...... TdC.

Managed to do 8 laps = 11,2km rollerblading after therapy today. It was more windy then yesterday and heavy clouds and chilly - well at least the lane was quite empty.

Feel all aching now and I did my stretching yesterday. Must be the 6 h in therapy today.

Piotr - Great job on the rollerblading -- probably should stretch a bit more I can't imagine 6 hours in therapy... whew! Strength and stamina to you as you delve into all that...

R4R - will google more stretching exercises. I seem to have forgotten all but a few simple ones.

Today was hard sitting through therapy. I remember that after the second week it gets better - my body addapted to the not so comfortable chair and during the breaks while most everyone smokes I go for mini-walks.

I like rollerblading. Only did it once this year, but did it a few times last year. Think it's pretty relaxing but a good work out.

I've been reading all your posts, just haven't been posting myself. Thanks for all the well wishes. Started feeling better Friday, was just still pretty fatigued.

Today I got to the gym. Think we jogged bout a mile then did a bunch of squats into presses and pull ups.

Then I went to my truck. Put my bag in the back, closed the door and my window fell into the door (didn't break, just fell down into the door). So I dropped off my truck at the shop and walked about a mile home. It is hot and I am beat. Haven't yet heard how much this will cost me. I may need to up the dues a bit for KA though.
