"MGF, I keep visualizing a growing morning crowd with you at the National Gallery until HIT becomes a national craze !?! "

I like this image...like a Flash Mob

Murray, good to have you back and I am jealous of your being able to walk barefoot....although their is the flip side of me that things how dirty your feet will get...I'm getting flashes of hobbit feet

My knee feels better today already.

Any and all suggestions about things I can do in the 2 weeks off are welcome...keep in mind that I have given up my gym membership, have no equipment and the Sound is too cold to swim in for awhile still

Random question: Anyone hear anything about the health benefits of coconut oil?

Coconut oil is great for you and is one of the best things you can cook in. In addition to having Omega 3 fats, it also has properties that help stomach and intestine linings. I'm aware of people that eat it raw every day just to get some good fat. It is not easy to find, but I ordered some off of Amazon. I love cooking things in it, especially shrimp.

I had my session this morning. My diet troubles are really starting to affect my workouts. My energy level has been blah. I am pretty much broke right now and can't go grocery shopping, so I just have to eat whatever is already around the house. Which is plenty, don't get me wrong, it just isn't the right stuff.

uncle-- interesting breakdown of the RPE. I had heard of it before, but perhaps I was familiar with a modified version. 1 - 10 rather than 6 - 20. It makes sense though.

Hey all!

That virus on my computer freakin sucked! Spent hours last night tryin to fix it. It wouldn't let me access the internet so I had to download stuff to a thumb drive from a different computer, then upload it to mine. I ended up loading several programs onto my computer. Seems to have work, and I deleted a lot form my computer, which hopefully included the bad stuff.

Tom, been a while since I backed up my computer. Do you all use cd's to back up your computer, or thumb drives? Does it matter?

I'm pretty excited about my work out today. I haven't done actual hand stand push ups since my surgery in early Feb (if I remember right). Tried a couple times and they were just to hard on my shoulders, plus didn't have the strength. This was due to fat gain and muscle loss. So I worked on them on the Totalbody doin high reps and / or harder resistance.

Well today did the actual hand stand push ups. Did 30 of them in multiple sets, so I'm pretty pumped. Also did 10 ok pull ups and 10 not so good dips, but didn't set my feet down between reps (not very good range of motion though). Also did 200 squats, 40 lunges (jumping and also with a medicine ball), some exercises on the Totalbody and bridges.

Hope everyone is well!

Ghostly...consider cloud computing...it removes the need to back up your computer...I love it.

DB...I hear you on the food....going forward buy good stuff okay...if you do it I will too I caved today and had a piece of lemon vanilla bundt cake from the bakery...not good! If you check out my thread about asking for prayers I've gotten some great suggestions on inexpensive healthy food. Its helped me since I have very expensive taste when. It comes to groceries.

I tried several cloud computing programs but the graphics programs that I need for my work are not very functional. I back up my work every time I finish a task AND at the end of the day into several 16G mem sticks. Then ounce every couple of weeks I burn a DVD for safe keeping (keep it at home) and 3 or 4 time a year I bak into an external drive. When I spend 20 to 30 hours on a project, I don't want to have to do it a second time. I have learned the hard way.

Got my 4 mile hill climb this morning on my New Balances. Not very animated today, but ended up climbing a steeper hill that I do regularly just for the fun of it. Just trying to save my legs for this weekends cycling. Got to do something physical every day in my book.

Any one has any BIG plans for Easter?

Well, this will be the first year that I will play SOBER Easter bunny. I didn't ever dress up, but I have been in charge of hiding the eggs for my niece and nephew the past 2 or 3 years. I enjoyed it, but mostly it was an escape from the lull of sitting around the table at the end of the meal. I'd finish, get up, sneak a few more drinks, and hide eggs while everyone else was still sitting around. I'm not very good at sitting still sometimes.

Did my 5 mile walk tonight...beautiful evening...it was so clear we could see the Manhattan skyline 36 miles down the coast. When I had to jog across the post road to miss the cars going to Church my knee felt really good and I thought maybe I should run just a little bit...duh....no, no, no! We did walk briskly though...I walk much faster than the norm...its all that NYC blood...my dad who is 100% new Yorker still walks faster than anyone I know and he is over 70!

Mgf...I was thinking of your stairs today when I was going up the stairs at Grand Central and my knees were creaking

Random follow up...I am taking the coconut oil (2 tbsps) a day starting yesterday...so its new but I noticed a big upswing in energy and clarity today...enough so that I got a smidge worried (I used to use alcohol to chill...I used to be a very high energy person up until the last 2 years of drinking). Its all good just set off my radar

Will keep you informed.

Happy Good Friday all!
Did a 70 min cardio workout last night 45 min eliptical and 25 min treadmill and felt great! Afterwards I was out walking the Peach and chatted with a neighbor who asked me "why do I workout so much" (insinuated new man? looking for a man?) after I told her that no there was no man and I wasn't interested in dating she asked "how do you stay so motivated to keep working out" and I don't think she really comprehended my answer...I work out primarily for mental health reasons, yes physically I feel better since I've started working out - I don't have as many aches and pains as I used to but the main reason is mental health...when I'm at the gym I think of nothing I just get into the exercise I'm doing and listen to whatever music is on and that "mind-wash" generally stays with me for the rest of the evening, I absolutely LOVE that about exercising!

I go grocery shopping Fridays after work and I'm going to look for the coconut oil, I'll try anything if it could help my stomach, is it sold with the other oils like vegetable/olive oils?

I'm hoping I get to see my grandkids for Easter but my daughter is being very distant from lately (she's very moody...wonder where she got that?.....) so not sure if that will happen.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

This place cracks me up! Good Morning, all!

I'm obviously missing something in my diet....my last 2 long runs have found me with a gut ache and worse. This has never happened to me before. Must be all the 'wet' food, my system isn't used to it.

Judy, I hear you. Just last night I had a walker stop me and ask what I was training for. I answered, 'my health'. People just don't get the allure, and it's their loss, I guess.

Francis, enjoy that running group. I think that would be great!

15 miles for me last night. Bad weather moving in and I wanted to get outside.

Okay, coconut oil. Does it taste like coconut? Yes?

Same here...... I love to just zone out. There is nothing greater than going out for a workout and get back to the real world and realized I just sprinted up and down four miles of hills or biked 20 and did not even feel it. Sets me up for the rest of the day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just a 2.5 mile beagle walk for me this morning. Just trying to do something physical without draining my energy for the back to back weekend long bike rides. Maybe I will hit the gym tonight.
Great good Friday to all.....
Wow, you all are so inspiring!
Coconut oil does taste like coconut, to me anyway. There is a stronger flavor to foods cooked in coconut oil than other oils. Not sure if it can be bought in a more subtle flavor. Other people may not think it is as strong. I recommend to just try it. So healthy and good.
I was told virgin coconut oil was the best and best tasting...it was with the other oils and its solid at room temp so looks like wax...kinda tastes like waxy suntan oil when you taste it by itself its also good for your hair and skin topically.
I also find exercise helps me balance my mind...plus everyone knows it releases endorphins. Going to try and get a good walk in before the rain
Ok, I am joining the "kicking asphalt" thread. I have been working out pretty hard for the last 4 months, I am doing the P90X workout about 5-6 days a week, I walk an averagre of 4-5 miles a day, but I kind of hit a plateau. Well my wife just bought me some heavier dumbbells for my birthday, and I added a fast paced mile to the end of my workout today. I haven't ran a full mile in a while, yet I am doing about 3 days of pretty hard aerobic cardio weekly. I ran my first one this morning in 6:20. When I was running miles consistently when I was a kid I was able to get in the low 5 minute range, so I am not sure whether I will try to match that or whether I should try to run further instead of faster. But anyways, I am on board with the running starting today....1 mile down.
Supercrew, you Gnarly Dude you! (My P90X CD's are languishing in a drawer mere feet away...one day...one day soon...maybe...).
I'm still in the "ease into running" phase and did a blistering 10 minute mile pace this morning, doing my 5km in 30 minutes. Slow and steady, and ramp it up later!
