I took out a squirrel on the way in this morning. Why, why did he jump into my path?

I feel for you. Or I feel for the squirrel. I did that for the first time (that I know of!) about a year ago and felt horrible. About two weeks ago I took out a turtle... I REALLY felt bad about that one. They are so cute and slow... and they stand no chance of jumping out of the way.

I killed it this morning. The workout, I mean. Lots of squats, jump-squats, jump-lunges, push-ups, pull-ups. Did the elliptical yesterday. It is sunny out today. Hopefully it stays that way. Too much rain lately.

Forgot to say congrats to Frances!

I need to get some sleep I am laughing at things that just aren't funny...
MG "taking out a squirrel" geez I thought I was hard up...
DB: "Killed it this morning" poor turtle...

oy... take out all the squirrels you can MG! I hate those little rodents "they are just rats with cuter outfits"; they have destroyed more of my birdfeeders than I care to mention and they run across my roof all night long I hate the lil b*stards!!!

Did an hour of cardio last night eliptical/TM will do 30 min tonight plus 30 min weight workout, I seem to slowly be gaining weight since I quit smoking so I should probably up my workout but I'm already going 5 times a week grrr I need to find something new and interesting to add to the gym routine

Ok.. a squirrel, I can understand... but DB, a turtle!! That one to my heart I do really like turtles though... they don't go anywhere unless they come out of their shells (just like me...)

Looks like I have some catching up to do!

Frances - Glad you did well on your first half!! My first one last year was the best so far...

TDC - Awesome pics! Makes me want to be there instead of dreary, wet and cold Ohio at the moment! You trained well - so, I'm glad it was a good ride for you

MGF - Sweet on the 8:45 pace... You're right though -- any distance type race is sometimes harder mentally than physically. But, what are shot blocs?? I tend to go for the GU - don't seem to have a problem with it.

Top - I eat 1 Cup of Oatmeal w/protein powder about 1 Hour or so before a 'long' run... of course my long runs are only up to 13 miles right now -- and coffee (acts as a natural laxative). Then I take a GU about an hour into the run and of course water. Night before I usually have some sort of pasta or something with carbs...
Cool that you have a goal of riding a century... I know you'll be able to do it!

Coffee -- 18 miles --- I'm not worthy! I feel like I should be bowing to you
Of course, I have done nothing the last few days... cold, wet and rain, rain and more rain here. Woke up this morning, intending on running and dang if it wasn't raining. I went back to bed and really didn't even want to get up for work... I was so disgusted. I think there will be a window tomorrow morning that I can fit a small one in.

Hi Everyone Else!

Have a wonderful evening, night or day

Hope you can get out there R4R. Weather has been cold in Midwest. I like turtles too. A few years ago there was a HUGE one crossing the street. A bunch of people were pulled over freakin out cuz they didn't know what to do. So I stopped and picked it up and everyone was yellin cuz they thought I was gounna get bit or scratched or somethin. I remembered how to pick them up from when I was a kid. From the top, on the sides, about 3/4 the way down from their head. Anyway...I moved it no problem. Kinda had to laugh at everyone that was freakin out.

Judy - I consider them tree rats. Think you're doin great. No reason not to break things up and try somethin new though.

Nice job this morning DB! Sounds like a great work out.

Got to the gym today. Did some squats with light weight for form. Then did rounds of jump roping, jumping pull ups, rows and kettle bell swings. Wow. Really kicked my A$$! These gym classes are really cool cuz I get pushed so much harder than when I'm alone. I won't be workin out the next couple days.

Hope everyone is well.

I once hit a rabbit on my bike, but he survived and limped off into the bushes. Same thing, there were 3 or 4 of them, I slowed down, and they flew in different directions and this one just cut in front of me. I felt really bad for the poor guy.

Thanks for that, but I'm kind of sad today. My son had a choice of 5 schools to go to and last night he chose Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. They threw the most scholarship money at him and he felt "honored" so he responded this morning with a big yes. Nothing wrong with Michigan, but I was trying to keep him within a 6 or 8 hour drive or a short hop on Southwest. Oh, well, I guess we will be "vacationing" in MI a couple of times per year so that we can see him.

Back to work.

Thanks for the votes of confidence, y'all.

Feel like I could go out for a 50 miler tomorrow !?!

MGF, .... Sometimes I wonder if a squirrel could make me crash ? They dodge around on the trails, but so far we've all been lucky. Roads are so much safer IMO

Really, ....do folks (runners) ever use some sort of rain gear ? I've never started a ride when it's cool and rainy; .....so i know how ya feel. Hope it clears soon.

Judy, .....you squirrel hater, you ...... LOL
My Nana would give the squirrels a run for their money stealing her pecans. Sweetest lady in the world, until she brought out the heavy artillery ( a little spring loaded Daisy that shot BB's slower than you could throw a rock )

I don't know if pelting those little guys helped, (ouch!) ... but it might've made her feel better watching 'm jump.

Oh, and Judy, ............................................don't sweat any temporary weight gain;

.....I've read it's only your body responding naturally by retaining more water than usual to alleviate the initial discomfort while the toxins are getting rinsed away . As long as you'll keep drinking plenty of water, it should help getting through that stage sooner.

Not much of a workout this am after work. Skylights were cleaner than they've been in 6 years from that roof work yesterday. Still need to pressure wash up there, ....I'll tie off, but it's one of those things I wouldn't try drinkin'. Used to size up every (home ) job, not by time,...... but numbers of beers. Is that a 7 or 12 beer job ?

Grateful all THAT madness is history.

Keep on kickin' , y'all.

Tom, ....feel for ya, man
I guess on the bright side, he may not be lured outside some months with all the beautiful weather !?

My daughter went to School in CO, then post work in NE, then her husband getting a PHD in MO. The great news is, they are only 8 hours away now outside Knoxeville . Like next door.

I'd be worried hitting a squirrel or rabbit while on a bike would cause an accident for the rider? If it hit just right? What do I know? The chances of hitting a squirrel while running are pretty slim.

Top: I didn't gauge jobs by the number of beers I would drink. I gauged how long I would be away from home before I could start drinking. Gave up doing a lot of things I should have done, so I could stay home and drink. And yep, so glad those days are done.

R4R: You take care of yourself, girl. Running will always be there....peace of mind is harder to come by.

Tom: The going out to fast is true for running as well. So easy to do....you've been tapering, you're ready to Rumble!

DB: Killer work outs Rock! Makes it worth everything!

Judy: Give your body some time. You're doing Great!

Weights and walking tonight.

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is well. Isn't it great being sober, fit and active and not wasting our lives away on alcohol and drugs? This youtube video reminds me that today is a beautiful day, but I just got to remember to see it.

YouTube - The Power of Words

Worked out tonight. Lats, shoulders, traps, arms, abs.

Warmed up on treadmill for 5 minutes. First minute was a brisk walk. The next minute a slow jog. The next three minutes was a fast jog.

Lat pulldowns, wide grip behind the neck: 160 lbs x 8 reps for 2 sets.

Shoulder presses: 70 lb dumbbells x 8 reps for 1 set.

Barbell shrugs: 315 x 5 reps for 1 set.

Barbell bicep curls: 115 x 5 reps. Then Tricep pushdowns: 140 x 5 reps.

Hammer curls: 50 lb dumbbells x 8 reps. Then tricep pushdowns again: 140 x 5 reps.

Abs. Stability ball crunches x 20 reps. Then hanging leg raises x 10 reps.

Stretched out whole body for 15 minutes.

Woodles (bye).

Are m&m's bad for breakfast??

I am trying to baby my foot so I can do my first 5K on Sunday. I did go to the gym yesterday, did 3 miles on the elliptical, and quit. Didn't want to go backwards with my foot. I felt horrible! I am not used to not being able to work out, but at least I did something. I decided that I am not going to the gym, maybe Friday for the elliptical again, but just want to make sure I can do this on Sunday.

I am worried tho, the last time I ran was Saturday, so I don't know how I will do on Sunday............................m&m's for breakfast, yep in a Funk!! Ugh.......

Too sweet for my taste. If you could peel of the chocolate and eat the peanuts by themselves...... DARK chocolate covered almonds, on the other hand, any time anywhere.

Early morning meeting today for me.... just a somewhat animated 4 mile walk at 5:30 AM as the sun was coming out.

Hope your foot gets better Jackie. You should be able to do a 5k easy, just pace yourself. Great day everyone.

Ohhhh Jackie.... well, I had a chocolate bunny for breakfast this last Saturday. So, M&M's are in -- in my book... at the moment Kind of fell of the 'sweets wagon' since I made my parents an Easter basket and just HAD to buy some extra --- then the candy went on sale... ugh!

Top - I don't use any raingear. I don't usually mind the rain... when it's not 40 degrees outside Oh well, supposed to be in the 60's next week. Crazy weather...

Didn't quite make it up to run this morning... but I did take my dog for a brisk walk for about a mile... least it's something. And I did get up about ten til 6. Tomorrow I'll try for 5:30 - but I won't make any promises on running

I've been doing that kind of thing a lot lately. I had some non-pareils (sp?) early the other morning. The dark chocolate things with white candy-balls on the tops? I think some people call them snowcaps?

tom-- I can only imagine how you feel about your son. Michigan is a long way away from you, but I have to say He had a lot of choices and scholarships offered to him, so he sounds like a really talented/intelligent young man. I bet you are very proud of him.

I didn't get to the gym today, but took Reina the hound-doggie for a nice walk, probably about a mile and a half or so. Not too long, but it wore her old butt out. I MIGHT get some cardio in later.

Found out about a full-time position in my field that is open. I have been doing part-time at 2 or 3 places over the past 6 years, so I am going to give it a shot!

Uncle: Yes, change your words, change your world. I have read that a couple of times lately. Looks like I need to pay attention. Thank you.

Jackie: M&M's are dairy, right? Good luck on your run. Just go have fun. Don't worry about it. Walk if you must. You're doing it!

Tom: I love to walk, but not at 5:30. Glad you got such a great start to your day!

R4R: And you got a walk too! Awesome! I seriously wouldn't push the running. You'll know when you're ready.

DB: A new adventure! Very best wishes flying your way! I hope it comes out just the way you need it to!

Ghostly: Hope your procedure was quickandeasy!

8 miles here. I threw in some intervals just to torture myself.

Have a Great Evening!

Good morning gang! I was in a committee meeting all day yesterday (I work for a non-profit and everything is ultimately run by committee...) and when I got out of there I had to drive a couple of the attendees to the airport and got home around 3:30 and decided to take a day off from the gym and enjoy the beautiful afternoon; cleaned up the yard and patios from latest storms and walked the Peach a few times. During Peaches' last walk I decided to try and "run" a little....didn't get too far I didn't want to freak out Peaches and I wasn't dressed right for running but for the few moments I 'ran' it felt good...until I stopped and I immediately felt pain in my lower back fortunetly it was gone by the time I woke up this morning but even though it's been 10 yrs since my back surgery I guess I still can't run....I may try again on the track at the school near me, I'd really like to at least jog again; my gym routine is getting old

Tom: Congrats to your son sorry he'll be so far away. Can't imagine a So Cal boy wanting to live in those Mi winters

Tops: LOL @ nanna and the squirrel! When I see a squirel attacking a bird firder I turn the hose on and chase them off that way, I used to throw rocks at them but I was afraid I'd have an injured 1 in the yard and I didnt want to have to clean it up

Coffee: LOL @ hit a squirrel while running funny visual

Jackie: I had M&Ms for breakfast lunch and dinner during my first year of sobriety they were my main "food source" I gained 25 pounds that year and wouldn't recommend it but M&Ms have always been the best comfort food to me. Hope your foot feels better

DB: Good luck with the job

Ok -- SO I actually got up at 5:40 (had to lay there and contemplate actually getting up for 10 minutes) I sucked down a cup of lukewarm coffee - got on my running gear and off I went.... into the wild blue sunrise! Yep actually got up and ran (mostly) 5 miles this morning I don't know WHY it's so much easier on a Saturday morning, than it is during the week, but I'm sure it will get easier... at least I hope it does....
I'm not actually starting my marathon training until the 22nd, so I'm just trying to slowly convert my body to running in the mornings...
Don't worry, Coffee - I'm taking it slow My goal though is to get up and out the door in 1/2 hour. I decided today that I really should eat a little something before and let my body wake up a bit before I head out. So, once I'm probably going to slowly back 5:30 to 5:00. My goal for tomorrow - when the alarm goes off at 5:30 to only let myself contemplate getting up until 5:35

DB - Hope the full-time job works out!

Judy - Can you fast-walk... may want to try that first before going into a jog. Might ease your back into it?? Took my dog 'Casper' for a walk at lunch... if I would run with him, he'd be dragging... literally... my poor, fat and happy bischon...

Judy: Will walking bother you?

R4R: Good girl getting those early morning miles. I so wish I had the discipline to do that!

GF: What an awesome ride you have! It sounds like you really appreciate it, which makes it even better.

Rest day here. Couldn't get to sleep last night, so I'm hoping to conk out early tonight.

Have a Great Thursday Evening!
